Are GMO foods safe?
I have some food in my pantry that I've only just realized says "PARTIALLY PRODUCED WITH GENETIC ENGINEERING".
It appears that that only started appearing very recently.
Is it okay for me to eat those foods or is it kike poison?

there is no significant data or testing that suggests gmo foods are unhealthy to humans.
(((It's safe dude, just eat it and stop being a pussy)))
yes. if we didn't have GMOs, you'd probably be going to be hungry regularly. it's all muh ebil science from green stoners
kek confirms
put it in your centrifuge and do an analysis of it user
there is no data period
Every food you've ever eaten has been genetically modified at some point. You ever eaten undomesticated wheat? Yeah, no one has, because it's shit.
If you go organic you might be able to squeeze out a few more hours of shitting yourself in a nursing home, but that's not likely since spending all of your tendies money on overpriced meme food will likely drain all of your savings
There is nothing wrong with GMO crops themselves, there is something wrong with what the companies behind them are doing. As usual idiot liberals see a problem, fail to understand it, and attack it in a way that ruins all reasonable discussion of the issue.
>soy
>means gmo'd to absorb more glyphosate
GMO could be good for you, but nobody is doing that as far as I know. Maybe those apples that don't brown will be the first.
Its true that there hasnt been any hard evidence to either side, mostly because it's still too early to really figure out the long term effects.
I also dont feel like being a lab rat for Hersey's. If you dont mind though... eat it up, champ.
Just remember you only have the one body and one chance to take care of it. Treat it with respect.
>What are apples
>What are bananas
>What is corn
all produced with genetic engineering. All not natural.
nothing wrong with GMOs, EVERYTHING wrong with Monsanto etc.
just avoid shit like that... also avoid flouride..
You probably already consumed Gmos in your lifetime without knowing. Stop being paranoid user.
Life fast, die fat. 'Murica.
Genetically modifying and selective breeding arent two of the same.
Quit with your Bill Nye Neil Degrasse shit.
Genetically modified to grow taller, not fucking poison insects.
GMO really for these purposes only describes seven foods, two of which, corn and soy, are unlabeled and omnipresent. GMO-free corn and soy is rare and will be marked as such as an advertising bonus.
*All produced with artificial selection, which is still a natural process.
Saw this shit on a bag of Doritos the other day.
Ruined one of my favorite snacks.
Exactly.
You are the guinea pig.
This is the experiment.
GOOD LUCK EVERYBODY!!!
When you selectively breed a plant, you modify it genetically.
OP didn't make that distinction. I answered his question. You moved the goalposts.
You cannot genetically alter a plant to make it perform an action it could not previously do.
Organic non-GMO food is a trick to make people who are scared of science pay more.
Heh, that's actually the specific food that prompted me to make this thread (and certain juices and pasta bags too).
who but a bot speaks like that?
The act of genetic modification itself isn't bad.
And with it, we've produced many times the food we normally would have, keeping a ton of people alive.
Unfortunately, there are certain crops we've modified in certain ways - such as soybeans and cotton (for cottonseed oil) - that seem to be producing cancer at a statistically higher rate in cows or lab rats... according to the food safety agencies of places like France and Russia. The FDA has declared these specific products to be well tested and safe... but the FDA is commonly headed by former and future lobbyists/lawyers/executives for the companies that produce these crops.
So it's hard to say.
The technology is good, and we're doing good things with it. It also presents the potential for fucking ourselves over, and it's hard to know who to trust among the "experts".
I personally don't buy soy products unless they're GMO free, and I don't buy cottonseed oil products at all. If I'm looking at food that is not much more expensive for the GMO-free version, I'll get that. Other than that, I don't bother, since it can cost a lot of money and may not help, plus I'm sure I'm killing myself in a hundred other ways by living in modern society.
I'm sorry I must have missed the part in biology where they spliced wolf and scorpion dna to make dogs thousands of years ago.
>Every food you've ever eaten has been genetically modified at some point.
You can cross strains of wheat for ten trillion years and you'll never get wheat with salamander genes.
It's not the fucking same thing and I would PERSONALLY buy you GMO food to eat and sit and watch you eat it.
Keep telling yourself that, bub.
OP's mind will be officially blown when he leans that even seedless watermelon has been "genetically engineered" just by breeding selectively to create something that no longer bears seeds for reproduction.
Pretty vague goalposts, imho.
>muh cancer
is a deliberate scientific fallacy for research shekels and is only triggered by force-feeding an animal a billion times normal exposure to see what happens... and even then it's only a few percent increase over the baseline.
Take literally any food, feed one of those (genetically modified) rats a thousand times their own body weight, and some of them will still get cancer.
>people think genetically-modifying food means splicing the genes with animals or other stupid shit
i fucking hate this meme.
