Dune is underrated, rather than get worse with age I think it has gotten better. Why do people hate this film so much?

I remember reading once some guy who was defending it saying every shot in the film is like a punch in the face. Hard to disagree - it looks incredible.

Because it is terrible.

kek I knew this would happen after the normies discovered Twin Peaks and went crazy for the shit third season

Dune is gay

I know David Lynch has since distanced himself from it but I agree every shot is fantastic.
(sorry for the low quality image)

Very Lynchian.

Indeed, plus the soundtrack is very good.

If you haven't read the book it's bizarre and impossible to absorb, If you have it's a pretty enjoyable trip back through the story with excellent visuals.

>shit third season
Brainlet detected

>terrible pacing
>wooden acting
>laughable special effects
but I guess in this age of capeshit is now a masterpiece

It's bizzare and typically Lynch if you're familiar with his other work. It's also fairly faithful to the source material. Though it does seem to polarise opinions a lot, most people seem to hate it or love it.

That is one of my criticisms of it, it feels as though it got butchered in the editing room as the pacing is well off.

The soundtrack is a highlight of this movie despite it's obvious flaws.

I really have no idea why people hate it so much. I guess if you really love the book you have to hate it because it's so different, but books are gay. Lynch's Dune has its problems but it's a fine sci-fi film, miles better than most Hollywood drivel.

...

Indeed, I'd rather Hollywood was producing more movies like Lynch's Dune than the constant capeshit we are served now.

...

the by far biggest problem of the film is this sound module crap
and that is not in the books, so an adaptation closer to the books must be better

Comfy Dune thread

I love the aesthetic of Lynch's Dune.

One of my favorite films ever, I can understand if you have no prior knowledge of the plot it is all over the place, but if you do its a really amazing attempt at the books. If you actually read Dune, you see how hard it is to make a coherent film of it.

Excited for what DV comes up with.

...

NOT IN THE MOOD?

Madsen is gorgeous beyond words

...

Pacing is the plebeian’s critique.

the miniseries were always great

I love this scene

When do we get a BR2049 tier remake of Dune and then an adaptation of the rest of the books?

>tfw you will never have a battle merry-go-round. .

...

came here to post this

best scene in the movie is expository voiceover. i love the way she fades in and out of the stars.

I love the cuboid force fields, much better than the typical circular/spherical fields.

I should...have listened...to Paul

Comfy

HMMM SHAI HULUD

Is Dune book considered book? I started reading it and it's literally an anime with incredibly special MC and future seeing powers. I don't mind anime but the same people that shit on anime praise dune which is something i find questionable.

...

Yet it still is important aspect seperating watchables from unwatchables

...

>calls it "literally an anime"
>is not literally anime
>is literature

The movie is unsatisfying because it begins as a good adaptation and then the last half is just someone going willy nilly with Dune motifs and trying to make a Star Wars killer.

The movie surrendered its integrity by adding guns.

...

Reminder that it was supposed to start a franchise à la Star Wars and shit like this and other merchandising was a thing at the time

It deviates from the books too much.
It can be appreciated in its own right, but as an adaptation of dune, the only bigger slap in the face to the franchise is the final book.

Ironically it was watching the movie as a kid that got me in to Dune in the first place.

What happened to the pupper? ;_;

i love how outlandish everything looks and feels. It really invoked the impression that this takes place in a far ass future which only seems like our medieval past but at the same time can travel across stars now and once had computers which had to be banned because they becamse sentinent or some shit and now humans must calculate shit. Also bloated navigators which look like whales with vagina mouth (but actually are still human), flying barons who bath in blood of younglings with heart-plugs... Man this was wonderfully fucked up. Never seen something as outlandish as this ever after. Even if it is a butchered adaption (I wouldn't know, I only sometimes read the lore, (Butlerian Jihad and Titans shit)) I still believe it captured the feeling of the universe best.

Regarding the Navigators; I liked Lynch's versions way more than the more "fishmen-like" ones in the TV Series. Looks like something out of a Cronenberg movie.

