Sup Forums's thoughts of agnostics?
>agnostics
The only reasonable thing do be.
Stop wasting your time with bullshit you aren't able to conceive (by definition) in the first place. What do you expect?
I was a Mormon when I had my first girlfriend. She was an agnostic. She wasn't rude when we talked religion, in fact she had a broader knowledge of all sorts of religions and to her they were all fascinating. She was the reason why I left the church though, thank god
Glad Utopialand agrees.
Nobody "knows" anything about God or lack thereof. Knowledge =/= belief. There is no such thing as a "gnostic", therefore everyone is agnostic whether they admit it or not. Atheists can be agnostic too, you dope. Not mutually exclusive terms.
Further more, instead of asking about god, you might be better off to start asking about religion from a historic (and socio-economic) perspective. Why tend earlier gods to be tied to nature (and the many miracles of life), while things get more and more abstract, as time goes on? And pay attention to how religious stories evolve. What are they all about? Why?
They shouldn't exist.
No true faithful can say that a contrary opinion is allowed. Which is why every time somebody says "what about the atheist who does X and Y and Z?" the answer is still fuck no. If you allowed them you simply create a window for people to flock away from the religion.
Same way Trump says they ALL have to go back. "But wut about dem 10 year long hard working white presenting spics"
Fuck no.
They aren't bad from a diests point of view.
Go to bed, Lorgar.
socially submissive form of atheism.
they still reject magic teapots and other things outright, but if a large number of people believe in something, it just "feels wrong" to disagree firmly
Don't care. It has nothing to do with politics.
brilliant analysis except that there is such thing as a gnostic and it's the word that 'agnostic' is based on. it means "one who knows"
Lorgar was seduced by heresy and started the Horus problem which fucked the empire.
He's precisely one of those people that flocked to the window created by others.
more mummy?
>what is the purpose of living, and such.
Yes, and thereby, by defining the correct purpose and way of living, it became a brutal tool of oppression, or a "how to civilization". All of which, has all but shit to do with the concept of god.
To be fair, modern, revisied christianity is rather a basic "code civil" or "code moral" maybe.
They're spineless atheists, that's it
>socially submissive
There's a word for that. Hmmmm...
being agnostic is like being a confused kiddie that parent's taught him shit and it's trying to fit to the social standards eg faith
this, they just don't have balls to stand on their point
except the concept of agnosticism also entails situations whereunder a person believes you could not possibly comprehend whether or not there is some sort of entity superior to mankind and whether or not this or these entities care about mankind in the least, it is simply unattainable knowledge and has nothing to do with "god" or pre-existing religions
They're the moderates of religion, afraid of getting criticized for their beliefs so they take the "I'm not agreeing OR disagreeing with you" approach.
belief in anything is the death of intelligence.
How many fucking times do we have to do this? You can't be "just agnostic". You can be an agnostic atheist etc. but every single person in the world is either an atheist or a theist.
Do you really believe that?
>it just "feels wrong" to disagree firmly
No, agnostics simply refuse to discuss the topic, since it's a waste of time. Similarly any argument deduced from god is also categorically refused.
So a lot of people still believe in god or something. Well, shit. What do I care? Am I supposed to gonna change this or what?
Quad dubs,
And BTFO
lol good one
I believe in Zeus.
>nb4 the Zues "le doesn't real xD" meme
Nice try fedora, but you can't prove Zues doesn't exist
>No, agnostics simply refuse to discuss the topic
No they don't. Plenty of them discuss their opinion on the subject. Especially their belief that agnosticism is superior to atheism, even though they themselves are atheists.
This. Knowledge is a subset of belief.
Agnosticism and atheism are not mutually exclusive.
Atheism/Theism addresses belief. Agnosticism/gnosticism addresses what you know.
t. Agnostic deist.
>belief in anything
Not believing in god, or not believing at all, is not equivalent with a belief in anything. Not even close.
>Logic 101 is in this direction.
more honest and less annoying than atheists
still a bunch of fence sitters
As soon as one believes a doctrine of any sort, or assumes certitude, one stops thinking about that aspect of existence.
