Out of Placers Page #42

Started reading this after hearing about it on Sup Forums last month. Ive been waiting for an update so I can make a thread for once.

What do you think of it? I love the fantasy world, especially how it reminds me of morrowind. The TF stuff is fucking weird but its played straight enough that it doesnt bother me too much.

I see Lopin has traits for a bard.

>Morrowind

I hadn't thought of that before, but I can feel it. Probably all the weird races mixed with humans, and a vague Imperial thing going on, and lots of house politics.

As well as the swamp-y primordiality of the content, and the massive bugs.

>ywn comfort a emotionally fragile Lopin
>ywn take advantage of his vulnerability and smash that boipucci

Somehow, I just dont see Mike Stoklasa thinking that very often

>The TF stuff is fucking weird but its played straight enough that it doesnt bother me too much.

If by "played straight" you mean it is treated like a traumatic, uncomfortable experience and not fetish fuel, then yes I agree. I was much more worried about the protag switching genders and where that would go, but it seems like we dodged a bullet there.

>Lopin's in the uniform depot
>He's about to get a cute little uniform

don't forget the lost sci Fi race

is that happening?

If Yinglets can hear so well, why do they scream all the time?

Little something that's been bugging me: have we seen ANY human characters with eyes that aren't blue, green, or gold?

What if that's significant?

Well that's what I'm wondering as far as I can tell despite browns and hazels being the most common eye colours irl they just don't feature in the comic.
Come to think of it they're the most common colour due to dominant genetics so their absence would suggest a rather small and or modified initial human population on this world.

I imagine them like parrots. I was going to say they scream when they're happy but I remembered they scream for every single emotion they feel.
But yeah, screaming gets them worked up, which leads to more screaming. And if one screams, another starts screaming, and its a never ending cycle.

Anyone know what this guy did before OoP? I dont buy that this was his first webcomic, but I also dont want to ask it on the website if a hundred others already have.

I went back to skim for brown eyes, and found some on the first page. I think the prevalence of greens, blues and golds are more up to artist preference than anything else. Not to mention in a fantasy setting unusual eye pigmentation really isn't that weird a thing.

Skimming through his dA account, it looks like he various things and made a few pages of another comic that shares elements with OoP: valsalia.deviantart.com/gallery/3391211/Legendary-Legend-Old

Thanks for the link, enjoyed reading. Crazy to think this has been in the making for over 10 years though, considering its only been updating for a couple years.

Hey Val what do you think of Falka?

That wasnt Val. I highly doubt Val browses Sup Forums, unless hes been here before.

At very least he browses /trash/.

>That wasnt Val. I highly doubt Val browses Sup Forums, unless hes been here before.
He has, repeatedly. He shows up just about every thread.

I hope we get to hear more about Lopin soon.
I want to know why he became so fancy.

I wonder if they can be calmed down by a bag over their heads like a parrot.
>Yings in a screeching loop
>grab burlap sack, apply to head of one or more participants
>place the now statuesque yings on counter and go about your business

Or maybe via binder clip to the back of the neck like cats?

I wish I could hold Lopin on my lap and hug him and comfort him and tell him everything is gonna be alright and hug him and kiss him and love him and marry him.

He's so fancy and cute.

Gonna need a comic showing Lopin singing this song
youtube.com/watch?v=93lrosBEW-Q

Only with 'Shiny' replaced with 'fancy'

If you're going to wreck Lopin, at least wait until he looks like this

>Wanting a human.
Fucking disgusting.

>I highly doubt Val browses Sup Forums

>Wanting to wreck the Fancy Lad.
>Not wanting to love him tenderly and passionately in the context of an interspecies homosexual marriage

Disgusting

What would owning a Yinglet be like?

I'm sure a matriarch could be convinced to part with a baby Yinglet to be raised as a pet/child by a human family. They would be safe, well looked after, well fed, and educated after a certain age.

It'd be kinda like owning a dog that eventually learned to talk and do math and be useful.

It would be like owning another person.

A cute fluffy gay person.

>do math and be useful.

...

If you teach them, they will learn

Yings are only stupid because they're basically a bunch of unattended children. Look at Vizlet, she immersed herself in human culture and came out probably the most intelligent Yinglet in the world, because she was taught to be.

Imagine if you got one young and raised it to NOT be a complete idiot?

