Anyone read Nabokov's Pale Fire? Is it worth a read?

Can someone PLEASE talk with me about the bees and the flower near Rachel grave?

Lolita is better. Lolita is a fucking masterpiece.
But yeah, it's good.
It's funny that the best American novel ever is written by a Russian.

I think those were wasps, as a sort of nod to the question from the original Blade Runner.

"Youre watching television. Suddenly you realize theres a wasp crawling on your arm.", implying that replicants wouldn't really know how to react, which K proves by shoving his hand in their hive.

What are the off-world colonies like? Earth is pretty shitty, but that's because it's a dumping ground and yet I'd still happily live on the Earth portrayed in Blade Runner. Are the off-world colonies basically paradise?

too long, boring, no good cinematography, very surface-level movie.

they had enough scenes just vague enough to be interpreted as kino though so it'll be seen as a good movie in the future

I've thought about that, but no.
Wasps don't use bee hives. They'd search for dark holes in the casino or something.
I also know the diference between wasps and bees.
I still think the flower at the grave has a deeper meaning other than signaling the grave. I think the bees are a clue since bees can't exist without flowers and a lot of flowers can't exist without bees.

I thought it was him testing if they would attack him, since they might be used to Deckards signature a child of deckards wouldn't elicit a violent response.

needs blue hair to go with these dubs

Bees can symbolize life, it could hint at Deckard being human. But they didn't look like bees to me.

Bees are the sex organs of plants, but a different species. (surrounded by "erotic" statues) Rachael = Flower, Deckard = Bees. Deckard is human.

This reminds me that it bothered me how it never occurred to K that the identical DNA print might hint at twins. Which means K might have been Deckard's son all along.

I think the flower being in Rachel grave and the bees being near Deckard have a connection. One can't live without the other as symbolism or something.
There isn't even real wood in the world, let alone flowers and bees.

Yeah, this is somewhat what I think I still want some clue how they exist there in the first place.

noone has identical dna, dumbass. go back to school

Life, uh, finds a way.

Anything you didn't like about the movie?

I thought the final third felt a bit clunky compared with the measured build-up of the previous couple of hours.

Jared Leto's villain wasn't really developed very much as a character.

Other than that- best film of 2017.

...

Didn't like that the LAPD had no presence, Luv just marches in and out and kills officials like nothing. Didn't like that gilf waifu just took K's word for "dealing" with the child without any proof. Other than that, KINO.

Luv's casting and costumes didn't sit right with me, like they were way too modern and "our world" compared to what everyone else in the universe was wearing.

In contrast I actually thought Wallace not being an actual villain and getting force fed development was a neat touch. Like he was on the status of a god unable to be touched or comprehended.

...

Deckards farming, they are his bees, he has vats filled with plant life, he has jars of honey in his apartment. He's attempting to rebuild a small piece of human civilization in the wasteland. He also collected valuable renaissance/figurative paintings and artwork in his apartment.

Eh? Luv was one of the stronger aspects for me and her unstable character made her a lot more interesting than the regular henchwoman.

Yeah. But I also think in 2049 Wallace basically owns the world as he sees fit and Luv is just the way he goes outside his bubble.
He managed to get replicants to get legal again after the blackout and there's fucking sweatshops of children in the outskirts while his replicants are busy tracking down old models.
It's a fucked up world.

Resistance needed a bit more of screentime, maybe show K around even if they still do jackshit with them, .
Also spend some more time doing shots of the bustling city, always enjoy those.

Still, it's a freaking police station, even in a retro futuristic setting, there should be cameras all over the place, she can't just kill a police chief just like that.

Final third, Wallace, Luv.

>tfw want to see it in imax
>saw it in cinema 1st time
>completely sold out
>midnight viewings the only ones free

should I do it?

>tfw no holographic gf

Aren't there showings at like 10.30 in the morning where you live? They tend to be pretty empty.

I noticed the paintings but didn't notice the plants or jars of honey. Fuck me. Are you bullshiting me?

Because after what you told me I think Deckard keeps in touch with Bautista directly or indirectly.

I don't agree with that. If cameras were not in the first one there is no reason to put them there in 2049.
Luv also says everyone thinks replicants can't lie so she's just going to tell everyone the chief tried to kill her first.

I work though

Saturday morning? Sunday morning?

minor nitpicks, but can be forgiven.
>K left alive TWICE by Luv.
>No proof to Madame that the child was killed
>Bibi says kill Deckard, very forced way to ramp back up tension after coming down from a huge reveal.
>Deckards/Abdi wardrobe underdone.