That peach you ate this summer? Pic related is what it looked like 6 thousand years ago. EVERYTHING YOU FUCKING EAT TODAY IS GENETICALLY MODIFIED.
There is no such thing as "organic". Anything that is farmed has been altered by human intervention.
Eat it you pussy
BS argument.
Yes, selective breeding is technically genetic modification.
We're talking about inserting foreign genes, often from completely unrelated species. It's hard to know how every modification is going to turn out. We've been mostly fortunate so far, but it is reasonable that this could be done in a way that negatively affects the environment or our health. We are essentially making our native plants into invasive species, and ingesting protein structures that we've never encountered before.
And you know people are not referring to selective breeding when talking about GMOs, so fuck off.
The companies involved with GMO's have a lot of money to throw around to make sure GMO's sell and they make a return on their investments.
There will never be "acceptable evidence" proving GMO's are harmful, for the simple fact that corporations now rule our courts and governing agencies. Take a look at the recent revelations about sugar research - 60 years ago the industry colluded to publish fake results in prestigious journals and maneuvered the scientists involved into regulatory body political positions.
All so that they could dump more sugar into food and make money; health consequences be fucking damned.
The Tobacco companies lied about the health impact of cigarettes.
Alcohol and painkiller companies are actively lobbying to shutdown marijuana legalization.
At no point does health impact matter. Only money matters. And money can get you all the """research""" and political appointments you need to verify your poison is actually safe for consumption. The FDA is now a useless organization for protecting the health of americans.
People are waking up to the bullshit and are avoiding GMO and other foods - not because there is an outright causal link between them and debilitating health issues, but because the massive corruption of our governments and the incessant lobbying and marketing to push this shit on us whether we want it or not.
I won't eat GMO foods if I can help it. I'm not even a health nut; you have to be fucking insane to eat the processed garbage you find in local supermarkets these days - even the fucking fruits and vegetables are tasteless garbage now.
>spliced wolf and scorpion dna
At least come up with something possible.
>you'll never get wheat with salamander genes
Of course not, because that's not possible. You don't have to splice shit with animal DNA to make it a GMO. You just have to genetically modify it, like cross-breeding, for instance.
It's not hard to see a difference between selection and genetic manipulation
Stop playing the idiot
You are fucking retarded.I'm not gonna even try anymore.
You're fucking stupid
there is not a single crop on earth that isnt genetically modified.
Perhaps with the lab rats, but the problem with cows and cotton was discovered when farm cattle were discovered to be drastically increasing in rates and sizes of tumors, well before they were experimented on lab style.
Of course, that could still mean nothing. It's why I said it's hard to know. It's mostly something I don't worry about.
Why are you guys here? You'd be much better off in an anti-GMO echo chamber like Reddit. May I suggest the Jill Stein subreddit?
European cows evolved a few thousand years ago and begun producing A1 protein in their milk. Elsewhere cows even to this day aside from European cows produce A2 protein.
In most cases "genetic engineering" is just evolution. Things don't just magically change, the environment and conditions must change which sparks an evolution.
THERE IS NO GODDAMNED SCIENCE, YOU GODDAMNED RETARD.
THERE WAS NEVER A STUDY DONE ON HUMAN, YOU STUPID, STUPID, STUPID TWAT!!!
"SCIENCE" IS NOT JUST SOME MEANINGLESS WORD WITH NO CONCEPT OR IDEA ATTACHED TO IT THAT YOU CAN THROW AROUND IN ARGUMENTS TO MAGICALLY MAKE YOU RIGHT.
WHY IS ALWAYS THE MOST SCIENTIFICALLY ILLITERATE MOTHERFUCKERS WHO WON'T SHUT THE FUCK UP ABOUT SCIENCE????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
There is a difference between GMO and non-GMO food; else GMO wouldn't be done, you disingenuous shill
selective breeding != dna modification
GMO being unhealthy is a meme started by rich hippies
who needed to feel better about themselves
That they dont eat the same food as "pleb masses"
And it tastes the same as well
its all confirmation bias
Only argument against GMO is testing it so it doesn't invade and destroy nature
Organic food is literally made with natural shit and spreads cholera
youtube.com
Why do people freak out about this shit? If you don't like it then don't buy it.
Yeah one is more precise (manipulation in a lab) while the other is chaotic (cross breeding) and unpredictable
i thought seedless watermelons were GMO-created until just now after looking it up
wtf i hate GMOs now
Bullshit argument.
You know that when people are discussing GMOs, they are talking about the modern practice of inserting foreign genes into an organism's DNA, often from vastly different species. They are not talking about selective breeding - a completely different process - and you know it.
You might as well say that people who have children - sexually selecting a partner to modify their own genes in their offspring - are doing the same thing as inserting fish DNA into embryos.
The concern is the splicing together genes from animal, bacteria or other plants, particularly those the insecticidal/fungicidal attributes.
fucking tool
>he fell for the organic jew
Where the fuck did you come from and how come you're not mentally retarded like all the rest?
