So why did it fail? It's the central work of famous author Stephen King and has a huge fanbase after all

So why did it fail? It's the central work of famous author Stephen King and has a huge fanbase after all.

It failed because it was a shit movie, user! The trailer screamed "I'M CRAP!"

why can't black people hold guns normally?

Nearly everything about the movie was terrible. I was expecting this and was pleasantly surprised by parts of the first act- the opening scene with the breakers was great, the bits with Jake fearing the low men and taheen was actually pretty cool.

But the rest of the movie is trash, from the acting to the production design to the story.

The literal plot of the entire series is missing- the mystery of just what is in the tower and why it's crumbling and the need for Roland to reach it. Instead it's swapped out for The Man in black trying to destroy all reality, which is I guess kind of similar to what you might think the plot is if you read a couple of the books 20 years ago and then forgot what they were about and tried to make a movie about them.

>It's the central work of famous author Stephen King and has a huge fanbase after all.
Source: your ass.

90 minuets of cinematic space & time ain’t large enough to consume huge volumes of reading material. It would’ve been much better off it was set to make several episodic entires that leading to the epic finale. I’m so disappointed by the outcome user.

Being shit doesn't stop capeshit from making money

I have 0 exposure to the source material and even I could tell it was butchered to fit into a short movie. Everything about it just felt rushed and unexplained plus the kid was terrible.

What audience was it appealing to? Stephen King honestly hasn't been relevant in decades and the trailers all looked like a mess the adventures of some kind of weird magic bullet cowboy fighting some ordinary guy in a dress shirt and protecting a little boy?
Compare that to it and how grounded it is by 80s middle America BUT A BIG BRIGHT SCARY THING IN THE MIDDLE OF IT.

It's ironic but without Stranger Things, I doubt IT would have done as well as it did.

It was a bloody piece of rubbish, pal

didnt bother watching it because of WE WUZ CLINT EASTWOOD LOOKIN N SHIET

Compressing 8 books into one 90 minute flick.

It was alright until they rushed the ending. Even the last fight was alright, but then

>"You're a gunslinger now kid"
>*Both walk off to new adventures*
>*screen goes black*

The story was so fucking bizarre that I started to doubt my memory of what actually happened in the books. I do not recall Walter being the head of an organisation that kidnaps children to use as psychic missiles to take shots at the Tower. I don't recall Roland's motive for catching up to Walter being 'you made my dad stop breathing'. I also thought he only went by Walter when Roland was a child and he was pretending to be a magician or whatever.

It fucked with my brain.

King is a hack.

I agree. It seems like they tried to tell the whole story in one 95 minute film and that was a bad mistake. It looks like the TV series is still planned, so maybe there is hope for the franchise, but I would prefer a Director's Cut with a few more minutes added, and a different ending.

What did you think if Roland?

The organization did exist, and the Man in Black was probably behind it somehow, but I don't remember him reporting to work like a foreman or something.

It was fucking terrible.

>produced by Sony Studios
>asks why it fails
Is it that hard to figure out?

First off, the books don't work as a film, they alienated any actual fans by removing a lot of characters and making the gunslinger black, who in the books was described as a young cling-eastwood looking guy with piercing blue eyes.

Also, Sony and Akiva Goldsman, that's a world class recipe for absolute shit.

>Sony Studios
I can put my finger on it but all their movies look kinda similiar.
I don't know if it is the colour or anything.

Someone post the webm

I don't even remember him kidnapping children other than Jake. Also I was not fucking impressed with this part of the final scene. Jesus Christ.

I am a huge fan and thought Idris Memelba was fine as Roland. The movie was not good though. My wife thought it was just "ok" but she hasn't read any of the books.

This film had a lot of problems.
Has anyone read what Stephen King thought? He can't be happy.

Yeah. Caught it on stream a few days ago and literally turned it off at the end.

why does the steal beam slow down so much?

The sad part is I used to think up goofy action shit like that all the time. fuck man, it's like they said, " this book's plot needs more over the top action to keep the audience awake!" Roland being a white actor wasn't going to save this in any capacity!

jesus this looks awful

the book is too big to condense into a single movie. A lot of stephen kings work is, and would benefit more from being a mini series instead. The true fans who read the books will appreciate the fine details, and the normies will get everything they need spoonfed to them

IT worked so well because its arguably his most famous work, people know its about a monster clown that eats kids. So they changed well over half the material and made their own movie with the basic story outline from the book. The Dark Tower series isnt as flexible

McConaughey's entire aesthetic was fucking terrible. It looked like they dyed his hair with a $2 bottle of Just For Men.

That's because modern capeshit isn't truly all that shit. If you want to see true capeshit that bombed look at fucking Elektra and Catwoman.

