Has anyone else looked at the data?

Has anyone else looked at the data?

Does anyone else get hysterical sometimes at the massive shitstorm the world is about to go through? People talk a lot about their countries and their problems and how hard life is, but we are approaching a massive series of failed states due to climate change, a huge loss of agricultural output, and just all sorts of shit.

There is a very, very real. Non hyperbolic chance. That humankind actually failed. We actually reacted too late, and killed the planet and ourselves. It's not some kind of joke or conspiracy. We had industrial revolutions, we PUMPED carbon into the atmpsphere, and it may be too late and we won't die of old age.

Jesus fuck it puts a lot of things in perspective but how is everyone not screaming about this all the time? How is this not the accepted work of this generation to try and ameliorate this?

Nice scientific graph m8.
SAGE

There is literally nothing we can do when countries like China will just ignore any mandate to stop or lower their emissions.

Either way, this graph of yours very clearly fails to display the massive amount of time that has passed since the beginning of the industrial revolution. You didn't even provide a fucking source.

In other words, you got a hand drawn picture of 'emissions' increasing over the span of the past hundred years, all the while ignoring events in the past in which the planet was consumed with CO2, before falling back to O2, only to repeat again and again.

If it is cyclical (as every bit of geological history implies), then shit will hit the fan no matter what we do.

Go to XKCD for the full graph.

It's literally a hand drawn graph. I know I sort of asked you for the source, the graph is still incredibly shitty. Why of all fucking things would you decide to use a hand drawn graph?

Because it accurately illustrates previous trends and patterns in the data. And the current path as well.

China have literally banned opening new coal mines, bloomberg.com/news/articles/2015-12-30/china-to-suspend-new-coal-mine-approvals-amid-pollution-fight and now they're considering banning coal power stations too.
fuck off with this "literally nothing we can do cos China" line.
And the US is still the biggest emitter in the world. There's a fucking LOT you can do you FUCK stick,

>Yes goym, stop using oil, instead use shekeltech(tm) producs for maximum eco friendliness

Also, since I got so mad I had to reply after your first line, maybe check out the rest of the graph. It begins 20,000 years ago.

>implying there isn't an obvious profit motive from oil companies to deny global warming
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ExxonMobil_climate_change_controversy
It is so extensively documented. Check out the Koch bros while you're at it,

Hello, straya.

How are you doing today, friend?

I'm still thinking that data previous to 1900 is based on estimated interpolations. Trends as current day's may have happened before, but in a short interval of time so nobody noticed.

Reminder that it's Rockefeller, Shell and the Arab millionaires who are most interested in you keeping using oil products; but solar panels also leave a huge carbon trail when manufactured.
Nuclear power is the near future. Geothermic power is the real future.

epin copypasta I made and keep posting in these threads because you dumb faggots can never come up with answers that aren't "hurr just google it m8 like a lot of scientists agree but never published their methodology or anything, they just agree so appeal to authority":

Prove it is:

A: happening (which I don't doubt)

B: can be directly linked to human actions like burning fossil fuels

C: post specifics, how the parts the humans are doing is actually significant. Like what percent is our fault.

D: post specifics, about just how fast "climate is changing" since "global warming" is no longer the meme term. I want real statistics like "we are getting X warmer every year and I will have to worry about it in Y years becuase Z happened and is devastating"

E: post specifics, about just why I should give two fucks if hipsters faggots have to move their shitty cities 2 miles inland while I pay for retarded infrastructure that would probably cost more

F: if all of that is all real and shit, why I would care if it's as tragic as the lefty faggots think, when they're all just destroying our countries and children's futures with mass immigration of mudslimes and taconiggers and increased socialism to support these subhumans

G: Explain how wind turbines that are complete and utter shit, cost more fossil fuels to build and transport and assemble and shit than they save over their lifetime and only work in wind, but not too much so you have to use tradition power sources anyway, how solar isn't complete shit that get ruined by dust and only works during the day, without clouds or fog or any retard with an umbrella is within 20 miles

H: Explain why we should be pouring billions of my taxpayer money into this when it is proven the private sector is many times more efficient than any government grant program or research fund. If a company makes and patents the next big innovation in energy, they will quite literally become one of the biggest companies in existence

>Water pollution
Hey retard, we're talking about the atmosphere here.