Making a claim that a creator does or does not exist (whether that's god, or an alien supercomputer, etc) with 100% certainty is the height of human arrogance. I take a "wait and see" attitude and see if it sways me one way or other. This topic at its very nature is unknowable to man kind in its current state, so taking a 100% stance on one side or the other is full retard mode. You wouldn't do that in any other circumstance where the issue is unknowable, so why do it for this?
>No they don't.
you're confused. They don't refuse the discussion we're having right now and here. No. But they do refuse a discussion about god. Big difference.
Mate I honestly don't know or pretend to. There could be nothing at the end or there could be a God. What does that make me? I'm not gonna pretend to know shit, so I'm not gonna be some athiest tart, and I'm not gonna wager on religions either since I dislike ideas in many of them.
Am I just non-committal? Am I a theist?
#REKT LOL!
I can play with words to make other look silly
WOOOOO
Look at me, I'm agnostic so I can call myself an atheist and be still accepted inside my cultural circle.
MADNESS
Thinking about one aspect of existence requires assumptions about the others.
Contrary to your principle: Certitude is the beginning of reason.
Yes you can, only a fool trapped by Aristotelian logic would assume that you must either believe or disbelieve.
Hey guys, agnostic here. I literally won't refuse any question you ask me.
This (and from an Aussi too; remarkable!).
i'm agnostic because i don't have faith. i believe in christian values mostly and i like the community aspect of church.
>you're confused. They don't refuse the discussion we're having right now and here. No. But they do refuse a discussion about god. Big difference.
I'm not, and they don't. Plenty of agnostics like to explore all kinds of religious ideas. That's the source of their agnosticism. They say they are torn between many beliefs.
>afraid of getting criticized for their beliefs
Only a child, or some one with the mentality of one would think that
The question is "Is there a God?"
The correct answer to that question is "I don't know. I don't have enough information to answer that question at this time. I can speculate, but I can't give a firm answer either way."
When you don't know the answer to a question you don't just go ahead, and say "No way that could happen. That sounds ridiculous" or the other "Yea it's def true. I know it's true because I want it to be!"
Being agnostic is the most rational, and logical decision. It means you're open minded, and not a fucking drone like most religious people, and militant atheists are. Fucking mongs.
99% of atheists are agnostic, they don't claim to know for sure that god doesn't exist, they just don't believe it does
What's it like to pilot an Evangelion?
>Plenty of agnostics...
>Idiots exist
What a surprise.
feels bad
Agnostics still lose Pascal's wager. Look, if you can't choose a stance that is optimal for your well-being then you are an irrational person that doesn't deserve to live.
Let's face it, most atheists aren't saying "There COULD be a god, but I don't believe there is."
Most of them are tipping their fedora and making flying spaghetti monster and unicorn analogies and saying "the idea of a magic sky man is RIDICULOUS!"
Someone had to fucking say it.
Anybody who says they know anything for sure is fucking lying.
>The question is "Is there a God?"
The other question is "do you worship a god?"
the correct answer is "yes" or "no"
i thought the mummyfag was a brit bong
Id consider myself an agnostic. I thnk all religions are mans weak attempts to find God, or what is truly Good. I think that there is a law of morality just as there is a law of gravitation and motion, Universal "Pillars" of Truth.
But you will lose such a dose of fun and joy, oh boy!
That's flat out wrong.
A large portion of atheists will tell you "I don't believe in fairy tails"
Right. It's really not _that_ hard, now is it?
up the butt?
Pretty much this, its funny to watch the tribesmen here who cant handle people that play outside of their predefined game rules. But I guess that's the point of politics anyway.
Every atheist I've ever met has been an agnostic atheist. The 'atheists think they can disprove god' thing is a strawman pushed by Christians to make their ideological opposition look foolish.
"Agnostics" are disgusting normies who want to be noncontroversial above all else and I hope they all die.
There's no reason to believe something without proof. Even so if you ask then only very very few are going to say that they know for sure that god doesn't exist, so they are agnostic atheists
only if you love me
You don't understand how logic works do you?
In order to answer the question "Do you worship a God?" you first have to ask the question "What is God, and does it exist"
It's OK I don't think you're stupid. You're probably just 16.
