I saw it in IMAX

>I saw it in IMAX
yeah, no you didn't. If you want to go to a real IMAX, 90% of the time the closest one will be at a museum. They usually play stupid "whoa... IMAX" documentary shorts and shit but they sometimes play real movies too.

There's a map of confirmed and fake imax locations embedded here:

Thats a big screen

the real screen is literally this much bigger than a typical fake one

UUUU

If you advertised IMAX would you lie?

based Baneposter

i actually did see interstellar and dunkirk in 70mm IMAX at the lincoln square theater mentioned here. i gotta say it was pretty awesome

Fuck, I just realized I saw Avatar in fake IMAX

Thanks OP didn't know there was a real one in Sacramento now I just need to find a movie worth $30 bucks

You can still see Blade Runner at most museum Imaxes. I live Baltimore and the closest regular, non-museum movie theater with one of these screens is all the way near Philadelphia

>tfw I totally saw Blade Runner in a real IMAX

what the fuck, they don't even remotely have the same aspect ratio. How can they call the bottom IMAX? How can they even fit the IMAX picture on the screen without cropping off the top and the bottom?

real Imax is shit. I saw it in dolby cinema the true kino experience. Sound was incredible

>tfw going to see BR2049 for the second time at the Printworks IMAX in Manchester later today

Melbourne Aus here. This city is a leftist shithole but at least we have a genuine one. We have the third largest screen in the world. Sydney has the second one in their Imax.

>living around the corner from the largest one in the world

>Printworks IMAX
damn, they still play Dunkirk if you go at like 10 in the morning. Why are there so few of these theaters?

>How can they call the bottom IMAX?
I think IMAX just whores its brand name out to anything that meets its "big enough" criteria, as long as it gets a percent of the ticket sales

enjoy sitting on your wooden bench and drinking water from the water fountain dipshit

I know of two IMAX’s near me. One’s in the state museum, the other’s a few towns down. Both are wonderful.

There’s also a lieMAX just down the street. It’s literally just one of the older theaters with blue lights and speakers in the back that say IMAX on them, and it’s the most transparent money-marketing scheme I’ve ever seen.

What's the most ridiculous is that REAL IMAX is the same price or less a regular ticket. Wheras shitty movie theater lieMAX is like 20 dollars a ticket.

Also, don't see Blade Runner 2049 in IMAX. It cuts off like 30 percent of the image and fucks up the sound big time. Roger Deakins even said he prefers the standard image over IMAX or 3D. I need to see it again now.

>It cuts off like 30 percent of the image
yeah I don't think so bud, more like the other way around. Look at how much of the top is cut off in this webm of the standard version. You can hardly even see her eyes.

...

I saw TFA and Bladerunner at this one

Dumbass, an Imax screen is bigger than standard. It's practically impossible to see less of the image in imax

What do you guys think of Dolby Cinema? Worth seeing BR 2049 in DC or IMAX?

I'm guessing they still had huge letterboxing, even though they were filmed in IMAX ratio? Those screens are just so high and squarish

I was mistaken about the aspect ratio of the image. IMAX is larger.

That being said, I stand by my complaints about IMAX sound. The bass is annoyingly high, and its not done well at all, like Dunkirk was. Also, Deakins himself said he prefers the standard widescreen.

rogerdeakins.com/film-talk/blade-runner-2049-2d-or-3d/

they usually configure the sound independently at each theater. Not all of them are going to be too heavy on the bass.

And Roger Deakins is just a classic guy who likes to watch his movies the classic way. I don't care what he says, I'd still rather have the version where Joi's eyes aren't obviously cut off. .

I saw this in Dolby Cinema. First time going to a Dolby Cinema theatre. Great visually but the vibrating seats were annoying as fuck.

You'll have to pardon me having an acquired taste for what's likely just limitation and not intention, but I prefer the standard shot here because we're shown K from the back with head cut off and in front is a cut off head of a statue, closer he gets the more we see of his head and the point where the statue's neck was severed gets obscured.

I can't explain his feet being cut off though.

If your theatre doesn't use these, its not the full Kino-experience.

...

The real imaxes are so big and so detailed, it made me motion sick when I was a kid. I felt like I was flying, and it wasn't even in 3d.
