Because the goyest of goys went out and bought a ticket and Disney guaranteed that this would happen because they know that hype and marketing generates millions like nothing else, without needing to invest in the quality of the product. Every expositions and plot narrative in the film was carefully sent through dozens of corporate boardrooms before it was given the greenlight to make it was completely stale, unambitious and the safest thing imaginable for a Star Wars sequel while amping up the nostalgia factor