>w-we're talking only about this type of pollution! Water pollution isn't important!
It shows how much China pollutes buddy. How their regulations either aren't hard enough to prevent accidents, or that they aren't followed or enforced.

The only thing about it makes me reassured is that no matter what happens, I can kill myself and spare myself the pain in less than 20 seconds.

>And the US is still the biggest emitter in the world
China emits more than 1.5x as much emissions you retard.
And that doesn't even consider how fast they're growing. Over 80% of all global increases in carbon emissions are solely attributable to China.

China used more concrete between 2011 and 2013 than the US used in the entire 20th century. But please, tell me how the Us is still the problem

Water is the most abundant greenhouse gas in the atmosphere you retard

Ive seen your copy paste before and I addressed every single one of your points, including pointing out that Bangladesh going underwater would cause more Muslim refugees than any war in the Middle East ever could. I gave you my own copy paste of three posts worth of sources and you dismissed it.

So instead this time I'm going to tell you to fuck off and I'm going to bed.

Lool at the source, i think i saw it on xkcd. That graph is much bigger and xkcd usually post sources too.

0-5 someone pops on stage.
6-9 boring debate.

*poops

>We actually reacted too late, and killed the planet and ourselves.

Climatologists have never said that AGW would kill the planet and ourselves.

I guess OP doesn't believe in science.

Thanks for indulging me. Your sources were shit last time btw :®)

Scientists can't even decide if AGW even exists

I love how he said water pollution doesn't matter when you're talking about the atmosphere, but if he cares about global warming so much he'd know that water is the most abundant greenhouse gas there is.

Looks like the internet is killing the planet.

We have to send our hopes and dreams for fresh air to the creator, pray.

tbqh the chinese destroying themselves is a good thing

There is a source listed on xkcd.

But in general you have to realize the sources for temperature readings are different in each era. It doesn't show variance in temperatures because they don't have year-by-year readings like they do since the 1950s. Who knows what the variance was back then? Shit like sampling ice cores doesn't show variance, it smooths it all out into one reading.

That the thing that drives me crazy, people don't admit they don't know. Scientists can't because they won't get funded. Liberals can't because their egos are so wrapped up in it.

Thank God it is always "just a few years away."

>Short warming or cooling periods may be "smoothed out"
>decides not to smooth out the warming period we're in now

Wow, really made me think.

>implying your country doesnt ignore them

oh look, it's a reprinting of Michael Mann's fraud which erases the previous warm periods and little ice ages.

>There's a fucking LOT you can do you FUCK stick,

ok lemme just walk on over to obama's house and ask him to tell the mean corporations to stop polluting

No one here can actually do anything meaningful.

I don't fucking get people here who deny mankind's impact on the atmosphere. They're on par with evolution deniers.

Why do you deny the enormous benefit of rising Carbon Dioxide which fertilizes the earth's vegetation and is shrinking deserts?

bruh, it's not that, it's just saying that people pretend to know how much its affecting it and what will be the results.

And, what economic sacrifices are justified.

Because its science. Science makes reproducible experiments. How are you going to have a reproducible experiment with the planet?

Any models they use turn out to not be predictive. Nothing reproducible, nothing predictive, just assertions and appeals to authority, and fear mongering.

Wasted trips on an idiotic piece of commentary.

get bent, you alarmist shit for brains

>tfw in the universe that they use pure electric they're having a global cooling and are urging countrys to use more green house gases or no crops will grow.

This whole fucking thing implys that the earth will never change

Fuck off

youtube.com/watch?v=Mc_4Z1oiXhY

Keep your head buried in the sand leaf. It's all you're good for.

Let me know when one of your climate priests ever get an alarmist prediction correct.

Until then, you are just some shit for brains that shills for grant whores and pal reviewers.

About 7 minutes in and I like this guy. Not sure if I'l lagree with all of what he has to say but this is definitely worth listening to. Thanks for posting it.

Raising CO2 from 0.035% to 0.04% of the atmosphere seems a small piece of what effects climate. The sun, that giant nuclear reactor in the sky that is so bright you will burn your eyes looking at it may have something to do with it...

