Most of these come down to a fundamental misunderstanding of how gravity works.
To put it simply, there is no universal "down". We're all being pulled towards the largest mass, which in our case is the center of the Earth. "Down" is simply your position relative to the center of the Earth.
Thus, 2 points that are an equal distance from the center of the Earth are level, even if they appear to "curve" up or down from one another. No slant exists until you have two points that are different distances from the center of the Earth.
