Common misconception. The show is NOT scripted. I'm not sure whether the release says "Comedy Central" or its parent company, but 99% of people do not realise they're on a comedy show. The only person who did was the exterminator, and he just played along once he realised.

None of them are in on the joke. He weeds out people who catch on. You have to remember these people are busy running a business and often of an older generation (gas station guy, ghost realtor, etc). They don't have the time or inclination to research what he's about. Plus they're in LA so they're used to cameras and shows being around all the time. The reactions are far too authentic to be fake, he didn't just gather 100+ of the best actors on the planet who also happen to be small business owners
