Just booked for a second viewing at the imax lads. Its on a work night so itll be empty this time.
What did GITS do wrong that BR2049 do right?
try to be good
Same here lad. Going to see it for a second time tomorrow during the day so hoping the theater will be empty. I thought GITS was boring but I never watched the anime so that's probably why.
GITS lacked a legitimately interesting plot, atmosphere, and character development. It also had a horrible villain while BR2049's was okay.
GITS is action pulp trash
2049 is not an action movie
BR villain was kino with the music and set he accompanied
One understood the source material and the other did not.
More budget, practical sets and effects, better visuals, better actors, better anything film related etc.
GITS did nothing wrong. It's actually a better film than Blade Runner 2049. It just got raped by negative word-of-mouth and marketing. Also, most edgy kids today can't get behind a film with a female lead, so I guess that had something to do with as well.
...
idk mate, I enjoyed the film but Wallace's drawl when talking put me off. They should have got Fassbender to be Wallace if you ask me. Its a shame he was working on meme: covenant instead. Fassbender would have flawlessly pulled off the role of both agent K or Wallace.
>What did GITS do wrong that BR2049 do right?
It was far less ambitious and did a basic romantic hero's story, without a portentous score and a trendy cinematographer giving it a sense of weight. In other words, it's just a popcorn movie and doesn't pretend to be anything else. Which is part of why I think it's better than 2049 - it succeeds, albeit with lesser goals. Meanwhile, Blade Runner 2049 is an empty spectacle that hints at themes, but like its characterizations, much of it goes undeveloped. It has nothing to say, and replaces the original's ambiguity and meaning with plot holes and a sad pup story.
It's an adaptation of an anime that didn't need to be made.
And Blade Runner is a sequel that didn't need to be made. At least GITS can tell a basic story.
>better words I know that are associated with film, I'm just trying to sound smarter by just saying I liked the movie better
nothing, they both flopped.
Kill yourself off of Sup Forums if you're going to defend this siht.
If you actually like GITS movie then you're a pleb, it's a ruined movie because it's a shit adapation of a 7/10 anime.
>At least GITS can tell a basic story.
Did you not watch Blade Runner or did you just watch Razorcuckold bullshit?
Strangely or not, I was immediately put off by the casting done for GITS.
Add the lack of interesting story and the fact that most of us already knew the story ruined it.
nice argument
>better words I know that are associated with film
But it is better in every word associated with film...any role they could fill out was done by more competent people
You're a faggot with shit taste and pathetic stock excuses
Extremely well-done visuals to hide the lack of depth or plot.
We aren't aruging, I'm laying down the facts that if you defend it you need to back on r/movies.
>Kill yourself off of Sup Forums if you're going to defend this siht.
I wouldn't mind that.
>If you actually like GITS movie then you're a pleb,
Pleb and kinos are memes for plebs.
> it's a ruined movie because it's a shit adapation of a 7/10 anime.
Criticizing a film for what it's not is a non-criticism. Accept the work on its own terms and judge it as such. And fuck your gay anime.
>Did you not watch Blade Runner
Blade Runner tells a great story, you're right. 2049 doesn't.
>or did you just watch Razorcuckold bullshit?
I watched a little and it made me chuckle. But I'm sorry, not every person to dislike your precious overcooked blockbuster is some ranting and raving unwashed imbecile.
>And fuck your gay anime.
Stopped reading there, fuck off back on reddit.
GITS needed to be Directed by Gaspar Noe and Scripted by Alex McGarland and Charlie Brooker and it would have had a chance of being good!!!FACT!!!
It's just the opposite.
The "Villain" in BR2049 is barely even in the film and has no "character" or real motivation. His whole raison d'etre or "reason for being" in the film is really quite silly when you think about it: he wants replicants to produce children because somehow he thinks this will be better for his business. It's totally nonsensical.
I'm not sure if you even watched Ghost in the Shell 2017, or even the anime film for that matter, but it's objectively speaking much more complex on every level. The villain (kuze): radical fighting against human augments who was abducted and made into an experimental test subject for Hanka Robotics. He seeks then to take revenge for their actions on all those responsible for his "death".
Just by comparing the two antagonizing forces in the films you can clearly see that BR2049 doesn't even compare in terms of depth. And that is not say that GITS is an incredibly "deep" film, it's just that BR2049 is incredibly shallow.
And when you begin to compare the plots of the two films:
Replicant Blade Runner must find child replicant and destroy it vs. Cyborg operative must untangle a web of conspiracies to get to the bottom of recent assassinations, you can see how better of a script GITS had to work with.
And there is absolutely no character development in BR2049. On the other hand The Major, in GITS, is at war with herself and constantly questioning who she really is. The characters in GITS grow throughout the film, they have character arcs. That is what is meant by "character development". There is none of that in BR2049.
