Howard asked for a ridiculous amount of money for the sequel and refused to budge so they recast him. Kind of a shame. Don Cheedle is a good actor but Howard had the better look and fit the role better. Don just looks too old. Dude looks like he's mummifying more and more with each movie

Sounds like an entitled prick desu but in all fairness Iron Man 2 wouldn't have sucked as hard if it was Howard instead of Cheadle. I only watched this yesterday after watching the first one the night before and that recast really bothered me.

Ironically, Howard actually had more chemistry with RDJ. I thought Cheadle was gonna get better with time but he never did

When they were making the first IM, RDJ was a big fucking risk to be cast in the lead role. Terrance Howard was literally the biggest current "star" in the film, so he was paid the most. After the huge success of IM, Marvel was more sure of their plans for the MCU, so they started renegotiating contracts. RDJ got more (and rightly so), Terrance Howard literally just wanted to keep what he was making in IM 1. This was before Disney bought Marvel, and they were run by a notoriously cheap studio exec. He then recast Cheadle and paid him less than Howard.

Yeah its always felt like Cheadle didn’t care much about the movies. Like he just sees them as dumb kid movies and he’d rather be doing more important work. Maybe that’s wrong but that’s how I always saw his performance.

Anyway Howard actually made more money than RDJ for the first Iron Man, because Downey was so down on his luck at that time and was known as a washed up drug addict.