Good post m8 (not memeing you)
there's more than one mummyfag
>Most of them are tipping their fedora and making flying spaghetti monster and unicorn analogies and saying "the idea of a magic sky man is RIDICULOUS!"
Which is indeed a rather narrowminded point of view. For all we know, we could be a simulation running on the gameboy of some shitty kid that doesnt know just yet that it will run out of batteries to power said gameboy any minute now...
>that discussion again
There's no point in talking to someone if you're going to use different "rules" for the meanings of words.
That's called equivocation.... Deception.... Or nonsense.
my mummy could never be a chestlet
generally good, but taken overboard sometimes
Scrolling fast and thought it was the Judge Dredd chick.
>Objectively better than athiests but still
That's the only way to describe agnostics, honestly. The "but still" part is really important.
keep talking to your imaginary friend then bucko
ok then tell me what disagreeing with deist and theist and disagreeing with atheist about god is called.
>ay lmao
Well yeah? That's why they are atheists. They don't believe in it. That's not the same as being 100% sure that it doesn't exist. Nobody can be 100% sure about parallel universes or unicorns either, only 99,999% sure. There is always doubt
I also think Christianity is the best religion, and I will raise my family Christian
Everybody loses Pascal's Wager
Agnostic/gnostic answers the question of what you claim to know. Atheist/theist answers the question of what you actively believe.
For example: I'm an agnostic atheist. I don't believe in a god, but I don't claim to know that there isn't one, but if asked I just say atheist, since the belief is what people are asking.
In my experience, people who just say agnostic are just trying to avoid the social stigma associated with the term atheist.
Rules are not definitions of words. Rules are guidelines for gameplay, a 'rule' to many in this thread is that one must either believe in god or not, exclusively. There is no deception
>what is the scientific method
>vs.
>mmuuuhh religious feeels
It's on.
a heathen is a heathen is a heathen.
>In order to answer the question "Do you worship a God?" you first have to ask the question "What is God, and does it exist"
I guess you've never heard of pascal's wager. Agnostics may worship a god even if they're not sure if it exists. They may also not worship one.
Whether you worship a god or not is what determines whether you're an atheist or a theist.
There's social stigma to being an athiest now?
You're just playing with semantics now. We could be here all day/night saying "Atheists are very firm in saying they don't think a creator exists" vs "They don't BELIEVE in a creator, but don't think it's impossible". In my (anecdotal) experiences, the majority of atheists I've interacted with have a very firm stance that there is NO creator - not merely a "lack of belief, but there is a 0.001% chance there could be".
>Rules are guidelines for gameplay, a 'rule' to many in this thread is that one must either believe in god or not, exclusively.
That rule is called logic and it's an implicit fact given by the meaning of the word "believe"
>Bullshit bingo
play stupid games, win stupid prices. Hint: if you're not playing said game, then the assumption of eternal suffering is rather arbitrary, contrarily to what this stupid decision-tree suggests.
>still living in a true/false yes/no fantasy realm. Its no wonder you get so flustered.
Fence sitting. Intellectual dishonesty. Lack of understanding of the difference between knowledge and belief. Autism?
So then why even label yourself an atheist in the first place, when you're obviously agnostic?
THIS, this. A thousand times, this.
I.. can't.. say it any better than this user did. It's like he put exactly what I want to say, into words.
a sect (or cult) is a sect is a sect
Are you suggesting that an agnostic may not worship a god?
Or are you just being a deflecting faggot?
Have you ever heard (or used) the term 'fedora'?
Too stupid to think about the existence of God so they instead proxy it off onto thinking about the possibility of knowledge a human can grasp.
This.
It's sad how people who claim to be logical vehemently deny correct word definitions, as we will see in just a moment.
Yep my original conclusion about you was correct
>can't into logic
No the subjectivism you are engaging is the death of intelligence
>"the idea of a magic sky man is RIDICULOUS!"
well said
Agnostic is what an atheist calls themselves when they want to sound better than everyone.
The only question that matters:
"Are you willing to RISK going to hell by not believing a God?"
As it stands, agnostics and atheists are on a one way street to eternal suffering.
At least theists have a >0% chance of not.
Never encountered one IRL, I have a bigger issue with Melbourne hipsters.
