>2009, Kimura captures X-23, immediately starts cutting off parts with the ol' chainsaw >2017, Kimura captures X-23, puts her in the 'combination sensory-deprivation tank and iron maiden'
Has Kimura lost her touch? Or are comics just not allowed to show pretty girls being dismembered anymore?
Anthony Murphy
>Or are comics just not allowed to show pretty girls being dismembered anymore? It's probably more of this, but I can imagine that Kimmy must get bored with chainsaws after a while. Gotta mix it up after a while.
Noah Howard
feels like we're slowly heading back to the days of the comics code
Dominic Butler
Kimura torturing Laura was just her having fun Making literally feel nothing but pain for 168 hours had a purpose since she wanted her as angry as possible when she freed her.
Isaac Allen
Ok I just want to know, am I the only one who finds some kinky undertones to the interactions between Laura and Kimura?
Camden Ross
I'm pretty sure Kimura's in love with Laura. In like a weird way.
Josiah Johnson
You are not the only one. Kimura loves to Dom and torture Laura. Someone please show her some Kink.com and Insex videos.

Look buddy, you don't spend a cool half billion creating a regenerating teenage girl and not act out your kidnapping, guro, feral, mindbreak, mommydom fetishes on her as often as possible. X-23 should count herself lucky Kimura hasn't been introduced to Spiral yet.
Blake Price
Sup Forums would just call it "edgy shit" anyway.
Ian Perez
Refresh my memory, has Laura ever met Spiral yet?
Sebastian Lee
What annoys me more is how twice now Emma's mind wipes have been retconned without an explanation.
Matthew Davis
Emma put a psychic command on her to kill all the Facility project leaders, right? Didn't Kimura already fulfill that? So she's now free to be a crimelord in Madripoor or whatever?
Ayden Diaz
Spiral was a member of the Sisterhood when they attacked the X-men in San Francisco. I think X-23 was busy fighting Chimera and her dragons though
Dylan Price
It was supposed to be a wrap on why she doesn't continually try and kill her over and over, it doesn't make sense in that context that she would just return to the same obsession once she was finished.
Dylan Howard
It's all a plan to lure out Emma so Kimura can out-dom her.
Jaxson Garcia
It's cause Emma's powers can't get in the way of true love

Newsflash, the more popular your medium gets, the safer it has to be.
Xavier Lewis
is it more popular tho? everyone around here is constantly saying how that marvel is failing
Adrian Wood
Comics are now pseudo-popular. The characters are popular because of the movies but the comics themselves are read by an incredibly small percentage of the population.
Just sticking with Marvel for the sake of comparison:
December 2016's most sold book for Marvel was IVX at 167,703 units. Then came Civil War II at 105,658 Starwars at 104,563 Star Wars Doctor Aphra at 99,067 Hulk at 89,810 etc, you can look up the entire list yourselves.
Marvel's last movie, Doctor Strange, made $231,292,720 in just the US. A total of $659,237,554 if you include international. It was released into 3,882 theaters over the course of 11 weeks to get those numbers.
One movie from Marvel makes way more then one comic, and will have a massively larger audience. Comic readership is counted in the hundreds of thousands; movie viewership is counted by the tens of millions. Hell even the Star Wars comics barely even get to 100k while the movies are seen by almost everyone with access to civilization.

That was always fucking nonsensical. Emma could have permanently disarmed her. Just removed every aggressive impulse. Instead she just made her even more angry.
Comic book writers are retards.
Carson Powell
There's something about how comics' used to be a long-time commitment (and demanding consistent effort to stay on-topic) whereas movies not so much. With the bullshit "universes" it might be shifting, but will never be like how the comics' are.
Also, there's the perspective of how each medium is perceived by the general public. Movies are entertainment suited for everybody and comics' are very much still trivialized. The "advent" of "nerd culture" (it hitting mainstream) made it acceptable for general, uneducated (in the topic of said entertainment) audience to go to and enjoy comic book movies, but that would never mean the same audiences getting to read comic books. If anything, it would mean the opposite because why would they waste time getting into this shit, when they have everything nicely lied down on a silver screen platter?
Does it even makes sense.