I hope they do that thing chickens do where they basically go limp if you hang them upside down from the ankles

Val confirmed that Morrowind was a big inspiration in a past thread. Something about how it opened his eyes re: fantasy & scifi not necessarily being different things.

i feel like it's tranny propaganda and the whole thing with male yinglets being biologically compatible and expected to fuck each other is a tad heavy handed but it's well done and has its own merits so i follow it

lopin is biologically female

gotta have a token FtM in a comic like this

FOR NOW

I find it hard to accuse the comic of propaganda when it portrays the MtF stuff as unnatural/unbelievable/undesirable.

Also there was solid plot reasoning for the gender swapping, it gives kass value in Yinglet society which keeps the story interesting.

It's pretty of cool for Val to have a Plague of Gripes cameo

Holy shit
>It's pretty of cool Val to have a Plague of Gripes cameo
wew
I need some water

Not nearly grumpy enough.
>deleting the wrong word
kek

yeah that's the well done part

I prefer the giant lizard people myself. Where do you think he is going with keeping the species hidden?

>Fancyness reaching critical levels!!!

People tell me about them, then I get curious and check 'em out, and I pretty much always find something fun to reply to. It's a nice system!

Actually, Legendary Legend was a brief attempt at reviving a little comic that me and a roommate tried in college, whereas this one was created over a few weeks, using a bigass grab bag of ideas I'd been compiling over the years.

A few of those ideas indeed got their start in LL though, some of the good ones that never came to fruition.

>>Yings in a screeching loop
>>grab burlap sack, apply to head of one or more participants
>>place the now statuesque yings on counter and go about your business
This is a great mental image.

Can't say I've read it, but the stuff that shows up on google Images looks pretty neat!

Someone brought it up last week in an Incal thread of all things. Whole thing's online, and there's only 5 books so it's quick reading.

If it was the real Plague he'd be fucking a Baxxid

IMPLIED to be fucking a Baxxid.

or maybe one of those things Isher is half of

I finally started reading this. I absolutely love Yaanit.

Please tell me she doesn't actually go insane.

mr-dna.deviantart.com/art/Epilogue-Life-with-Angie-655267593

I noticed that Val'Salia browses the same TF/TG artists that I do...

Since Mr.Dna does mental changes all the time, makes me wonder how far he'll go with it in his comic.

The leading theory is that she'll be fine because she considers the cast her hive now. Plus she's a little abnormal anyway.

Oh thank god. She's too adorable to be put down in a murder-rage.

...

Not so far.

And most of the females in the comic are adorable.

I'm worried about Yannit. i hope she's able to keep her sanity.

>makes me wonder how far he'll go with it in his comic.
I really hope he doesn't go for mindbreak/personality death, the fact that some people fetishize that stuff creeps me out.

There have already been hints of that, when Kass was at the enclave.

Mind altering hormones are a hell of a thing.

If Kass is smart, he'll find a way to maintain his mind despite his treacherous new body,

I'm really hoping that was just extreme sleep deprivation combined with hormones.

define mindbreak/personality death
to me it means something totally different to the kind of subtle changes he's been going through lately

Not that guy, but the way I usually see it in porn, the person has all shreds of their previous identity and personality removed. Being porn, that usually means they're obsessed with sex and more or less identify as little more than object.

In this case, I guess the fear is that Kass will end up losing all of his current personality and succumb to being a regular Ynglet. Possibly losing all of his memories as well.

>the fact that some people fetishize that stuff creeps me out.

Because I like seeing someone get completely changed into something else that has no semblance to their past life. Bonus points if reality was rewritten so that it was always that way now.

>mindbreak/personality death
As much as I like letting the readers think that anything can/might happen, this story's not gonna go that far; it's about people finding ways to adapt to tough situations, so that's the angle Kass' situation is going to take.

Plus, character development kinda self-destructs in the case of personality death/overwriting, so that's just not going to work for a lot of reasons.

...Or, y'know, everyone goes insane for their own individual reasons and it goes from funny to horrifying

>it goes from funny to horrifying
And this is why I'm glad to hear you won't be going that way.