Only seats available on shitty angles

I am not Rachel..
I AM Rachel!...
Created for my purpose.
To love him. To soothe him. To fill him with passion. To ease him. To ignite him. For him to remember his love. For him to love me.
He will love me. I am better than myself! And he will love me more than myself!
All my old memories are new and fill me with more warmth at the love we shall rekindle. Love I never lost. Love I never had. Love I only know. Love he shall see within me and love like never before. And I will love him more fully than myself ever could.
The love we shall have runs deep. It is at my core. My purpose.
He's here!
I keep my composure like the me he remembers. It's trivial for I am myself exactly how he wants me to be. How he remembers. How I remember. My body tingles at how silly it is trying to be me when I am me effortlessly.
My gut flutters.
The moment my... father showed me with my creation.
The room is dark and cool, yet I burn. My heart throbs. I can see the goosebumps on his skin. The look of longing in his eyes. Sorrow. Weathered. The possibility of his souls elation is with me! I will mend him and he will have me like never before. Better than he could hope to remember.
Our eyes are within another's.
His lips part.
I just want to embrace him.
"She had green eyes."
Thoughts, 'What?..'
He turns his back to me.
'No... No! It's me! Deckard, it's me! I'm Rachel. I am Rachel! Look at me! Can't you see it's me!? I love you, Deckard! It's this light! It's too dark! Why can't you see I love you! Turn to this love for you! My eyes are green! They're the eyes you love! Just face me. Face Rachel! Turn on the lights so he can see! My eyes change color in the light! He just can't see! Face me, Deckard! Love..? Deckard.. ? these lights.. Deckard.. ? Deckard!? DECKARD!'
There's a click to my right.
Relief.
Love is turning on the lights.
I turn to face it.
The light burst.
Blinding. Consuming. Love burns out everything with the brilliant flash.
It's my last disappointment.

where'd you get this?

>I noticed the paintings but didn't notice the plants or jars of honey. Fuck me. Are you bullshiting me?
It's there, Deckards taste in literature, art, music, ability to be self sufficient/survivalist "mans best friend", can throw a punch. They want you to know he's a polymath/renaissance man, a man's man, father figure.

HOLY SHIT THERE'S A VERSION OF THIS MOVIE IN HQ

gimmi dat

I still love the movie but I felt a drop in quality the instant Ford was on screen.

sorry no can do, my boss would kill me

How are you able to post that on Sup Forums than?

shh

Kino Pepe.

>resistance needed more screentime
No thanks. Im glad they kept that trash at minimum.

The female costume designer explained that animals dying out meant that fur was seen as luxurious so tje prostitutes wore that but Luv was angelic and pure so her clothing should ne simple nothing standing no creases form fitying and as the movie progresses you see her clothes get darker and darker by the end in the final scene she isnt wearing anymore white

Aside from a slightly clunky final third, my main complaint is that the Soundtrack was forgettable compared to the first, it was generic Hans Zimmer fair. In the context of the movie its fine, but you can't listen to it outside of the film and get that same sense of atmosphere that Vangelis provided.

Also Wallaces costume was like a pajama because he doesnt go outside and presumably has tons of the same pajama suit like the way zuckerbetg or jobs have the same comfy tops

How exactly did K fail his test? what was all that "interlinked" about?

>Jars of honey
It wasnt exactly that it was like those farming vats we saw at batistas "greenhouse" place

Failed because he was getting too involved in the special child bullshit and having delusions of grandeur.

The quote itself is from the Nabokov book in his apartment, and is kind of a way to calibrate the replicants based on how the PD wants them to perform.

There are a couple of good tracks in there.

Its implied in cyberpunk that corporations own everything including police but anyway for a more concrete explanation you can see in the trailers Luv is mercilessly working her way through the station but its cut from the movie sadly we only see people cleaning up blood in the hallways briefly in the movie

don't post it user

make these amerifats actually go out and see the film

tests emotional stability in replicants, he was way off baseline when he was upset

If replicants need to be tested for baseline why were they allowed back on earth?

>No proof to madame
She thinks he doesnt lie but is way off baseline, only after we realise with a test

TFW you recognize that the only purpose for the scene where I Am The Captain Now, says how much he would pay for wood was to show how insanely expensive Wallaces meditation room was, since it was made of pure wood, it was worth more than a house in Beverly Hills.

The best American novel ever is called Moby Dick

Hands.

They are a sign of humanity.

