It sounds interesting, but from what I gather they seem to assert that C level in not inherent in a given population and can change very quickly - since it's epigenetic in nature. That's just not true. IQ is a very strong indicator of civilizational (economic) success, and selection for it happens slower than it would if it were epigenetic (although still relatively quickly).

This is pretty interesting, and a pretty good theory. It enforces the truth that we've all known for some time now, that conservative social behaviors encourage the development of civilization. They even give a nod to Uncle Ozzie Spengler's theory of cyclical history.
However, in some ways, I think they put the cart before the horse. They completely ignore the spiritual aspect of civilization. Aesthetic is not a meme, it is part of what drives human beings to behaviors and attitudes conducive to civilization. But, in a non-spiritual atheistic sense, this is a good theory.
The theory itself has been known for a long time. An ancient philosopher talked about how a warlike people up in the hills come down into the valley and conquer the valley people. They take over their towns and villages, and adopt their ways. After a few generations, another warlike people from the hills comes down and conquers them.
Knowing these truths has not proven adequate enough to stop the cycle from continuing, however. Augustus, one of the most intelligent people to ever hold high office, knew about this and could not stop the destruction of civilization.
The best you can do is prepare for the next Dark Age.

For this purpose, the woman academic who did the dig at the Jericho ruins in the 50's or 60's misconstrued the archaeological evidence and hid things on purpose to throw the archaeological record away from the Biblical one. Her actual stated purpose of the dig was to prove that the Biblical Battle of Jericho never took place, despite the archaeological evidence.

Peer review doesn't always work perfectly and some scholars are petty about their own reputations and their own theories, but in general peer review is simply meant to determine if a piece of research is of a publishable standard for a particular journal or publishing house, regardless of the position being taken. This is why most journals will have a double- or triple-blind review process. You give an interesting example about the ancient Egyptian history -- it seems that's a live debate still waiting for resolution.

In my world, there are cliques of academics who all love harmony. They are content with the current orthodoxy of everything, from archaeology to timelines. They will literally use the timeline as evidence enough to undermine the credibility of a piece of archaeological evidence if it suggests that the timeline may be wrong.

My experience has been that reading books published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing is a complete fucking waste of time.
