How can this really be interpreted besides Scorsese and Schraders own interpretation of the idea of a Christ figure in their minds. I know it's not based on the gospel and that at the beginning it says it's about the ""fictional exploration of the eternal spiritual conflict between the flesh and the sprit" but I just don't see how the story works on that level, it's not like it's easy to relate to Jesus' journey or really take anything from it espically the ending. The only thing you can really take away from this movie is the interpretation of Christ as a flawed human troubled in his life by fear and intense headaches not an angelic godlike being that knows all of the answers of his path in life. I also really liked the way they portray Judas, sometimes i found him to be more of an interesting character than Jesus and his character is the only one that is a really accurate portrayal of the gospel according to the long lost gospel of judas that was only recently discovered a couple years before the movie was made. TLDR Loved the movie I just don't see how it doesn't work as anything but Schraders and Scorseses interpretation of Jesus

really? it's really simple
christ martyring himself is more meaningful, because it wasn't something he really wanted to do but he did it to save humanity
he allowed himself to be the ultimate scapegoat in the hope that people would stop scapegoating each other
it's just a lot more nuanced than the bible version which was very heavy-handed
This is what I thought too especially because the screenplay is written by a graduate of Calvin college which is a Christian college I just don't see how the story works without it being his view of Christianity I don't see how anyone with completely no knowledge of Christian theology could enjoy the movie

just the thread I was looking for.
no shit it's their interpretation, just like anyone's imagined man in the sky is their own particular brand of nonsense
I didn't really get anything from that video user you barely talked about TLTC and 75% of the video was just a rant on Star Trek movies I haven't watched and don't give a shit about. You don't like Christianity as a philosophy, that's about the extent of your analysis it just annoys you that someone would make a movie about it which doesn't really have anything to do with me since I like Christianity. Also you mumble a lot you should work on that in future videos I don't mean to discourage you but you should probably try to explain why your opinion matters instead of just stating your opinion. You should create videos with the mindset that most people are going to disagree with you so you are forced to present your best arguments to the forefront. I'm going to dislike your video for wasting my time and for basically clickbaiting your title, sorry user but I do it out of love I will be like your judas instead of your peter. I will pray for you user. I love you
I think that's how it's supposed to read. Scorsese isn't the most orthodox filmmaker.
t. christfag
I love you too
the scene with the synthesizer as he recruits apostles is dope
We'll maybe I could've got something from the video if you didn't mumble the whole way through I watched it with big over the ear headphones and had the volume turned all the way up and I still couldn't understand you at some points. Yes I'm Christian tho so maybe I'm biased I am humble man I have the courage to admit that my son
Right so was the warning at the beginning Scorsese trying to preemptively quell the shitstorm that it would inevitably cause? A movie theater got burned down because of this movie and a couple people got severe burns over in France
Epic
it is based on a very famous book
by the Greek orthodox writer Nikos Kazantzakis
It is essentially about the duality of Christ, part God, part human. I think the sympathetic portrayal of Judas comes from that faith as he is seen as an essential part of the. whole Crucifixion and Resurrection.
I have read the book and the movie is a faithful adaptation.
>it's not like it's easy to relate to Jesus' journey
we all have to learn to trust in gods plan and put ourselves up on the alter for the highest good. if we dont itll be as if jesus didnt die for us, everyone will suffer. This is probably the most relatable jesus on film. And it even concludes with it be an allegory, because he ends up on the cross like he's suppose to and mankind is saved
It's BvS if Superman was actually Jesus.
Thanks for the analysis man that makes a lot of sense
Judas was so based in this movie that speech at the end of Jesus' Dream sequence where he's talking some sense into him was beautiful at that moment Judas seemed like he mightve been god himself the whole time and Harvey does a great job playing him
Yeah I fucking loved that scene and then for Jesus, on his death bed, to crawl all the way back to the cross to be crucified made me almost believe.......
It's not about just believing if you have the heart to be moved by something like that than I believe you have the heart to enter the kingdom of god even Jesus struggled with his faith in the beginning
Kill yourself eminine butthurt faggot.
Uridon is /ourguy/
I don't hate the young lad that video was just a huge waste of time he didn't even discuss why it was better, maybe I would've liked it more if he just said chopped the why out of his title
is that the green goblin
