Honestly 3 of my favorite movies of all time

It already is

Don't even need to change the order in the image

fucking Verhoeven was on a roll. What the fuck happened?
It's Troopers > RoboCop > Recall by the way

Total Recall > RoboCop > Starship Troopers

Troopers >>>>> Recall >> RoboCop

Verhoeven's Dystopian Future Trilogy

-Robocop
-Starship Troopers
-Total Recall

anyone have the gif where Dick Jones falls out of the building, but it's that really weird special effects dummy.

Correct answer.

...

Not Showgirls on #1, pleb list.

Showgirls > Troopers > Robocop > Recall > Basic Instinct

Robocop > Starship Troopers > Total Recall

Was anyone else allowed to watch Robocop at a really young age?

Showgirls > Starship Troopers > Robocop >Total Recall

Troopers reboot when?

Yup. I got to see Die Hard and both Terminator movies when I was kid too.

Robocop = Troopers > Total Recall > Hollow Man.

I was born in 85. There's not a period of my life that I can remember that doesn't include that movie.

Total Recall is the best science fiction film of the three.
Robocop is the best satire/comedy film of the three.
Starship Troopers is the best action film of the three.

Objectively:
1. Robocop
2. Starship Trooper
3. Total Recall

Subjectively:
1. Starship Troopers
2. Total Recall
3. Robocop

I never knew that Verhoeven did Hollowman.

Robocop > Total Recall > Starship Troopers

they're all great tho

Robocop is the obvious best of the three.

Honestly, it's a toss up between Total Recall and Starship Troopers for me. It all depends if you like the military story of Troopers. (and get that it is satire in obvious and subtle ways.)

ST is great satire though, on par or arguably better than Robocop.

Robocop is the best satire/comedy, I'll give you that, but Total Recall is the best in action. Arnie, bro. Nothing tops kino Arnold.

I love how Starship Troopers was deemed a shit movie at first, until people realized that it was actually mocking American society as being comparable with the Nazi's. It added the needed layer to the movie.

You ever watch the documentary about how 9/11 happens almost ecactly like Starship troopers, even though ST predates it?

>RoboCop
Utter shit
>Starship Troopers
Went to far away from the book that it's actually just a liberal parody of the book , not only utter shit but an actual slap in the face to fans.
>Total Recall
The only good movie on there.

the satire in Troopers looks way more over the top in comparison to Robocop imo desu senpai

Still pretty subtle it seems, since it went over a lot of people's head back when it came out.
Go back to your containment board.

Robocop > Starship Troopers > Total Recall > Showgirls > Basically It Stinks! > Hollow Man

(you)

>multiracial multicultural globalist federation

yeah, just like the Nazis.

it's actual shit because Verhoeven missed the mark in trying be anyway accurate in his attempt to use his satire to intelligently criticize the politics of the book and in connecting that to the current miltarized America.

Soldaat van Oranje, Verhoeven's best movie and his breakthrough to Hollywood.

Recall > Robo > Troopers

>Durr complaining that you wanted an actual movie on the book you like and not a a literal Satire piece on the book means ur an ebil nadzee
Neck yourself

>Still pretty subtle it seems, since it went over a lot of people's head back when it came out.
I wouldn't really say it went over the heads of anyone, it's more that Verhoeven just really played up the sarcasm but couldn't find a legitimate way to actually undermine the society presented in the story. Robocop doesn't need to turn the sarcasm up to 11 because the flaws of the corporate dystopia are a natural part of the plot of the film.

He attacked the porn industry with Showgirls. You don't attack the porn industry.

Troopers=Robocop>=Recall

Prove me wrong

The best directors take a work and put a lense on it. Kubrick did with the Shining, exposing King as the hack he was. Starship Troopers is a shitty book that deserved to be mocked.

Robocop > Robocop 2 > Starship Troopers > Total Recall

RoboCop > Recall > Troopers

They're all great movies though

looks like you did already

The book is fine, it's just that Verhoeven's a European boomer, and they're even more Nazi-phobic than Americans and hate anything resembling strong nationalism. Verhoeven tried his best to make it a joke and compare the protags to Nazis and people still liked the world and the characters in spite of that.

Troopers is underrated, Recall is overrated.

Robocop is a perfect movie.

>Recall is overrated
Recall has the best sci-fi concepts out of the three by a mile, though.

If you're gonna compare a Verhoeven movie, you compare it to every other movie ever made... that wasn't made by Paul Verhoeven.

You already did, from left to right.

