What if knighthood as a concept was restored?
>train from youth in the physical and martial arts
>study and learn lots of worldly knowledge
>take honorable vows
>protect your community
How would modern day knighthood work?

How would modern day knighthood work?
> *dress up in knight's armor, welding a sword*
> "im going to protect you, m'lad-"
> gets killed by drone
Soldiers.
Knighthood was low tier nobility, not some kind of caste of protectors
Fucking police officers are closer to what you're envisioning
No no, not in a pure military sense.
As an organization of prestige and standards.
There isn't nearly enough crime in the US. Only places it would work would be in black communities, and it would end up getting coopted by moneyed nterests and turning into a cartel like the Knight's Templar did in Mexico.
I don't think knights were as prestigious as your fairy tales made them out to be.
I thought this is what Freemasons did?
I'm sure they weren't..
I'm just sick of the fall of peoples standards for themselves and their communities.. Maybe a structure of excellence would help?
Bingo
No. Trust fund kids are knights. They are provided for their whole life, but generally do not become ultra-wealthy. This is mostly due to the fact that they are able to live for self-improvement (like samurai or knights) and tend to fall into privileged hobbies like physical fitness, guns, and martial arts.
t. Trust fund kid.
Modern knights would have guns. The sword would just be a symbol and a ceremonial accessory (think how Navy and Marines have swords with their dress uniforms).
Knighthood is for when minor nobility has extra sons they don't need. So he makes him be a squire so he's not his problem.
How's middle school going?
I said police were closer to what he thought knights were. Not that police are like what knights actually were. But yeah, your comparison is apt
A knight’s a sword with a horse. The rest, the vows and the sacred oils and the lady’s favors, they’re silk ribbons tied around the sword. Maybe the sword’s prettier with silk ribbons tied round the sword. Maybe the sword’s prettier with ribbons hanging off it, but it will kill you just the same. Well, bugger your ribbons, and shove your swords up your arses. I’m the same as you. The only difference is, I don’t lie about what I am. So kill me, but don’t call me a murderer while you stand there telling each other your shit don’t stink
Police are the town watch. Spec ops would be knights.
>I said police were closer to what he thought knights were.
True enough, historybro.
...
Isn't the ideal of the Christian Western Knight that of a champion of justice and perseverance who follows the right faith no matter what; a "fighting monk", as it were? If so, Sup Forums ironically comes quite close, though we are arguably not the most chivalrous bunch.
A knight is a military protector of a lord's estate
In this way, the national guard is the modern equivalent of knighthood
In this age, the modern knight is closer to the Roman equestrian of late empire than any Navy SEAL or law enforcement official.
tldr: trust fund guy was right.
>American education
>my knife is illegal
You could argue that it's the security contractors, as knights bought their own equipment or were supplied by their lord. More like a private company than a national service. Their moral code of chivalry being the laws of armed conflict.
I meant the ideal, not the definiton. But it's a valid point I guess.
Ah, true. My mistake.
But that's just bc the economic order was a lot different back then (feudalism vs capitalism)