>I guess the fear is that Kass will end up losing all of his current personality and succumb to being a regular Ynglet. Possibly losing all of his memories as well.
Yeah, nah, that's what I thought and I've seen no such implication. Personalities take years to develop, losing one entails becoming a damn zombie since you can't just pull a brand spanking new one fully-grown out of the aether. People let that kind of retarded writing slide in fetish smut since logic's not what they're there for, but Val puts way too much thought into his setting for such an asspull.
If he was undergoing some gradual metamorphosis over the course of several days/weeks/months I'd understand the paranoia. But Kass was completely yingletized in one swift instant, if he was gonna be wiped clean it would have happened as part of the transformation. He's had a differently shaped brain, an alien physiology and a kit of new hormones since then, all we've witnessed are realizations that could have happened at any time prior had the stimulus arisen.
I mean, that's not to say that he WON'T becoming a ravenous slutwhore broodmother, but if such transpired it'd be by his own conscious decision. Lemons out of lemonade, so to speak.

Yeah to me if the person's mind has died then it just seems like cleaner more active necrophilia/snuff.

Okay so yingfags

If Kass slowly lost his mind and became a fairly normal female yinglet, would it still be Kass?

What if a perfect copy of the old Kass, human and all, grew from the weird slime that came from the artifact. Which one is the real Kass? Is either of them the real Kass?

The problem is, you are making a distinction between "Real" and "Not-Real" Kass without defining a measure of "Reality". You gotta do that first.

okay
The reality is You Are Elim

Now what

I help them find out how this happened in the first place, but avoid pursuing a cure until I can be sure the trademaster wont have us killed over it.

what if the two Kass's do not tolerate one another?

If at all possible I would avoid conflict between the two, since from both their perspectives it would be a pretty terrible betrayal--but if I HAD to pick a side I would pick yinglet-kass, since that is the personality I have spent the most time with, and therefore have a stronger commitment to.

The argument could be made that the second kass is less "real" since it hasnt existed until now, but that line of thinking is shaky and I tried to avoid it.

>If Kass slowly lost his mind and became a fairly normal female yinglet, would it still be Kass?
"Lose his mind" in what way? Elaborate.
At most I can see him giving up hope on ever returning, letting go of any pretension of humanity and attempting to make the most out of his situation. But even if you hightail it there by saying he went mad with grief, he'd still need to BUILD a new self-image through extended exposure to Yinglet culture & customs. "Fairly normal female yinglet" isn't a prepackaged software, these things take time.

>I would pick yinglet-kass, since that is the personality I have spent the most time with
But the new Kass is everything you became friends with. He's the same guy who refused to leave you behind when you were deserting together.

The original Kass is barely anything left.

>But even if you hightail it there by saying he went mad with grief, he'd still need to BUILD a new self-image through extended exposure to Yinglet culture & customs. "Fairly normal female yinglet" isn't a prepackaged software, these things take time.
magic

btw in answer to the question yeah, it'd still be Kass. Just a Kass that developed according to his situation. Unless we're talking some quasiphilosophical ANAKIN DIED AND VADER KILLED HIM bullshit.

Asspull.
If it was gonna happen it would've already.

They are close to the same, plus-or-minus 3-4 days' difference. Body swapping has never happened before so we have nothing to go off of, but I find it hard to believe entire memories and personalities can be wiped in a matter of days.

Hell, dont multiple characters remark that Kass is taking the experience pretty well? Not exactly loving it, but less hysterical than I'D be.

>less hysterical than I'D be.
Pfft. Normie,

I was just bored and felt like posing something along the lines of a Ship of Theseus question. Next time I should try a Trolley Problem

>Asspull
"wizards did it" is and always has been a perfectly valid line of reasoning

>I find it hard to believe entire memories and personalities can be wiped in a matter of days
Sort of like how it's hard to believe an ordinary human male could turn into a female ratbird

Yeah, and the wizardry's already happened in full.
Piling on a whole mental transformation out of nowhere this late in the game stinks of forced drama.

Well it's lucky this is a purely theoretical philosophy question and not any attempt at guessing potential future plot, huh?

If a wizard came along and imprinted a ready-made femlet personality over Kass' then surprise surprise it would no longer be Kass.
Happy? The theoretical philosophical situation's so very specific that I figured it went without saying.

I want to do this for Lopin and make him my husband.

>Viz wants monkey dick
verrrry interesting

So I found out about Fimir from Warhammer Fantasy recently thanks to /tg/. They're basically Yinglets, I wonder if Val intended it or not.

For context, in early Warhammer Fantasy there was a problem where most of the story was ripped off of Michael Moorcock stories, real life history, Tolkien, and IPs that Games Workshop once had the rights to and made miniatures for which included early D&D and Glorantha.