Why?
It's safe for humans.
However they didn't bother to test for the rest of the ecosystem.
GMOs are the main suspect behind mass extinction of bees. Not to mention the nightmare of gene copyright.
its all a fucking meme. Crops have been genetically modified since the beginning of time. You think because some retarded hippy thinks ugly ass tomatoes grown in his garden are "organic" and non-GMO it's magically true?
Yeah, and one has to actually survive under real world conditions, has done so for millions of years already, and is provably safe for consumption, and the other is made in a lab with fingers crossed that it doesn't accidentally make a fucking poison because you threw in genes from a bacterial germ line you think might increase crop yields by 3%.
I'm not against GMO's, but I won't eat them.
I want choice, so I can continue making that decision.
You are welcome to eat them all you want. I don't give a fuck about you.
>is
data is plural you nigger
>go with the GMO beats
>WOW GIVING MY CHILD MUTATED FOOD, WOW I CANT EVEN
>go with the no GMO beats
>WOW LOOK AT HOW MANY CHEMICALS ARE DUMPED ON OUR FOOD, STOP POISONING OUR CHILDREN
There's no winning in either case. People will bitch about every little thing.
Here are some mathematical analysis on how GMOs don't account for systemic risk and why "curing hunger" is not an argument.
GMOs are not inherently bad. Plants such as corn and bananas are a result of artificial selection by humans, no different than breeding dogs.
Modern genetics simply speeds things up by directly modifying the genes rather than waiting for random mutations and cross breeding.
The biggest problem with GMO food is not the safety or nutrition, it's the fact that corporations can patent seeds and force farmers into buying seeds and pesticides from them.
But there is nothing inherently different about the methods. You can use selective breeding to create new strains with negative traits. Nobody fucking does that because it's pointless. The same is true with your definition of "GMOs".
Regardless of this. Even IF (which I don't believe it is) inserting foreign genes can cause health issues, that doesn't mean that it always will, or that the science won't reach a point where it does. The Anti-GMO crowd would have you believe that the practice is inherently evil and has absolutely no positive value whatsoever. That is the kind of luddite nonsense that will never hold up over the course of time.
You're a useful idiot for corporations that doesn't give two flying fucks about how healthy the food they produce is.
They want yields, and then they want it to sell.
They don't care about making food healthy; so long as you don't die on contact it's good to go.
All they care about producing a lot of it cheaply, and making it as addictive as possible.
But what are the side effects of the starvation of insects?
>But there is nothing inherently different about the methods.
Yes there are, or else they'd just continue selective breeding; are you fucking retarded?
really gets those neurons firing
>two flying fucks about how healthy the food they produce is
because killing your customers off is a viable business strategy!
This user has it.
GMOs are stupid because there's just no reason for them. With proper, complementary farming methods you can grow plenty of fine produce without it. Large scale corporate farming is the actual problem, and GMOs only enable it further which is akin to the buildup of the housing bubble. Eventually we are going to have dead soil with no more potash to dig out of the ground....then what?
Eliminating the present farming practice would actually create both better, tastier produce as well as jobs and entrepreneurial opportunities. This is an example of inefficient processes (needing more people and locations producing something) is a good thing.
You think they care? There's a million niggers reproducing daily in Africa, set and ready to demographically replace whites across Europe, and breeding fast enough that it doesn't matter if they die at the age of 30.
>1 post by this ID
>attacking the messenger, not the subject
>multiple other 1 post by this ID shills in the thread with the same kind of propaganda being posted
You can't get more obvious.
Just like how some companies are totally looking after our health by charging out of the ass for their organic products.
Like you said, nobody cares about health, just profits. One side will lobby GMOs being safe and profit from their cheapness, the other will use scare mongering to sell to the more concerned consumer.
>leafnoises
Fucking naturalists. I will never understand the notion that because something is "natural" it is inherently healthier. Your way of thinking leads us straight to primitivism.
>muh evil corporations
oh fuck off. Yeah seed patenting has a high barrier to entry and the level of competition is low. Will it always be this way? No. Companies like Monsanto can get away with less than stellar business practices because the technology required to design and patent a seed is still incredibly expensive. If you think this could last forever then you are a linear minded idiot that can't grasp how industry grows. Eventually, the barrier to entry lowers and the cost of technology decreases and the market open up. When that happens, companies like Monsanto have their "kodak" moment.
>i dont understand what inherently means
Monsanto is also in bed with the big pharma, so they could double the profit by making people sick. Allegedly.
Kikes want you spending your money on organic, gluten-free, soy based trash.
>monsanto is the only gmo manufacturer
seems paco is salty he might lose his farm work
Frankly, the ideal situation for me would be agricultural production done within cities.