Basically everything?
>The "Villain" in BR2049 is barely even in the film and has no "character" or real motivation
>brainlet unironically thinks that movies need to have villains and actions and things to make his ADHD mind respond
GITS is literal capeshit, BR2049 is about a man who suffers and tries to become a real boy, and by the end, sacrifices himself for someone else.
less jewish actresses, no blacks, fewer whites, needed more asian-white muts (becouse asians love white aesthetics), no bilingual scenes, better story arc not of the movie but season 1 of the anime.
tahts about it
>because somehow he thinks this will be better for his business. It's totally nonsensical
Did you like even watch the film? You think he's after money?
> ScarJo GITS
no nudity
pg 13
made for family audience
shit vilain
Scarjo fat
shit director
shit producers
awful special effects
terrible cast
Everything wrong with GITS
>no blacks
>fewer whites
>no bilingual scenes
so you didn't watch BR2049 and are just a butthurt weeb? I mean you're right it's the better movie but still
>GITS is literal capeshit,
And it succeeds where most capeshit fails.
> BR2049 is about a man who suffers and tries to become a real boy, and by the end, sacrifices himself for someone else.
Which is neither interesting nor compelling in and of itself. In fact, it's pretty dull when you put it that way.
nah il go this Friday with my wife to watch it.
and everything i refereed to is critique of GITS
and every point stands on its own unchallenged in my opinion
>And it succeeds where most capeshit fails.
By bombing.
>Which is neither interesting nor compelling in and of itself
Maybe if you have ADHD and you can't handle long drawn out scenes
Notice how there is a disconnection between self sacrifice and suffering to be a real boy. Its like people think that just because you sacrifice yourself can make any character arc better.
>Maybe if you have ADHD and you can't handle long drawn out scenes
Lol no one mentioned that, you get no points for reaching.
He gives up after the purple hologram ad scene and only wants ford and his daughter to reunite.
Well it's true. You can't handle it.
Better body and hair than Scarlett Johansson
>By bombing.
By being moderately engaging and telling a hero's story coherently.
>Maybe if you have ADHD and you can't handle long drawn out scenes
I can handle them very well, but I don't think they were so much warranted in 2049. Unlike the original, which built atmosphere and engaged in world building, Blade Runner 2049 just seems like a film that needed a good editor. The film has very little atmosphere, or a sense of space, and has very little world building. Mostly it's Deakins waxing his wet digital noodle, which was nice for a while, but there wasn't a good story to bolster it.
>tfw movies like fate of the furious are huge block buster successes yet a movie like blade runner struggles to make money.
I hate people so much.
Wallace absolutely.
I cannot imagine another K other than the Goose, desu
>telling a hero's story coherently.
Then we're talking about two different films.
BR2)49 is about an NPC who does something. It shows that you aren't special.
>I can handle them very well
Then why you supporting ADD the movie?
Hi Razorfisting how are you?
people are giving leto a hard time
the guy was supposed to be disconected and creepy
kinda like future zuckerberg
2049 was a genuine, heartfelt sequel that took aspects of the original and tried to stay true to them while expanding them in sensible ways. GITS was just trying to make an anime palatable for American and Chinese moviegoers by dumbing down what was already a pretty basic story. I firmly believe if they had gone the full extra mile and made GITS into an original sci fi flick without the GITS name it might have been better received as an action sci-fi, maybe even pretty well loved by the average moviegoer.
It's just like with Death Note, it isn't a bad movie taken by itself, but why change so much shit just to suit a narrative for American audiences?
Scarlett was also a poor choice. I don't care that she's white, she's just not a very good actress. She's like a curvy Milla Jovovich without any of the charisma to make up for her total lack of acting ability.
one had a young, fit male with decent acting posing credibly as a conflicted killer synthetic human as the star
the other had a pudgy mother with saggy tits and no acting ability doing weird martial arts shit
gee i wonder what could go wrong
being a pleb: the post.
which thematically has nothing to do with being a real boy or having that sort of problem.
Probably is this. GitS wanted to compromise.
BR2049 is uncompromising.
>imax is £16 a ticket
I really want to see it again at an imax but fuck me.
Your meme arguments are making you look less and less intelligent by each post
Oh, I am fine with Leto too, actually.
Just I can see Fassbender as Wallace.
It was more a complement to the Goose on the Loose
GitS is a very competent movie in several respects. Gorgeous visually across the board, really stellar makeup/props/sets, mostly good casting (though I really could have done without ScarJo). Cinematography was decent.
