Titanic was a terrible film.

One of the biggest films of all time.
Implying that Cameron doesn't know how to set the box office on fire. Time after time.

>Avatar
>Titanic

>Cameron was an English major drop out
>worked as a truck driver
>randomly decides to enter the film industry after seeing Star Wars
>7 years later he directs and writes his first film, the Terminator, one of the greatest sci-fi films every made

How is this possible? is it simply pure genius?

>Avatar
>Titanic
Objectively speaking, both are brilliantly made movies compared to their contemporaries and won a shit ton of Oscars and they're two of BIGGEST movies of all time. I think Cameron is winning that fight.

He already has. Avatar was absolute shit. I can understand the Snyder memes but when you guys pretend avatar was good it honestly shakes my faith in humanity.

Avatar was shit. Nothing but a glorified tech demo that, while looking gorgeous in 3D cinema back then, looks fucking terrible like a shitty video game now.

Titanic was an extremely well made film.

Babies are ugly.

big part of avatar success in box office was people falling for 3D meme. I know shitload of people who doesn't go to cinema at all (literally zero) but they went for avatar because

>3D dude, you have to see this

hype was big those days, and in order to repeat that, they have to do something BIG like that. They know this, and they will make something. What will it be? Without some nice gimmick they will of course made big money, but not as big as with the first movie.

It's fucking 10 years old. Show me a cgi showcase movie from the same time that looks anywhere near as good as Avatar.

Also, Avatar is still a solid - even if unmemorable - a sci-fi adventure.

it was more that the 3d was integrated very well with the rest of the cgi, instead of it being a reach-out-at-you "WOAH" tier gimmick.

There might be some new gimmick, but I doubt it. it will still make a shitload of money in asia, and probably will have an enormous first two weeks in the states before falling away sharply.

This.

Avatar was probably the first 3D movie done right. I always remember stories of how Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson were trying to figure out new motion-capture techniques for their Tin Tin movie and they both stopped by Cameron's studio while he was filming Avatar. They were both utterly fucking blown away by what he had achieved. Cameron's not a great storyteller and a great director, he's also able to push the envelope with sfx technology and integrate it into his movies in an organic way that George Lucas could only dream of.

Making a product that sells well is not the same as making a good product

Or do you think McDonalds is the epitome of cuisine

>true lies
>good

he clearly mustve had a long term interest in film, but never went for it. it happens alot. people have hobbies that really fulfil them but never think they could make it into their career

the people who do push to turn it into a career can end up being great talents

Name one movie that has objectively better CGI on the scale of Avatar

Sort of. He was essentially a self taught special effects expert and used that to get his foot in the door and work on a bunch of movies before he got his big break with Terminator

>there are people on this board who think he is capable of making a good movie
all his movies are shit even terminator

But Avatar has already been released....so he has made a bad movie. Avatar is pure garbage, some clever computer generated bullshit isn't enough to make up for that

Fuck you. True Lies was the last great Arnie flick.

>implying Avatar has the staying power of Star Wars, and after shelving it for years because Disney doesn't want competition, expecting it to still generate the kind of turnout the first one did

Stay naive. When most who saw it can't even recite a single line from it, the sequels are NOT gonna earn what he thinks.

>
>Making a product that sells well is not the same as making a good product
>Or do you think McDonalds is the epitome of cuisine

Many top chefs have gone on record saying they like the nuggets.

Through sheer empirical data, yes, it is something that many people like. McDonald's themselves have spent millions in marketing research to get their ingredients just right for consumer satisfaction.

You're just trying really hard to be a snob.

if popularity would equal quality then socialism would actually work

popularity does not equal quality because consumers do not choose based on quality alone if at all

>t. Pic related

>the sequels are NOT gonna earn what he thinks.
People will piss and moan about the Avatar sequels.

Then they'll get released and turn out to be pretty fucking great and successful just like every Cameron movie. I couldn't give a shit about the movies but I can already tell thats what's going to happen.

Screencap this.

>mfw the last movie I watched in a theatre was Avatar

That would imply that those people have the right to choose how their governments are structured. There is no free market of governments, people are restricted by their place of birth.