>has nothing to do with the books
>main character is BLACKED
>annoying fucking kid as MC instead of Roland

Jeez boy why did it fail

>literally turned it off at the end.
What else would you do?

>main character negrified
Gee, i wonder why it failed....

holy shit, it's worse than i could have ever imagined.

HAHAHAHAHAHAH when he flicks the bullets over oh man. How is anyone supposed to take this serious

It only followed the book by having characters with the same name. None of the lore followed the books, it was just a big convoluted mess that explained nothing. It was one of the worst movies I have ever seen. Why would McConahey agree to this shit?

>Stiefn Kang
>having any sort of expectations whatsoever

Instead of a gritty mix of sci-fi/western/supernatural that was The Gunslinger they condensed ideas from 3 different books and got the details fucked up about one of them. Turned the movie into a mess.

He went by the name Marten Broadcloak when he was the court magician.

>Why would McConahey agree to this shit?
SHOW ME THE MONNEEEEEEEYYYYY

Flicking the bullets at him would have been fine. but that fucking blocking it with his gun is ridiculous.

Also the steel beam was retarded. Sure Roland said he heals quickly, but goddamn that doesn't mean you can be hit full force by a steal beam and just carry on a few moments later.

I was on board for most of it, but then the bad parts really ruined the film.

Black roland was ok. And the fact it was a different story helped me get past the idea of him as Roland.

It felt way too rushed though. Suddenly there's just portals everywhere, so they can conveniently travel around whenever they need to get to the next plot point.

To be honest I'm not sure what I wanted.

This film flopping probably saved me from investing 6 years of my time into a series which climaxes with Johnny Autism defeating a mad king with a fucking eraser.

not enough MOMMY

I guess that is the very reason I haven't seen it and don't plan on doing it anytime soon. Trust me when I say I have nothing against black/white/whatever people but the moment I saw black Roland I knew right away I have no interest in watching this one - if someboby in charge of making the movie picks a black actor for no reason at all apart from building hype I know I don't wanna watch it.

Oh, and the fact they made a 90min. movie out of 8 rather heavy books

Will we ever get to see Idris Elba escorting Stephen King around telling him how he's the center of the universe and "taller than gan (god)"? Is The Dark Tower cinematic universe finished?

I don't even care about the Dark Tower but my friend who read them his entire life was turned into a racist overnight when I told him a nigger was casted as the protagonist.

Seen it 2 days ago

The kid was a mistake

I wanted the bad guys to win
Also the black guy was slow

Movie is already for 18 yet so childish at the same time

FUCKING LOOK AT THIS SHIT

GODDAMN

>if someboby in charge of making the movie picks a black actor for no reason at all apart from building hype I know I don't wanna watch it
That's just your assumption based on your innate racism.

>Oh he couldn't have been chosen for his talent
>It's just a PC/hype thing
>I would be ok if it was because of his talents though... but this totes isn't, trust me, I know

>the fact they made a 90min. movie out of 8 rather heavy books
Are you retarded? Even if they adapted the books perfectly, they would still only need about 90mins, because the first book is pretty short. Or would you rather a 3 hour movie covering all 8 books and trying to squash it in even more?

Look up LOTR and you might understand how large books get adapted for movies.

Wut, how did he make 1 bullet slow and another fast?

So, where is this talent of his?
No, being a negro is not a talent.

>great story
>great cast
>giant piece of shit
but why?

>produced by Sony Pictures Entertainment
ah

I can accept this kind of thing. Roland is supposed to be a god tier gunslinger wielding guns forged from the magic sword excalibur.

Kings newer works aren't as good as the pulp horror he once churned out. He's not irrelevant and an update to any of his works should result in better quality than their precursors. A Cujo, Salems lot or even fucking running man remake would be a more faithful adaptation than the originals because the culture allows for some of the darkness removed in their original adaptations to be returned.
Still, I've read the dark tower series more than once and I'll one day, out of boredom, watch the movie.

How does all that shit in your guts look?

How he done did the second boolet faster?

You clearly are an American. I said I have nothing against blacks and that is not my opinion - it's a fact. I believe theres a lot of talented actors who somehow are looking like Roland in the books. I don't care why they picked Elba (i like him btw) he was just a wrong pick in my opinion. And no, it would not be ok if it was because of his talent, cuz he just very clearly don't fit this fucking role

You're comparing a 10+ hour adaptation of a 1000+ page book with a 90 min adaptation of a 3000+ page series.
>retard
>thinks an apple and a tank are roughly the same size

I think it's shopped.

I always thought that if they ever made a movie, ddl would’ve been perfect