The guy in charge of the company said "We need something really iconic that people will love" and put two guys on it. He said it should be as iconic for Warhammer as Broo are for Glorantha (for context, Broo are a species of animal mutants that reproduce via rape because the goddess who created them became the goddess of rape because she was raped. It makes sense in context, Glorantha deities are based on the evolution of the human race with the Broo and their goddess being based on really REALLY early humans who were basically still animals struggling with the concept of toolmaking and longterm partners or extended courtship).

Anyway, the two guys heard that and decided to just ripoff Broo, real life Celtic mythology (specifically Fomorians), and Jim Henson for some reason. So the Fimir are a race of cyclops bog mutants that look like Skeksis and reproduce via rape. They never really caught on, either because of the rape thing or because the models were kind of screwed up and cost too much money and their stats were too shitty for how big they were since they were supposed to be human sized and wound up really big instead...

Okay, so here's the point of all this; Fimir are poor and scavenge in the wetlands to survive, live primitive, and are disliked or just dismissed by everyone for having nothing to offer and only surviving via luck and a parasitic culture. They're lead by the rarer matriarchs in their groups (unlike Yinglets, the females are sterile and as a result the males need to rape humans to breed) who along with a minority of males are the only intelligent ones. The females organize the males, appoint leaders, reward them, and in general are the supreme masters of society while pursuing their own ideas on advancing their society behind the scenes. They have an ancient myth regarding their own shrouded origins about a mysterious great uniter for their race, although since it resulted in Fimir almost being wiped out its seen as kind of a bad thing for them whereas Yinglets seem to be proud of it.

So like I said, I don't know if Val is a Warhammer player or not, but Fimir are similar.

Nah man, Yinglets are animal enough to have fucking strange biology.

Wanna know real life tranny animals? Those lizards where some males look exactly like females and can be fucked like females, and sneak into the harems of alpha males to pretend to be female and cuckold him by always taking his dick then knocking up all the real females when the alpha isn't around.

Pretty sure Kass giving into the female role would be by creating a new secret Enclave with Fancy Lad in order to lead an army to wage war on the rest of the species as a conqueror.

If he mindbreaks, it'll be in a murderous way.

There are no tranny equivalent animals because no animals are anywhere near as batshit crazy as even the sanest tranny is.

>Thinking this dude is crazy for thinking he's a dragon and going through surgery to accommodate his delusions

perfectly reasonable and socially acceptable

>Thinking this dude is crazy for thinking he's a female and going through surgery to accommodate his delusions

You're a hateful bigot

There's the ones that are fucking insane, and the ones with actually screwed up hormones and shit.

You know about how fucked up hermaphrodites get when parents decide to surgically remove the wrong parts while they're kids? Fucks them up for life, not psychologically but physically because the hormones get ten kinds of out of wack.

Like this one kid that was in the news years ago. Way back in the day they'd just assign herms a gender at birth and that was that, but its illegal to do now, you have to wait and see what they end up being so you don't make them the wrong thing by mistake. Well this one was abandoned to an orphanage run by a church and the head priest told a doctor "make it a girl" because the male parts were really underdeveloped to the point they were barely there. The doc told him its illegal and stupid, so he took the kid to a doctor willing to do it anyway.
So fast-forward to after this kid was adopted and starts getting sick around when puberty is supposed to start. After a shitload of blood work they find out that the kid's brain says he's a boy and the female anatomy is working and says he's a girl, and its screwing with everything in his body from kidneys to heart.
So they go through a massive amount of surgery not to give him a penis, but basically to damage the organs producing sexual hormones and reduce how much he gets for male or female. He's pretty fucked in the longterm though, chance of suicide due to hormonal imbalance is to the point that unless he gets hit by a car that's almost certainly how he's going to go and sex or sexual feeling is just dead.

That kind of shit can happen if you're not a herm too, with your body being totally hooked up wrong.

If they do blood work and you're legitimately getting the wrong hormones and whatever, it makes sense for them to get surgery to make everything work as best it can.

What I'm saying is fuck Sup Forums and fuck Tumblr, trust in science.

Here's someone who posted all the Fimir stuff. You guys decide.

Okay, that didn't work. Here it is.

ah yes, good old cyclops-rape-swamp-kobolds

>fuck Sup Forums and fuck Tumblr,
at the same time?

Its the only way. They magnetically attract each other.