Furthermore you keep placing yourself as supreme arbiter of what people should like. The people watched Avatar, stop pretending to be a Cosmopolitan.

Titanic was a terribly written film for cancerous romancefags. It was a well directed movie.

Yeah I know that feeling. It's kinda sad but my home set-up is actually better quality than my local multiplex. I only go to cinema now if something I can't desperately wait 2-3 months to download.

>you keep placing
I am a different user, this was my first post in this discussion.

>supreme arbiter of what people should like
Wrong. People can like whatever they want. However, it is also wrong that popularity equals quality.

>people have the right to choose how their governments are structured
They do.

>There is no free market of governments
Muuh free market. Ahh sounds like you are an ancap retard. What you fail to understand is that consumers are not omnisapient perfectly rational infinitely intelligent beings.

9th post best post

And how fucking long did it take him to start working on Avatar 2 after saying it would be a trilogy from the get go and blowing up the box office? It's going to be terrible, I can only imagine how many rewrites there were.

Literally like comparing a modern AAA video game game to Crysis. You're being stupid. Avatar still looks good, but it's been outdone.

>it's been outdone
By what? Genuinely curious

On a technical level Crysis still beats the shit out of many modern tribble AAAEEEE games.
Same with Avatar.

>>supreme arbiter of what people should like
>Wrong. People can like whatever they want. However, it is also wrong that popularity equals quality.

You are not presenting a single other metric by which "quality" can be measured. Thus you are only using your own subjective opinion as a metric of measure. This clearly signifies that you are placing yourself as arbiter of "quality".

1 billion live in China. They have no way of reforming.
1 billion live in India. Again no chance for Reformation.
1 billion live in Africa. Corrupt countries, barely even the chance to vote.
Same goes for corrupt South American countries, Middle East, SEA.
The European citizens are logged into a system where their ancestors signed away their sovereignty. Brexit isn't going to happen.
The US is the only place where your hypothesis has a minute amount of credence. But since it's an exception to the global rule it's an ineffective example.

Going by sheer number alone the vast majority don't even have the basic right to vote. The next standard have ineffective voting systems. The smallest metric barely have the ability for immediate change.

oh yeah and Kate Winslet was a really interesting character. Fucking hell it was stupid af. No reason to make it except showing off technical skills.

>How is this possible? is it simply pure genius?

It's the work of a miracle.

PFHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Is that blanket made of avatar skin??

wow u wrote an entire novel

gimme some time before I read ur post

pretty graphics in movies are pointless, get back to me when they can project realistic holographic images around me and ill care about how real someone can make a blue monkey look

>hype was big those days,
>implying it isn't still the number 1 reason most plebs go to the cinema
See: TFA

FPBP

I'll give you a lifetime.

You'll need it.

The nuggets are shit, they taste like nothing.

That's an objectively untrue statement.

If you can't taste anything it's more of a testament of how much you've fried your taste buds with salt and sugar over the years.

T2, and arguably abyss, was the start of his downfall imo. now its all about huge budget movies

The Terminator is his best film prove me wrong

Avatar was a gigantic pile of shit, so it's not that huge a leap.

>Extremely autistic person uses nonsense to try to justify that he loved a terrible movie

here, here!
as a side note: i've only watched avatar once. i started a second viewing at one point but just said "fuck it". it's not interesting enough to me to watch it again.

can't because you're correct. T2 was the black album of cameron's career.

Dude. It's McDonalds.

It IS the salt and sugar frying people's taste buds.

Are you so assblasted over your love of Avatar that you by extension are really committed to arguing that McDonalds is good food because people eat tons of it?

There IS no objective barometer of quality, and only the extremely autistic and emotionally unstable insist that there is one because they need a safe space where things make sense in order to not sperg out.

Stop humiliating yourself. Really. I'm not even being sarcastic or witty, it was funny at first but now it's just getting painful to read.

...

Probably yeah.

You love BvS right?

Terminator 2 was a shitty watered down kids movie.
