How do you cope with the fact that everything is phony (inb4 dismissed for being like Holden)?
Literary theory is bs made up so that people can leech off of academia and get easy degrees.
Social scientists are idiots and weaponised by dishonest journalists as the new secular prophets telling people what to think / why they're shit.
Morality is never practised. A politician who kills innocent people is more popular than one who says politically incorrect things.
So many current novels are merely narcissistic barely disguised memoirs or written by people with zero life experience.
Science and maths are practised mostly within hideously subsidised and bloated academic institutions.
Sex and portrayals of success are shoved in your face wherever you go through songs and pictures. But you're not allowed to say you want any of it.
90+ % of jobs could be done by everyone and only recruit based on looks and personality. Your genetically determined appearance factors are the largest influence of how people treat you, yet this is never acknowledged.
Literature is not an oasis, not one bit.
Jace Taylor
Noticing this alot too. Evolution (macro-evolution) is bullcrap. Relativity is extremely shakey. Quantum theory is an absolute mess. Physicists can't event agree on what a field is let alone a particle. Climate change is a complete hoax. Science, the biggest meme on the planet is a fucking lie. And yet planes fly and bridges are built, so there is always a yin to the yang, I guess.
Brandon Reyes
Let me guess, you're a christfag?
Asher Bell
Science is a belief system just like religion.
This is a deep concept that all should reflect on.

This part is pure projecting nonsense. I am an ugly little autistic and I have an extremely well paying job. Most of my colleagues are hideous little trolls too. Don't blame your inability to get a job on your looks faggot.
Gabriel Hall
At least, while it is practiced almost exclusively in academia, mathematics is wholly honest. That can't be taken away from us.
But everything else is probably bullshit. The way I cope with it is by realizing humans likely aren't valuable to begin with, so perhaps we deserve a phony existence anyway.

What makes "macro-evolution" bullshit? What part of relativity is shaky to you? And why do you think Quantum theory is a mess?
James Morales
The fuck are you talking about, just because you don't understand it doesn't make any of it any less true.
Josiah Price

There's disagreement on fundamental theories but we slowly experiment more with the likes of LISA and the EM Drive. I also disagree with you about climate change, we need to do something even if it only ends up reducing our dependence on fossil fuels.

Colton Cooper
There's no concrete evidence of macro-evolution that cannot be explained by other means.
Nearly everything is wrong with relativity; look up Sagnac experiment or any of the rebuttals of the theory. All very interesting and illuminating.
Quantum theory is like all of them a theory with no way of proving it at present. Many many problems with the theory and many competing theories in the pipeline. Nothing wrong with that it just goes to show how little actual concrete knowledge there is on these subjects.
Andrew Williams
It can't be true or said to be so if there is no real evidence to support it. Look up how the scientific theory works and then see that you are talking out your ass.
Bentley Davis

Honestly anthropogenic climate change is the worst of them, but I too have hopes for the EM drive, not much, but some.

Your perception is skewed. I don't believe in karma, but those whose views line up closer with reality are the ones who become successful in life.
You just get confused by the end result and not the work put into it.
You see a moron holding a good job, and think he got it because he deserved it. What you don't see is his GF sucking the boss off so that he could get the job. Et cetera, et cetera.
You're like a fat person who sees a muscled, absolutely ripped dude eating a piece of cake and thinking Whaa genetics. What you don't see is that same person spending 10 hours in the gym a week and taking steroids to achieve that look.
and so on and so forth.

You missed his fucking point man
The point of OP isn't that all that stuff is false, it's just all so fake
I've been realizing a lot lately too
Everything you see on TV for example, the news, it's all written by someone That person is most likely working in Hollywood or something, and in order to get a job there you have to be a leftist In order to be a leftist and to get the job you go to university to "learn" Leftist ideology gets pushed into media therefore Masses see leftist ideology and see it as the norm
It's phony man
I'll agree with you on the global warming part, but DESU in general most people who go for masters or doctorates right bullshit theses on the 20th derivative of some obscure function Writers write filler material academic journals are filled with filler of researchers who need to keep pumping out bullshit in order to keep their $$$ flowing in
That's what OP meant

