Seriously though what the fuck were they thinking?
One of the reasons why the original was so great was because it had character, and was interestingly complex. With Blade Runner 2049 all they did was slap together a bare-bones plot with a similar visual look to the first one, shoved some hackneyed shit about love and replicant freedom fighters in there, and called it a day.

Forget it user, it's waifutown.

everything you said about the sequel actually applies to the original
the sequel actually has an intricate plot with several different factions with different motivations with the protagonist caught in the middle trying to figure out this elaborate backstory and with each thing he learns it changes him personally
meanwhile in the original a man is hired to track down 4 fugitives and he only has to do detective work to find 1 of them and that's it, the only character with an arc is Roy who has four scenes in the entire movie, 2 of which are him just intimidating someone with little characterization, but it had groundbreaking special effects so people have to jack off to it 35 years later

The original wasn't this revolutionary movie that you make it out to be, in fact, it was just as "successful" as this one, to an extent. I very much enjoyed both of them but the first one was initially not as complex as you think it was, a lot of the story came after the fact in the directors and final cut. 2049, I believe, is a worthy (and I agree unnecessary) successor to the original Blade Runner.

>a similar visual look to the first one There's so much wrong with all of your word vomit but this takes the cake. Stick with Nolan.

Blade Runner 2049 is to Blade Runner what Star Wars: The Force Awakens is to Star Wars. What slowly starts out as a quiet, small journey of discovery quickly devolves into an epic miscalculation that ultimately equals nothing. Propelled by an unhealthy misconception of what the original Blade Runner was which is a grimey, intimate meditation on desolation and loneliness, Blade Runner 2049 meanders on majestically like an orchestra without a conductor. Where it tries to be epic, it exposes its emptiness. Where it tries to be clever, it flashes a lack of ambition I wasnt disappointed in Blade Runner 2049 because it failed to replicate the dreamlike vibe of the original but because its replicants disappeared beneath gorgeous images and shallow philosophy
Simply put it's Blade Runner for the Nolan generation

One of the reasons why the sequel was so great was because it had character, and was interestingly complex. With the original Blade Runner all they did was slap together a bare-bones plot with a "cool" visual look, shoved some hackneyed shit about the future and Ford getting beat up the entire runtime, and called it a day.

I think that's an inaccurate comparison. TFA was obviously shrouded in feminism and political correctness whereas 2049 took a bold approach an it cost them the box office.
>grimey, intimate meditation on the desolation of loneliness K is literally alone, he is constantly shunned for his existence (of being a "skinjob") and he has an AI girlfriend/wife. Nothing he has is real, and what he thought was real (him being special in the eyes of Joi and being the child of Deckard) are swiftly taken away from him and in the end, he tragically dies alone having life a full life.

Put examples about the plot if you want to bait, if not you are only a fedora retarded spewing out bullshit that applies to every sequel.