Zachary Anderson
Really? I thought that it fit Emma's character. She is a complete and utter vengeful bitch at the end of the day. She will ruin and wreck everyone who hurts people she cares for. Even if there are better ways, she'll do the thing that will hurt the most. It's why she is interesting.
Julian Cook
I've always thought in a weird way, Kimura's empathized with Laura. After all, from the sound of it, she didn't have the best childhood, railroading her into the killer she became.
So to her Laura, was in a weird way, a reflection of her. I honestly headcanon that she wants to make Laura hers. She wants to ruin and wreck her life, kill her partners, family, anyone who would take Laura away from her. Because, with Laura by her side, Kimura won't be alone.
Bentley Thompson
Taylor just wants to write a fun adventure book with fun interactions. He doesn't want to write a violent Wolverine book. Let alone a violent, introspective X-23 book. You can tell that he is just blowing through this current Facility arc as fast as possible to get back to his previous MO of just writing pointless fluff. I wouldn't mind him leaving the book. But as it turns out, he stays for another year. I'm still not angry at him, just really, really bored.
Kevin Ortiz
Wasn't this the last time we saw her?
Gavin Murphy
Nah, X-Force was way after this.
Mason Cooper
>So to her Laura, was in a weird way, a reflection of her. I honestly headcanon that she wants to make Laura hers. She wants to ruin and wreck her life, kill her partners, family, anyone who would take Laura away from her. Because, with Laura by her side, Kimura won't be alone.
That's some freaky Batman x Joker tier shit...but makes perfect sense. Will there be hand holding?
Ryan Gray
You've just hit the nail on the head as to why the Wolverine book isn't doing anything for me. I mean, objectively, it is better than books like Extraordinary and All-New, but unlike those books, I don't feel angry or annoyed or anything of the sort when I finish. I mainly just feel mildly entertained. Like I watched something like old-school Simpsons. It isn't a bad one, just not one I think a book Laura is should contain.
I mean, I don't mind happy stories because Laura needs some good stuff in her life. I just wished that they touched on some of the darker stuff that her earlier works did. The whole 'being human stuff' which could be both hilarious and depressing. I also would like it if the New X-Men guest starred in her book because it has been too fucking long and I want them back goddamn. But, my rage at losing one of the best teen teams for the O5 and Champions aside, I just wish that this felt like a Laura book. Because aside from the last few issues, it hasn't really. Though I am not sure how much of that can be blamed on Bendis and Hopeless, rather than Taylor.
Christopher Morgan
Kimura's not doing this because somebody's paying her. She's doing it for fun.
Basically, Kimura is Laura's Sabretooth.
Charles Richardson
Maybe. Mainly it would be Kimura dominating Laura though. Any hand holding would be to reinforce that.
A few NSFW ideas. After Laura killed, Kimura would take her into the wash room, to lovingly wash her while whispering that Laura was perfect. For her own amusement, Kimura would spread lick and place butterfly kiss Laura's muscular body as the latter lay in bed, unable to defend herself due to be bonds that Kimura placed on the bed.
Lincoln Jenkins
It's boring to see the same shit and have the same shit done to you. I say the chamber is a step up
Cooper Martin
X-23 stories have always been pretty emotional. Inbetween despair, disgusting violence, utter emotional turmoil and the struggle to overcome all of this, you also found the occasional bits of fun or very dry humour that keep you attached to the character. This is the stuff that hooks you in.
Laura shouldn't just be fighting against captivity or for her life. As a reader, we know she's gonna make it. Instead, she should be fighting for the life she's built herself. She should be fighting for those around her and her own soul. A writer should threaten everything she's achived so far. That's the actually engaging part.
Taylor just fails to deliver this, mainly, because he has never actually delved into that darkness. I don't believe that anything he writes could actually carry consequences. Laura getting turned into a mindless killing machine again by Kimura should feel terrible for what it means for her mental health, her relation to her friends and family and so on and so forth. But I just can't buy that from Taylor because he wouldn't want to deal with any of that. I don't have the impression that he'd go there.
And gee I wonder fucking why.
>one of the most deadly assassins on earth is back and in full murder mode >kills a single person >person is an LMD >immediately her friends show up and stop her >and then they lived happily ever after
Not even maximum murder X-23 manages to do anything of consequence in this book. Nothing in this book has stakes.