Another study of the sun affecting climate

I've worked in horticulture since 1999 and one of the thing done when growing plants is CO2 augmentation. I can clearly recall CO2 levels we measured back then ranging from 360-390ppm. There is some daily variation. Now a days it currently is ranging from 400-430 ppm. I have noticed a slight increase but for plants it is hardly noticeable. If you push CO2 up to 600-800 ppm the growth rate starts to accelerate noticeably. We have constant monitoring devices that use an infrared lazer and monitor real time. When I breath on the monitor my breath will spike the monitor to over 5000 ppm CO2. When you are in your house breathing inside it will spike the co2 in the room up to 800+ ppm. Levels around 5000 ppm are dangerous as you can pass out from the excess gas.

bc nobody believes that massive environmental change can happen like that. we are not prepared for that. The idea that the biosphere could just collapse. We wont do anything about it until its way too late and we are really feeling the hurt. zizek has explained this youtube.com/watch?v=j_K_79O21hk

>washes clothes in a polluted pond
Why?

Is the water underneath clear or something? The way it looks to me now, he's just making his clothes dirtier.

Global dimming.

When we stop all industrial activity, right now, we kill ourselves. Thank aerosols and sulphates for all this.

>Explain why we should be pouring billions of my taxpayer money into this when it is proven the private sector is many times more efficient than any government grant program or research fund
Because (and this does assume we're in a crisis situation) private companies are shit at dealing with externalities.
>If a company makes and patents the next big innovation in energy, they will quite literally become one of the biggest companies in existence
This varies severely. If they can make cheaper energy, sure, but maybe we can't have cheaper energy if we don't want to set the world on fire.

War and Climate emergency run into similar problems when they interact with the market, but climate is a worse situation since it's not limited to national borders.

During war, for example, the demand for food remains high. If you leave the market to it's devices, rich people will continue to eat excessively while valuable workers may starve. The market may continue dedicating resources to luxury cars when the nation requires tanks. One may find that electricity needs to be turned off at night to hide cities from bombers (okay not so much in modern times but the point remains.) even if they want to sleep with the light on.

One finds themselves in a similar situation with climate change: Sacrifices may have to be made for the good of everyone, even if many with a far better ability to pay would prefer to continue to live luxurious lives. Your power bill may have to go up, that's the price of being able to have power at all. You may have to take the bus instead of continuing to drive a car. That's the price of being able to travel on anything more advanced than a horse.

The market is poor at adapting to these situations, and as such left alone risks an overrun into continuing to provide the cheap power people want instead of the expensive, efficient power people require.

War and war-like situations are where state intervention in the economy works at it's best.

Also, glacial geostatic rebound.

Watch it happen live!
youtube.com/watch?v=Mf9348pVVcM

Nice trips too.

Because corporate interests.
Mostly in china.

Also, the fluctuation since the 1800 might be one of the small fluctuations mentioned above.
Delete the lines into the future.

Because we haven't failed and we aren't going through anything that we won't be able to survive.

Good job falling for the fear salesman.

Too bad we cant make use of Nuclear energy thanks to the earthquakes

Well I'll let you guys pour your tax dollars into the research then, then reap the benefits after you've spent all that money to solve a "borderless problem". I want nothing to do with it and hope we stop subsidizing this shit soon. Global warming can't even be linked to us burning fossil fuels anyway.

You are the man who is eating the food that could have saved the factory worker who would have built the fighter jet that shot down the bomber that destroyed your house and killed you.

Congratulations.

Oh you mean how we've been safely using it for over 50 years? Yes, recent event have shown flaws, but new plants will be immeasurably safer.

I honestly don't give a shit anymore.

Can't be fixed because Americans will just keep ignoring it.

I'm okay with it. I'm not going to take a gamble like that with my money (food in this analogy) based upon a theory. You guys are free to though, since we're stupid murricans way behind in environmentalism. We're a lost cause and it is your duty as Europeans to take the helm in all this tax funded research to save the world.

Meanwhile our private companies will hopefully stop receiving subsidies and be required to fall back on good old capitalism to solve the issue, like it always does. I want no part in it.