What's your job?
Jose Watson
Yep, this only somewhat applies to women. An uglier woman probably has a step up over an attractive one if the person hiring them is a female or a married male that wants to avoid office drama. The female boss doesn't want to hire someone that looks better than them, and a guy would probably rather hire a male instead.
Owen Watson
>There's no concrete evidence of macro-evolution that cannot be explained by other means.
And what other means are these? What do you think about ring species?
>Nearly everything is wrong with relativity; look up Sagnac experiment or any of the rebuttals of the theory. All very interesting and illuminating.
Why don't you explain at least one thing wrong with relativity now?
>Quantum theory is like all of them a theory with no way of proving it at present
I don't think you know what "theory" means. What do you have a problem with? Wave-particle duality? The Schrödinger equation? Photo-electric effect? You do realise that we actually use things based on several principles that rise from quantum mechanics, right? Same goes for relativity: satellites used for GPS experience time dilation due to the speed they travel, but because the influence from Earth's gravity is weaker due to being further away than someone on the surface, the clocks ultimately are faster.
Zachary Martin
These are broad topics ranging from evolution through quantum mechanics and relativity. If you are interested in the contested sides to these theories then I suggest you go research them in your own time and to keep an open mind.
I will agree with you on the time dilation issue of the satellite clocks that is a factor, although whether or not it is produced by the principles of relativity or by some other method has not really been determined yet. It could just be a lucky coincidence in theory and reality, not unprecedented and not really to be unexpected in a theory as muddled and inconsistent as relativity.
Brayden Lopez
shit is true. a lot of society is phony.
semi-related: i run a business and everyone in business has no real purpose. there's not enough "real" jobs to feed everyone (but there is enough food and money) so we all work weird fucking jobs that dont need to exist. and we act like they're important and real.
some study today said that on average, financial advisers lose/cost you money. no one is a financial adviser out of passion. they're all just people trying to make a living. but they dress up in suits and get degrees and act real serious even though at the end of the day they're mostly just trying to put food on their own table and aren't really looking out for you.
but because of the suit and the degree and the seriousness we, as a society, are supposed to respect them. bankers and lawyers etc are somehow more honest and respectable than a weed dealer or someone working a fast-food job even though both of those jobs are more useful AND honest and all three of the jobs mentioned are only being worked so the people can go home and buy food and feed their kids. but we all tell our kids to respect one and not the other two.
that's kinda phony isn't it.
i sell software businesses don't need to businesses that don't need to exist, who themselves sell products that don't need to exist to customers who don't need them using advertising that makes them feel insecure so that those people can build up enough expenses to require a job that doesn't need to be worked.

yeah. but it's so difficult.
Jacob Jones
rest of your point are valid, but by your logic, anybody can create a theory (they can) and it can be valid.
Reason why the theories that persist today do so is because they are applicable, they have been tested and succeeded.
Jason Young
You only gave one example that supposedly disproves these things, the Sagnac effect, which is well known and in fact was shown to fit within relativity. For the others, you have been extremely generic and haven't provided a single example. The answer "look it up" is not good enough. I doubt you actually understand any of these topics at all.
What do you think is happening instead of these theories?
Adam Moore
How can you say that you know anything about these theories if you aren't aware of the criticisms of said theories? You should know exactly what I am talking about if you are well versed in these subjects and if not then you should continue to do more research.
The Sagnac effect effectively undermines the results of the atomic clock and the planes in the early part of the last century and opens up huge questions as to the rigourousness of the theory and its experiments as a whole.
>Science and maths are practised mostly within hideously subsidised and bloated academic institutions.
>Most people who go for masters or doctorates right bullshit theses on the 20th derivative of some obscure function...
You two apparently missed the realization that most people had 50 years ago... the low hanging fruit have all been picked. The reason that science is done on the scale that it is today is precisely because science is, for the most part, derivative en masse. These days, that unfortunately translates into needing large funding grants, large research teams, and a high degree of collaboration to produce any meaningful results. It's rarer and rarer that you will have massive, paradigm changing shifts in scientific fields because that in itself is a special concept in scientific advancement. Read Kuhn's 'The Structure of Scientific Revolutions' to gain deeper insight into this topic.
As this user said, quantum theory is used everyday. My research is based on the application of quantum theory (solid state electronics): if quantum theory didn't work, neither world my research. Last time I checked, it does...
Nobody disagrees that there can be oddities to theory. Our job as researchers is to discover how they arise. But that doesn't mean we can't make use of the utility of the theory. That goes without saying, you realize quantum theory is one of the most tested and heavily utilized aspects of modern physics, right?
Colton Miller
>How can you say that you know anything about these theories if you aren't aware of the criticisms of said theories?
I made no comment on my own knowledge of the subject. I asked you to give examples and explain how these ideas are all wrong. You haven't done so.
Give me ONE example in macro-evolution which could be explained by another means. Give me one example in quantum mechanics which has no way of being proved but is commonly believed.
>The Sagnac effect effectively undermines the results of the atomic clock
How does it do this?