...

to this day dune still stands as the boldest blockbuster ever. it is literally one of my favorite films ever. the introductory harkonnens scene is borderline experimental filmmaking.

Dune and Alien 3 are two very underrated movies and I adore both of them. Call me a redditor, tell me I have shit tastes, I don't care you will never, ever change my mind, no matter how many insults you throw at me.

(OP)
>Why do people hate this film so much?

Probably because it's weird, and when it's not being it's grossing people out with scenes of Sting in his space-panties or the fat Baron Harpooner. That's what autocorrect decided to call him and I am fucking going with it. It's one of those cheesy and surreal products of its times not unlike Overdrawn At The Memory Bank.

I like this movie, and it's still hard not to see why others find it difficult to watch.

Also, I had this when I was a kid, which (for reasons I never questioned at the time, but that are now inexplicable to me as a grownup) tried to break this movie down so that children could follow it. I mean, it worked, I wore out my VHS tape of Dune back in the 80s.

>But Lynch put rain in the end credits and killed that idea like a rabid racoon on a chicken farm

...

>Why do people hate this film so much?

It's simple, the last half hour feels like several films crammed into something that resembles a long trailer.

Dune would have been an excellent trilogy, maybe have the first film end when Paul and his mother first finds the fremen in the desert, it was a pretty good shot, you see their shinning blue eyes and they're taken in the fremen's city, a great moment to stop and wait for a second film.

A lot of other people hate it because of what Jodorowsky wanted to make, while it'd have most definitely been a truly a great sci-fi film should Jodo had gotten the go ahead, it unfortunately causes that a lot of artsy kids hate Lynch's Dune more than what it really deserves.

...

>Wear sponge-suit in a desert
>Sweat, shit, and piss in it
>Fremen tell you to drink from the tube
>Actually drink the thighpad poo-poo water, you absolute madman!
>Feel terrible
>Mouth tastes like ass a dirt
>Die

What exactly did you think was going to happen?

the cut of dune we received should have been split into two different movies

normies can't stand something so long

everyone who had a good experience with doom was on some type of time wasting drug

...

Daily reminder that the Spacing Guild representatives are wearing modified bodybags left behind in an abandoned fire station that were used before to carry real corpses and the actors were told only after they had finished shooting.

Visually it is a brilliant film, Lynch nailed that aspect of it. Every shot is perfect.
The soundtrack is also fantastic.
Common criticisms such as bad paicing are valid in my opinion, it does feel as though it could have been edited better.
Saying that though I think most of the criticisms of it are unfair and it deserves more praise than it gets.

...

nice green screen

That entire scene was the most Lynchian part of it.

bad script, bad adaptation but very beautiful and stylish movie, totally watchable despite its flaws.

Father! Father, the sleeper has awakened!

Thank goodness it failed.
Successful merchandising is what led Star Wars to where it is today: a normalized glib facsimile of itself.
Dune (so far) has been immune to casual audiences because there are no tie-in comics, no toys, no t-shirts, and no cartoon series. There's the book series, which alienates most readers by the third installment and there all of about 5 Dune PC games, one of which is a porn parody, the rest of which are so antiquated as to be inaccessible to the modern gamer.

just saying though, the brian/kevin books are garbage

Not as good as the book but way better than Jodorowsky's Dune could ever have been but hipsters fellate themselves over that shitty documentary all the time.

Why do modern movies no longer have this?

youtube.com/watch?v=NjJPjAkLXS8

Practical effects and props will always be supreme, Lynch's Dune had some of the best effects and visuals from that era and it still looks stylish today.

Someone post Jessica, she was really hot

>Leto is through with you. He has no time for miners who drop their shipments at the first wormsign.

the porn parody is fucking 10/10

like seriously

i hope this thread because about the porn parody that first one was

and i hate this word but it was totally epic

dem boobs

I love that scene, the first time I watched Dune I knew I would like it. It sticks in the memory.