Why is it our fucking job? You stupid faggots step up and solve it. Quit relying on big daddy America to solve all your problems.

It's not just a matter of research. If you're not prepared to make sacrifices then everyone suffers for it, particularly yourselves.

The market gives people what they want, not what they need.

The co2 meme never ends. Want to save the world?kys

>believes in evolution instead of creation
m8 I got some bad news for you

The CO2 level has been past 4000 ppm without biosphere collapse. Global temps have barely budged in 20 years despite CO2 emission not slowing down. Global warming projections massively overestimated the observed warming because they assumed a water vapor cooperative effect that didn't happen. Plotting temperature data against anthropogenic CO2 suggests, even if recent temperature rises are due to atmospheric composition, that this relationship is logrhythmic, not linear or above linear. Curiously, plotting pre-industrial CO2 against global temps suggests heat causes natural atmospheric CO2 to rise rather than the other way around. The mechanism for this is unknown.

But stop freaking out. We do need to cut down polution for the sake of toxicity and ozone layer stability. But the earth isn't going to become uninhabitable because the CO2 content of the atmosphere went from .02% to .04%.

America is so bad at environmentalism that's why we have the largest snd most diverse land reserves in the world and sustainsble forrestry practices have made it so that the US has more trees now than in its entire history. You tremendous fucking fag

You're kidding yourself if you think we won't burn up all the oil and coal we can, regardless of new technologies. That will happen, then the marker will begin to shift to any new technologies out there as fossil fuels become rarer and more expensive.

You should reread the post friend. I was talking, saying we're a lost cause so we might as well not even try. As in, everyone should stop trying to make us and they should fuck off. Speaking like what Europeans think of us.

I want you to know that you hurt my feelings too.

>then the marker will begin to shift to any new technologies out there as fossil fuels become rarer and more expensive.
Unless the market waited too long.

Using the current oil/coal economy to kickstart the post-oil economy is far better until waiting until a serious crisis situation.

Sorry I just get super buttmad when retards like OP who don't know what a spectrometer are act like they understand the greenhouse gas effect or its implications

Before you kiss, i just want to tell you that for all the achievements america did with environmentalist stuff, your industries are still sub par.
Those other achievements are things that other countries too are doing.

Except for fucking china, but they are evil anyway.

We already have the solution, nucular, but the fucking greenie weenies refuse to let us use or develop it

has anyone kept a tally on the refugee crisis to check whether...
refugees or chernobyl/ fukushima/ hiroshima & nagasaki are more lethal?

Nuclear is a good solution for most electrical generation stuff, definitely.

This is fucking driving me mad.
I was always boiling inside whenever i saw a "atomkraft nein danke" poster in germany.

>A runaway greenhouse effect is a process in which a net positive feedback between surface temperature and atmospheric opacity increases the strength of the greenhouse effect on a planet until its oceans boil away.[1][2] An example of this is believed to have happened in the early history of Venus. On the Earth, the IPCC states that "a 'runaway greenhouse effect'—analogous to [that of] Venus—appears to have virtually no chance of being induced by anthropogenic activities."[3]
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Runaway_greenhouse_effect

Your argument is a distraction from the immediate issues facing our society. If and when what you are discribing comes to pass, humans will either adapt to the changing enviroment (something we are quite good at doing) or we will go the way of the dodo.

It is is "climate change" not "climate destruction". We will adapt to go along with those changes. Some parts of the world will get worse and other parts will get better.

I can honest give zero fucks about pic related suffering from slight rise in global temperatures or sea level. It is their fault for letting short sighted developers waste billions of dollars on oceanfront properties.

This summer I grew grapes in my back yard and that would have been inconceivable even just 20 years ago. Within 50 years we are expecting up to a dozen new tree species will be able to thrive in my province where they would not have stood a chance just a few decades ago.

We see it with animals too. Gray squirrels and wood ticks never used to be able to survive here but they are spreading further and further north every year.

That all may sound selfish but I want to dispell the doomsday scenario and fear that comes with climate change. Eventually some coastal maps will be redrawn and building standards will improve. Life will go on.