The writing, however, was absolute unmitigated shit. I cannot believe how bad it was. I don't even need to elaborate on this because anyone who's seen the first five minutes knows exactly what I'm talking about. We're treated to a beautifully rendered recreation of the opening moments of GitS '95, and any hope that gave you for the film is smashed against the floor by the most awkward conversation in the world who's only purpose is to go I AM EVIL SHE IS A TOOL REEEEEEEE
In addition, it was supposed to be an adaptation of a very challenging, brutal and haunting film that asked hard, hard questions about where we might go as a species and the potential results of technologies that will very likely exist in the future, and this film doesn't have a single drop of that. Instead we get some wholly unrealistic shit about HOW YOU'LL ALWAYS BE YOU EVEN IF SOMEONE LITERALLY SCRAMBLES YOUR BRAIN SO YOU'RE NOT, which is something I'd expect from a fucking children's movie, and completely unacceptable.
>Then we're talking about two different films.
I'm not talking about two films. I'm talking about Ghost in the Shell in comparison to capeshit. Do try to follow the conversation.
>BR2)49 is about an NPC who does something. It shows that you aren't special.
Which isn't profound and contradicts the meaning of the original Blade Runner.
>Then why you supporting ADD the movie?
I'm not supporting anything. I think both GITS and BR2049 are mediocre. But the former at least hits the right notes. I've seen much more ADD stylized films than GITS, and just because you can appreciate slower films doesn't mean you can't also appreciate faster ones. It's not mutually exclusive.
This. This was one of Leto's better roles. Considering he was trying to make up for DAVID FUCKING BOWIE he did a fantastic job.
I'm a huge fan of Fassbender ever since X-men like most people, but he absolutely could not have portrayed K as well as the Goose did. Even as the supposedly less emotional David in Prometheus, he displays too much obvious emotion. He's not stoic enough.
He'd have nailed Wallace though.
>BR2049's characterizations
>Undeveloped
See the movie has real flaws but when someone makes a retarded complaint like this it's clear they're a fucking brainlet who doesn't even know what character development actually is, it's just a word they read people smarter than them write on the internet sometimes.
You'd think these people would have paid attention in fucking high school lit classes at least but I guess not.
>2049 was a genuine, heartfelt sequel that took aspects of the original and tried to stay true to them while expanding them in sensible ways. GITS was just trying to make an anime palatable for American and Chinese moviegoers by dumbing down what was already a pretty basic story.
I agree with this, but still think GITS is better. Again, it just had lower ambitions and managed to clear a lower hurdle than being a sequel to a masterpiece.
Imagine being this film illiterate but still posting on Sup Forums
>I'm talking about Ghost in the Shell in comparison to capeshit. Do try to follow the conversation
literally admitting to have moved the goalpost
Reading a lot of BR thread made me understand that a lot of people should go back to their teacher and say "you failed me"
If GiTs was confident about accurately adapting the source material, it'd have been nearly as good. They'd literally have to remake the animated movie frame-by-frame though.
GiTs really fucked up the tone, story and universe. It was frustrating to see how dumbed down it was so they could get 14yo murricans to understand it.
Btw it was not for you user, but to people like the one you answered to.
You're free to have that opinion, but I'm going to think less of you for it. Underachieving in art should never be rewarded, especially in today's day and age where it's already been given so much. They had a chance to make a REAL Ghost in the Shell movie, and instead they made a dumb action movie.
I just can't connect with you on this. BR2049's flaws don't outweigh the real high points of the film, just like the original BR. GITS on the other hand has no high points to offer in the first place.
I don't see that as respectable personally, but I'm not going to attack you because you do.
Let's face it, they wanted to make a female Robocop movie and did so under the guise of a GITS adaptation. This isn't real GITS. I wish they'd do a Netflix show that focuses on the cyber-crime-thriller aspects of Stand Alone Complex season 1 which was God-tier!!!FACT!!!
GitS is what Hollywood thinks cyberpunk is
BR2049 is what cyperpunk really is
I was hovering over the buy button considering the price for mine was £20. I decided to go through with it instead of regretting never being able to see it in imax again and forever watching it on blu ray.
>See the movie has real flaws but when someone makes a retarded complaint like this it's clear they're a fucking brainlet who doesn't even know what character development actually is, it's just a word they read people smarter than them write on the internet sometimes.
There is character development in Blade Runner 2049, but it is very thin. Some might mistake it as subtle, but it's not. What you have are hints at depth, but nothing substantial. Which characters do you really think are fleshed out in this movie?
>You'd think these people would have paid attention in fucking high school lit classes at least but I guess not.
I know more about movies and literature than you do, no offense. Try making an argument next time.
I wish we got to see David Bowie Wallace, that would have been perfect
>GiTs really fucked up the tone
That's the main difference. I am amazed how much tone-deaf most moviegoers are.
I do wonder if is quipping-induced desensitization.
>There is character development in Blade Runner 2049, but it is very thin.
The state of this fucking board.
ironically ghost in the shell had no soul
>And there is absolutely no character development in BR2049
??????????????????