Recall>Troopers>Robocop

And it does by far the least of consequence with its intriguing premise. There are approximately two scenes in the film that address the subjectivity of Quaid's reality. The rest of the movie is pretty much a standard Schwarzenegger film complete with mindless gunfire, one liners, and campy effects. Don't get me wrong, it's a very entertaining watch and I have nothing against it for what it is. But people blow it up to be some kind of deep and thought provoking film and it stays in the pretty shallow end of the pool about 85% of the time if you ask me.

Starship Troopers is a brilliant satire, and Robocop is a perhaps even more brilliant satire and on top of that it almost paradoxically manages to be a compelling story with legitimate emotional weight. Murphy is a fully fleshed out character unlike the deliberately vapid main characters in Troopers and we understand and root for him.

No they don't. The sequels were closer to the book and no one gave a shit about them. People like Starship Troopers because Verhoeven is a master of action movies.

Starship Troopers is really boring.

It's Robocop > Starship Troopers > Total Recall for me.

I love TR though so it's hard to put it in third. All three are so damn good.

>"The walls of reality will come crashing down!"
And then the scene is immediately followed by the villains blowing the walls apart and running through them to surround Schwarzenegger.

Total Recall has a lot of standard Arnie tropes, absolutely. But you don't need to constantly fixate on the subjectivity in the way that, say, David Cronenberg would have done if he got his hands on the film as long as you never definitively go one direction or the other. I legitimately think this is the best PKD adaptation because it manages to be as pulpy as his work always was while still adhering perfectly to his fascination with ambiguous realities.

Robocop>>>>Starship Troopers
Haven't seen Total Recall yet

Starship Troopers is primarily about a vision of a nationalist utopia, not about space bugs.

I wonder if people here take starship troopers seriously or just find the joke is "hehe over the top propaganda segments xD" Disturbing.

>Utopia

Everyone is either horifically maimed or brainwashed to be sent into a meatgrinder to then be horifically maimed. It's an endless cycle of pointless awful violence to keep everyone enslaved. Watching Starship Troopers is watching bright eyed kids get chewed up and warped by a fascist system into bloodthirsty thugs training the next generation of soon to be body bag stuffers. The sequels are stupid, Johnny Rico and all his friends should be dead or crippled. Not legendary heroes.

>pointless
The bugs literally levelled an entire city. That was a pretty good reason to go to war with them. And they weren't nation building, either, so they seemed to have more sense than the actual American government did after 9/11.

My dad showd me Predator and it changed my life

Robocop
Starship Troopers
Total Recall

But it's 10/10, 9,5/10 and 9/10

I watched all that shit when I was a kid under 10, everything and anything with an R rating and I loved it.

I'd buy that for a dollar!

>he thinks the bugs actually did the meteor drop.

The bugs are shown to be capable of shooting down giant, fortified warships in orbit, but apparently you think they can't bump an asteroid and alter its trajectory?

this

all high end films

would rank starship troopers above the other but only so slightly because of childhood memories.

all 3 are excellently crafted films

Born in 82' and had 4 older bros. Got to watch anything I wanted from birth. Made for an exciting childhood. Still love these movies, not much action can compare.

>Soldaat van Oranje
Haven't seen. Now I feel plebeian. Thanks.

no

We Can Remember It For You Wholesale

Well said. These movies should be enjoyed with the gusto of the 80's Reaganite machismo that permeated society.

Soldaat van Oranje was Verhoeven's only good film. It was brilliant, and the rest of his oeuvre is shite.

Fuck man, that must have been awesome. Bunk beds, golden age of Nintendo, sage advice from older bros, can field half your own sports team

I found Total Rectal to be somewhat shitty.

Soon, and it will be more faithful to the book and not satirical.

Roman candle fights, forest fires, Dirt bike racing, Bully bashing, hot babysitters, bodybuilding, Rifle range in basement and backyard, comic books, getting my ass beat, best childhood.

/thread

The real question is what remake was better, Total Recall or Robocop?

>:O

>being a Buenos Aires conspiracist
Hi Alex.

I like you.

I need to watch Total Recall again, been ages. Hardly remember a thing other than Arnold's golden lines.

Starship Troopers > Robocop though.

Robocop, Total Recall, Starship

Great taste.

1. Starship Troopers
2. Robocop
3. Total Recall

(shoutout to Basil Poledouris)

The first pair of tits I ever saw onscreen belonged to the three-titted mutant from Total Recall. I was 4.

Don't be dumb. Showgirls wasn't even about porn.

A challenger appears.