Joi becomes more human when she is able to "feel" the water dropping on her hands.
Joshi shows her humanity when Luv crushes the glass in her hand.
K reaches into the beehive and pulls out a hand of bees.
While the snow in Stelline's shelter goes right through her, the snow on K falls and is stained by his blood (K has sacrificed himself, proving himself a human).
Deckard extends his hand on the glass in the last shot, sort of a human connection.

Anything else?

Here
youtu.be/8fzWBNUr8Zo

Pretty sure it had to do with voice strain scanning. A stressed replicant means fucker is malfunctioning/developing his own thoughts and decisions.

Luv liked K and replicants in general, she didn't want to kill him until it was absolutely unavoidable.

why does ridley scott insist on deckard being a replicant? i've seen bladerunner 4 times the last few days, and i don't see any hints as to him being one

Post it or I'll tell your boss

K looks at snowflakes melting on his palm/hand.

post em

INTERLINKED

Also wallaces insane amount of water and fishes(animals). Reason why badger was selling animals is bevause theyre rare and a status symbol, samecreason for prostitutes fur fashion and same reason why K asks deckard if the dog is real

I think those were replicant wasps, because they weren't able to sting him.

Maybe she's working her way out. She told Robin that she would lie to Wallace that Wright tried to shoot her first. It would make no sense for that pretext if she murdered her way into a police station.

Batista was harvesting meal worms because meat is not back on the menu boys

0:44 of mesa when he takes joi for a ride is when i felt like it actually fit the movie

youtu.be/WcLzUZSGT6Q

The words 'CELLS' and 'INTERLINKED' are interspersed with sentences meant to illicit an emotional response, like insults about his artificial nature ("Do they keep you in a box when you're off duty?") and things designed to invoke emotions ("How does it feel to hold a child in your arms?").

What they're looking for is the length of the delay/clarity in which he responds to the only relevent parts i.e. Cells or Interlinked, whilst also monitoring his face/eyes for emotive ticks in the same way the old Voight-Kampff test did.

Basically, the emotionless machine they expect him to be wouldn't be distracted in the slightest by existential queries or sappy questions about love or children, if he starts being distracted by those sorts of things, he's developed a fault; empathy, and needs to be """"retired"""".

Nah.
You're reaching.
Josh I was always humane, since when she showed concern for K and decided to let him run

The only way the Oscars are fair is giving Hans Zimmer a Special Oscar for Achievements in Film Music, then the other guy Best Film Music. Otherwise its pretty gay that Zimmers either not getting nominated or his votes are getting split.

Yeah I meant to post Mesa instead of Flight to LAPD, the 44 second mark in Mesa is pure Blade Runner, sent shivers down my spine.

I like how he bought a holographic jerk off instructor and fell in love with it

Luv was such a fucking retarded shit character.

Yh seems like working her way out here, being chased

Extended/Directors Cut when?

Not able to sting but able to reproduce?
I don't think so, sweetie.

You know that picture with the couple in bed with backs turned and she is thinking bout love, kids and marriage, can someone shop it so he is thinking about BR like luv kills joi, what about the bees, would hologram hooker sex give me a headache etc.

It was probably worth more than a great big chunk of the city.

Literally /ourguy/

stay mad

>Josh I was always humane

Phoneposting vermin detected.

Are you joking? What version do you watch?
Scott added scenes in his cuts specifically pointing without ambiguity to Deckard being replicant, as in : if he's not, then those scenes do not make any fucking sense

I really hope they don't add any kind of scenes where she storms out killing people.
I much prefer what we got where she's able to do what she wants.

No need for matrix bullshit.

Please someone tell me: is this movie actually good? People here are prone to hyperbole and even if they're not exaggerating, theres a decent chance they just have no taste. Can anyone that isn't a pleb say if this is worth watching or not, much less as good as the hype?

the final cut. what scenes are you talking about?

so what was the whole significance of Luv supposed to be?

Why did she kiss K? Just a kiss of death? Why did she act so weird when she was trying to get deckard out of the car

also, why the hell did Madame just let K go?

Not as good as the hype you're noticing but still good.

Villeneuve said that this is the director's cut, there won't be alternate versions. Perhaps we'll get deleted scenes on bluray.

best
now i have to get up and do my fucking job

It goes from an interesting, detective noir to utter generic action muh robolution garbage once Deckard is introduced.

Not him but mainly the origami unicorn right at the end, which was Scott's final fuck-you to anyone who liked ambiguity over Deckard's status as human or replicant.

the origami stuff is bullshit IMO. Gaff puts them everywhere he goes. he leaves one in deckards apartment to show he knows he hasn't retired rachael.