BR2049 tried to be a watchable movie
GitS intent was always to defecate in the original material as much as possible
>Which characters do you really think are fleshed out in this movie
The movie's a fucking character study of K you idiot, who absolutely changes over the course of the film.
>I know more about movies and literature than you do, no offense. Try making an argument next time.
you literally don't even know what character development is
You're playing hard to get or your reading comprehension is shit. Either way, fuck off retard.
>You're free to have that opinion, but I'm going to think less of you for it.
Luckily I'm anonymous and I don't care about what people on a board that worship films like Drive and Ex Machina, think.
> Underachieving in art should never be rewarded
Who's rewarding anything here? I think both films are pretty mediocre.
>They had a chance to make a REAL Ghost in the Shell movie, and instead they made a dumb action movie.
They had a chance to make literally anything, and instead they chose to make a dumb sequel to Blade Runner. Oh well, guess you have to judge the product for its own merits and not for what could have been.
>I just can't connect with you on this. BR2049's flaws don't outweigh the real high points of the film,
It's high points aren't that high. Its flaws outweigh its unremarkable-ness.
> just like the original BR.
It's nothing like the original Blade Runner.
> GITS on the other hand has no high points to offer in the first place.
But it does a decent enough job telling a simple story.
>You're playing hard to get or your reading comprehension is shit. Either way, fuck off retard.
What's the topic of the thread again... ah. Yeah.
I don't give a shit about capeshit. We know is garbage.
the music was shit and the sets lacked any kind of subtlety
Feel free to jump in and make a point any time, boys.
>The movie's a fucking character study of K you idiot,
The movie isn't a character study, as there is very little to study in this case. Then again, maybe that's why the film falls flat. But no, it's not a character study, not anymore than GITS is a character study. Which it's not.
> who absolutely changes over the course of the film.
So? A character can have an arc and still be thinly written.
to bee h I still would prefer Fassbender to be Wallace instead of Bowie even if he was alive. He is a singer after all. His main film hes known for was labyrinthe lol. Also how the fuck did I not realise Bowie was Tesla in the prestige?! This shits cracking me up.
Ah well wait. You are the user of "there is thin character development"
wew, nevermind.
>>GITS is literal capeshit,
"And it succeeds where most capeshit fails. "
Moved here. The "capeshit" was to dismiss the movie because of the sloppy tone and characters. Any further move from there means derailment because there are no actual argument to defend GitS other than attack BR2049 literally making shit up ("no character development").
I was responding to these posts::
>GITS is literal capeshit
>And it succeeds where most capeshit fails.
Are conversations not allowed to diverge from the OP? Fuck off retard.
>Are conversations not allowed to diverge from the OP? Fuck off retard.
After "no character development" you have no ground to call anyone a retard, I am afraid.
Also, of course you can go off rails, is Sup Forums I guess, but don't pretend that you addressing the topic. You are literally making shit up.
Next time, just don't post anything?
>The "capeshit" was to dismiss the movie because of the sloppy tone and characters.
Understood. I took your slight and made a point out of it.
> Any further move from there means derailment
You could just realize you made a mistake and ignore it instead of playing Sup Forums thread Hitler.
> because there are no actual argument to defend GitS other than attack BR2049 literally making shit up ("no character development").
Projecting much?
Sorry goy, Jews are first in line for roles in (((Hollywood))).
>After "no character development" you have no ground to call anyone a retard, I am afraid.
Maybe if we were talking about Hamlet. We're not though. We're talking about some blockbuster of the month.
>Also, of course you can go off rails, is Sup Forums I guess, but don't pretend that you addressing the topic. You are literally making shit up.
I addressed the topic earlier in the thread, and I've been waiting for someone to say something substantial beyond playing the whole "WOW, YOU ARE SO DUMB, BLADE RUNNER 2049 IS OBVIOUSLY OF THE GREATS OF OUR TIME, HERE'S ANOTHER POST TELLING YOU HOW MUCH YOUR OPINION MEANS NOTHING" rhetorical mumbo jumbo.
Blade Runner 2049 nearly put me to sleep.
It fucking never ended.
Hello R3dditor.
Wow, you're a pleb who can't appreciate slow paced movies like Blade Runner and the Turin Horse. Stick with your ADD, Ritalin laced fast food happy meals.
Like a fly to honey every time.
Yes, it is a character study. Stop using words you don't know.
>Maybe if we were talking about Hamlet. We're not though. We're talking about some blockbuster of the month.
This means absolutely zero.
The movie is about the development of the protagonist. You are absolutely off-rails.
pretendingtoberetarded.jpg
Same desu.
It feels kinda shitty that all the amazing characters, setting, visuals, was completely ruined by the shitty pacing and pretty bleh plot.
This is a non-answer. Nothing of this makes sense.
Especially "projecting". Is completely out of place.
What the fuck?
