Stand up is shit

Can we stop pretending that standup is the highest form of comedy when spontaneous conversations on radio and podcasts are so much funnier?

GO ON NAH!

Who is pretending?

The worst form of comedy is clearly improv but stand-up is pretty bad, yeah.

maybe you haven't seen a good comedian in a while

show me one

What are the best comedy podcasts? Preferably ones that aren't filled with sjw faggots, which would obviously make them unfunny.

Rip Big Patrice

chip chipperson podcast

Stand up has been dead for at least 12 years now. It's just one of those things we lost in the digital age. It's out of place in the modern experience to go to a club or lounge and listen to someone tell jokes. As a result, it feels like an anachronism to watch a recording of someone doing just that.

Whats weird is that there has never been more amateur comedians trying to enter

Wrong. Improv can be hilarious if done well with funny people willing to push buttons, but it also can be incredibly cringey/pointless I'll give you that

>I actually wasted money taking improv classes at Second City
>I got kicked out after making a tranny joke
Fucking hell

Former comedian here. Stand-up comedy is dead. It's next to impossible to sit there listening to some dickhead after spending $20 for tickets, parking and drinks while you have the entirety of human creation and every comedy performance ever in your hand.

Also comedy has blown it's own brains out. Because unless you're some far leftist who spews establishment bullshit, you'll never make a living at it. So now everyone sounds the same and it's just trash. Out of the thousands of comedians I've watched with my own eyes, I'd say only two were actual geniuses and worth the time. The rest were varying degrees of egotistical mental illness.

I think people like Carlin, Bruce, Pryor, Kinison, Newhart, Cosby and the pantheons of stand-up were absolute pure genius. But stand-up now is just awful.

I just don't think it can exist in the internet age. Humanity itself has updated to the point that you'll see hundred funnier things in a day on the internet and to just sit there and listen to people try for 90 minutes is grating.

Agreed. It's all been done before

Norm Macdonald live season 1 and 2

also listen to old O&A episodes on youtube

archive.org/details/200932NOpieAntPatriceDeRosaI

at least with standup it's only one person. on O&A, and all the stupid podcasts that exist now, you'll have 9 people talking at the same time. and half of them will just be random fucking assholes who happen to be around. 90% of what they say will be interjections like "oh FUCK BRO" and "that's crazy". it's totally unacceptable, in the context of any kind of entertainment. it's like recording a bunch of guys at a bar and then playing it back later

Very depressing

>Because unless you're some far leftist

*deep sigh*
OK, let's have another alt-right thread. how have the SJWs fursecuted you this time, oh brave kekkistanni?

If you want to see depressing, go to a comedy open mic in your city. Just because it's dead doesn't mean that there isn't tens of thousands of people still trying to do it.

It's like watching a parade of the mentally ill at a comedy open mic. You'll see one or two comedians who are kind of funny. You'll see a couple of people who are trying. And the rest are just completely fucked up human beings.

What?

in a roundabout way it becomes funny again

Not him but let's not make this another Sup Forums thread, no one is talking about the "alt-right" fag. but if you ever go to a comedy club you'll find almost every comedian has a liberal slant nowadays. Almost nobody is a full on sjw boogeyman that Sup Forums is scared of but it's a problem because almost everyone has the same act. It gets old real fast.

>Almost nobody is a full on sjw boogeyman

You should see what west coast comedy is like. You guys have no idea what's lurking under the surface or what cancer killed that business.

*deep sigh*
Nice bait.

>soooo.....I've been using Tinder recently......*vocal fry intensifies*

You get that no one outside of your bubble is fond of you, right, faggot?

>t. Never saw Curb Your Enthusiasm
>t. Never saw It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia

How wrong you are.

Where on the west coast are you bro? LA isn't that bad, I've seen similiar acts in Chicago. I would say it's about the same.

The other thing about standup comedy and this is something virtually no one understands. It's primarily about money laundering. Especially at virtually all the lower levels. The talent on stage is largely irrelevant unless you have a name who can pack a house just on their drawing ability. However this reality plus the sheer lunatic leftism now demanded in comedy has ensured that comedy has pretty rotted from the inside out to the point there's new talent worth anything and the whole thing killed itself.

