Why does Roy Batty start howling like a wolf?

...

Duran Duran was popular at the time

Because the hunter had become the hunted.

He's trying to get in touch with his humanity. He's the most human character in the whole movie.

Because he’s batty :)

>save Harrison Ford's life so he can appear in shitloads of remakes in 30 years
>give deep speech
>release dove during death

He thought "if i can't find my humanity, then i'll find my wolvanity"

there was a full moon too. I generally think of it as an allusion to werewolfism, for two reasons.

The main one is that it evokes a sort of primal deep seated instinct you might generally associate with humanity rather than something that has no strict genetic ancestry. So we see has this beastliness and drive for survival that is quintessentially human and kind of quintessential of all life. The other thing is the duality of man. Savage, no empathy creatures like Roy and Deckhard finding their human side in an animal struggle.

hungry like the wolf

many thanks

There was this very cool fan theory that all replicant's personalities were based on archetypes or totems related to animals according to their function. Leon was a tortoise (carrier), Raechel a dog (pet), Batty a wolf (hunter, soldier), Deckard a unicorn (blade/horn runner), Zhora a snake (commando/assasin), Pris a cat (sex slave/hooker)...

...

Because he is a lonely wolf by the time.

>Why does Roy Batty start howling like a wolf?

because he thought it would look cool and he wanted to impress deckard.

rach would be the owl

It was actually just howling like a dog. It was an allusion to "man's best friend", a sort of joke about how the Replicants were designed to be submissive and loyal humans, not to mention dumber. The added irony that they were designed completely in humanity's image was probably a thought that he had on his mind for awhile.

He was making obvious to Deckard that he was prey
