Interestingly, Finland.
Rome split into the east and west, authorised ultimately by two different religious heads. When the east finally fell, that religious head fled to the strongest orthodox community: Russia. Russia conquered Finland, retained it as a grand duchy (effectively equal to a king). Unfortunately the Marxists came to Russia, but not to Finland.
This means Finland is the last remnant of the Roman empire.