Build a supermarket / hydro-aero-whatever-ponics farm hybrid. Grow the crops right where people live, in controlled environments where there's no actual worry about pests, and you can maximize yields while producing year-round without even needing a deep logistics footprint for distribution.
You eliminate the need for pesticides and preservatives in one fell-swoop.
THAT is the sustainable, efficient solution.
One side doesn't want us to even have the option of choice in this matter.
How the fuck you can support that, I really don't understand.
Brazier of the Lindy effect.
We have eaten organic for millions of years without issues, compare that to 20 years of genetic engineering to which we have never measured the consequences of.
I know plenty of people through family and such that have retired onto a plot of land and now raise organic crops and livestock as a hobby. None of them actually think organic is better. They just like the profit margin. Organic farmers see the organic-only crowd as stupid rubes. I go to visit them sometimes and they always feed me non-organic food from the grocery store. I ask them why they don't eat their own produce and they all say the same thing: "I wouldn't feed that crap to a guest, we use cow shit as fertilizer and the organic pesticides we use are very toxic if not cleaned properly."
We also didn't have 7 billion people living on the planet. We also had famines and crop disasters due to pests and other natural factors that we had no idea how to stop.
Quit pretending like there weren't major improvements that needed to be made in agriculture.
I want to buy a bunch of that shit and feed it to my girlfriend and turn her into cow.
Chocolate covered pretzels I just got from Costco have it printed on them
animals have been eating leafs for millions of years :DDDD
Agreed. Check out aquaponics if you haven't already, you can produce fish that way too.
I have a thriving farmers market in my small town. Prices are higher than supermarket but these people have viable businesses when they otherwise wouldn't, and more competition will lower those prices. Anyone who has tasted a farm tomato and a grocery store tomato side by side cannot deny that the supermarket tomato is a disgusting, flavorless immitation of food. Eggs are another great example. If the yolk is flat I won't even touch it.
I'm a fan of small plot rural farming and am building my own up year by year, but your idea is great too.
>farm tomato
>grocery store tomato
so grocery stores just magically conjure tomatoes out of thin air? The reason your supermarket tomato tastes like shit has nothing to do with how it was grown. It has everything to do with how it was stored. Months in a nitrogen cooler will do that to produce.
GMO and Genetic Engineering are 2 completely different things.
>One side doesn't want us to even have the option of choice in this matter.
I don't know how you Canadians roll, but there will always be a market for the GMO-free crowd. When there's a demand, there will be a supplier. People who work with organics market through fear and "all natural" sorts of tactics.
I just wanted to advice you that neither opposition is the good guy. Both are looking out for each other. This is equivalent to brand medicine and the generic ones you can find: just choose the one you prefer to deal with.
>Both are looking out for each other.
Correction: for themselves.
At this point, with cross pollination, and the fact that gmo food isn't all grown in hermetically sealed environments, all food is gmo food.
>Fucking naturalists. I will never understand the notion that because something is "natural" it is inherently healthier. Your way of thinking leads us straight to primitivism.
You'll never understand it, because you're willfully blind to every issue that is brought up, like the useful, fallacy spewing idiot you are.
The companies making and producing GMO's can and do bribe their way through regulatory bodies. Putting their pawns in positions of power to approve any move the company makes.
If there is ever a question of whether the food is safe to eat or not, a few bribes to the right """prestigious""" journal or scientist can immediately "disprove" it. And we don't find out until decades later, if we ever do - the results often simply being taken for granted after falsified peer review and never re-examined.
These companies are adamant about removing the choice of which and what kind of food customers purchase. It doesn't matter that I'm willing to pay more for "organic"; they don't want that option to even exist in the first place.
The difference between "organic" food and "non-organic" is completely arbitrary. The word doesn't even make sense in this context because organic just means carbon-based. Genetically modifying a tomato plant does not make it silicone based, so it is still organic. You liberal nuts have yet to provide even a reasonable theory as to what it is about modern genetic modification techniques that suddenly makes the produce toxic. We've been modifying the genetics of our produce through brute force means for thousands of years and now that we've perfected a more precise method suddenly you've decided we all need to go back to foraging for berries and living in mud huts to be healthy.
You can't patent hydroponic farms. :')
They are a much safer and economical solution. Open for all countries to use.
it's gonna give you gluten sensitivity and the obesity gene virus, but it makes The Juew higher prophets by making fatter yeilds and more healthcare costs so do
Putting together a hydroponic system isn’t cheap.
Constant supervision is required.
Hydroponic systems are vulnerable to power outages. In the event of a power outage that outlasts your generators you will be manually watering your garden.
Micro-organisms that are water-based can creep in rather easily.
Growing a hydroponic garden demands technical expertise.
Production is limited compared to field conditions
If a disease appears all plants in the container will be affected.
Without soil to serve as a buffer if the system fails plant death will occur rapidly.