Jeremiah Edwards
Pretty much a more overall torture instead of just a physical one that Laura would eventually deaden herself to, as Logan has done many times.
Isaiah Parker
I agree, it's the same mental shit that fucked Kimura up in the long run. Physical on 23 seems entry level for someone who spends her days healing wounds on her body like nothing but struggling with her mental shit
Dominic Rivera
>Kimura is still alive Why? She's a shitty villain and a shitty character.
Carson Hernandez
For torture porn, duh, not that we would get any this time it seems.
Connor Ross
Well, did she accomplish the job of killing all her bosses? Emma probably figured that would be worth letting her survive, if it meant getting rid of all those guys.
Elijah Robinson
Pretty sure secret war took care of that
Daniel Morgan
You're forgetting about how Emma was recently reformed at the time, having turned into just another good girl among Xavier's ranks. You remember how later on she even opted for sparing Shaw's life by going through excessive lengths? And that was Shaw, Emma's own version of Kimura. This is just another example of her trying to spare the most lives possible... even if it seemed more cruel... which is her motivation for when she tried to reject Laura from the school, Laura was a threat and Emma had seen too much death by then. Sending away the professional killer girl would have been safest thing for everyone, even if she looks cruel doing it. The days of Emma Frost sending Hellions out on dangerous criminal missions is long past. So what use would she have for an "X-23"? She's clearly no longer this bloodthirsty murderess that you think she is.
Adrian Thomas
Pretty much this. If I was lucky enough to write Laura's solo, I would dive into her mind and try to show how she thinks and the difference between that and how she talks.
For example, I would run with Hopeless' explanation about why Laura talks like she's a regular girl now, but try to make it something a bit better. Do something like say that Laura was so afraid of being rejected that she felt that if she put on the mask of what has now become 'The All-New Wolverine', she'd escape her past. The whole charging headfirst, ask questions later would be her trying to go against her programming and doing what she saw people like Logan doing all the time.
The whole point of her book would be Laura realizing that she can't escape it. She did what she did and she is the person she is. However, one of the things I would show is that she isn't alone and their were people who would help her. For example, I'd have her team up with AA and New X-Men kids by accident. Kind of coincidental team up with Laura feeling desperately awkward and wanting to get away.
Hell, in a facility arc like the one currently occurring, the New X-Men would be the ones to save Laura instead of Gambit and Gabby.
Basically, my hypothetical run would be my attempt to try and turn Laura into what Claremont's Wolverine was while keeping true to her original characterization. A loner who has a dark past that is slowly coming out their shell and is benefiting from it.
Grayson Thomas
I don't think that's the case with Emma at all. She tries to be good, she really does. Especially after M-Day when she realized how screwed the X-Men were. However, Emma is mentally fucked up just about as much as Laura is.
The whole act with Kimura actually felt very fitting, because at that point, you realized just how much Emma cared for the kids. Before and after this, the Hellions' and Emma's relationship had all but disintegrated.
Julian felt like she had abandoned him, Mercury didn't think that Emma cared about anyone anymore and Santo... was Santo. The point was that in the New X-Men run, Emma's protective side was fully brought out. You saw just how much she cared about the kids under her care.
To her, Kimura deserved the worse punishment possible for hurting Laura, Julian and Cess. Because it seems that she cared more for them than she did for pragmatism. As for her encounter with Shaw, it seemed like Emma was fighting her every urge to kill him for what he had done.
Brayden Hall
After this shit run I'd just like to see Laura back with x-force with the explanation that her social gig wasn't really working out and she wanted to spend some time in an environment she feels natural in.
Noah Wood
It depends on the way it's done. I'd say that if something like that was written it would have to be seen as positive that Laura is trying to be true to herself but negative if the team was a kill squad as it would just increase her psychological issues. I mean it can be a good story but it shouldn't be written so that it seems all Laura works as is a killing machine.
Jose Allen
It's killing machine or prostitute user. Those are her only humble beginnings

That's an oxymoron. If it does one then it cannot be the other. It's like getting a blonde wig that is black.
Carter Garcia
I really like this interpretation. The ironic thing is, Kimura could have had little Laura's loyalty just by bringing her a bag of chocolates every successful kill. Or some other minimum effort throw-the-dog-a-bone thing.
But nope! It's gotta be all the punishments all the time.