I was a hardcore liberal two-time Obama voter until I watched all this stuff first hand and figured out how it all worked. Now I think it's evil.

I think he means the weird Ponzi schemes like UCB and not improvisation within TV shows

Was based out of the Northwest area.

LA is legit because that's where the talent migrates on the west coast and it's so soulless that not a lot of that intense bullshit is there. But only shit, when you get into towns like Seattle or Portland that have nothing going for them so they play king of the mountain over who's the most leftist and who can get their names in the socialist street rags, it's quite an experience.

Wypipo tho

podcasts are the future of comedy

second city in Toronto??

damn..story pls?

I'd argue that newhart and (((bruce))) aren't really that funny.

A lot of girls I see on tinder are doing stand up comedy now.

Bruce is super archaic now but I think when he was clear minded and at his peak, he was extremely talented. But there was definitely a lot of crap from him, especially when he went nuts. However I absolutely love his rhythm and that Jewish hipster way of speaking he'd talk in.

I agree with you, I don't think Newhart is that funny as a standup. I added him mainly because I like him so much as a TV writer.

>tfw no more based Eddie era

Yea because those two guys are hilarious. Are you not well?

No, Chicago actually
>take introduction level improv class
>everyone is very nice albeit extremely liberal
>we all build a good relationship within the class
>one day doing a 2 person exercise where you begin by pantomiming an action and your partner comments on it and establishes the scenario
>I see my partner and think she is peeing at a urinal
>I stand next to her look over and say
>"Whoa! The doctors are doing great work nowadays. But when are you getting 'that' done next"
>turns out she was pretending to be putting
>everyone freaks out
>my partner gets in my face and asks what do I mean
>I tell her I thought she was transexual
>tranny classmate steps up
>"Why Is that funny? You know you shouldn't be joking about the trans community "
>beta orbiters get in my face, trying to start shit
>teacher steps in
>says they do not tolerate any type of discrimination and recommends I leave
>I leave

I didn't think anything of it but I should have realized something was up when I noticed they had gender neutral bathrooms

>Improv can be hilarious if done well with funny people
Which is rarely, 99.9% of improv is fucking diabolical.

Both scripted shows, Curb with a skeleton script until season 7 and fully scripted since then. How wrong you are, fuckwit.

What do you mean diabolical? I've done tons of improv games with buddies and it's almost always funny if you work off each other well

Are these guys Run the Jewels

I'm going to be blunt, you don't sound funny. Don't bother responding I don't care

This most certainly is RTJ

Why

It's fun for the people participating but holy fuck if it isn't an eternal suffering to have to be on the public on an improv show.

Sounds like destiny saving you pal, at least it happene early on and not on stage posted online and have it wreck you.

anyone else really bothered when a comedian tells an either obviously made-up story or one that happened to someone else that they're reframing as their own?

it seems so disingenuous and scummy

C U M T O W N

legion of skanks

t. failed comic

I don't think the main objective of stand up is the comedy, it's more like a struggle between the one man standing and the audience. For example, Carlin who I wouldn't consider "funny" but he is entretaining as fuck and in the other side there is Kramer's nigger disaster.

I could compare it to bull fighting, with less blood.

Yeah this, just wanted to add that second opinion just to help a fellow user. The problem with your joke is that she's obviously having no trouble peeing so why does it go to your head that she wants to be trans? So it's kind of transphobic but in an unfunny way.

Maybe if you said you know it'd be a LOT easier if you had THAT done and she'd say something funny she came up with or something like that's okay I like boobs.

You probably don't have the tact to make it without getting in serious trouble. It can be life or death these days be careful.

Big Jay looks like such a fucking dork, stupid earing, dumb spiked wristbands, chains around his shoes, fingerless gloves, stonewashed jeans, fucking ew.

I like Big Jay but that's only because I like his appearances on Ron and Fez, the single finest comedy radio show ever by the way, and I like that he is good friends with Chris "Pepper Hicks the Centaur" Stanley

ugh die, legion of skanks is horrid.
