Show me a better moment from Star Wars
When Boyega asked Rey if she had a boyfriend.
Anyone else noticed the uptick in RotJ shilling lately? comfiest SW movie =/= best SW movie
Always loved the music in this scene.
>set is blandly lit
>Mark Hamill just swinging his saber around like a baseball bat
>Vader takes a knee for no reason
>Sheev wants Luke to go to the dark side, but points out he's going to the dark side every time Luke starts to use the dark side thus reminding Luke not to go to the dark side
George Lucas decided to cut out the subplot where Vader wants to overthrow the Emperor so that the surprise ending wouldn't be ruined
The Music is the only good part of this scene.
this just in: star wars movies have always been, and will always be shit. All of them. It's a fascinating universe for kids, and adult autists alike, sure. But as movies they're just an embarrassement.
...
He also asked whether or not he was cute.
>George Lucas decided to cut out the subplot where Vader wants to overthrow the Emperor
He literally says to Luke at the end of ESB that together they can overthrow the Emperor.
>He literally says to Luke at the end of ESB that together they can overthrow the Emperor.
Yeah, and then in ROTJ (the movie we are all currently having a discussion about) Vader never mentions it again.
>comfiest SW movie =/= best SW movie

Fuck you, Abrams.
all of his work is like that, lost, fringe, star wars etc.
meaningless buildup with no payoff, just swinging a carrot in front of the dumb audience
How does he keep getting work?
like episode IX
his trick works
OP u are correct. That is the best scene.
Basically no scene can match the Vader/Luke/Emperor scene in the death star.
Fact.
Empire > Jedi
Death Star Duel > Cloud City Duel
Prove me wrong. Protip you really can't
ROTJ made the force very christian and it lacks substance because of it.
How can anyone prove your opinion wrong?
YAWN! Boring, gramps.

I think i've fallen in love with my gf during that scene when she start sobbing (way before Padme probably realizing what was going to happen)...she looked so defensless and genuinely destroyed by the fact this "dark side" was so strong that Anakin turned against Padme despite the ammount of love they feel for eachother...watching her reaction, my heart cracked into pieces.
OP is right, this scene makes my spine tingle. I also love the super hard cut from Han and Leia by the bunker to Luke and Vader mid duel, you know what I'm talking about.
if not b8 pls kys
>Set is blandly lit
Luke is literally hiding in the dark at the beginning of the scene
>Mark Hamill just swinging his saber around like a baseball bat
Was him shouting out in anger and despair after being goaded and the follow-up dialogue with the Emperor about him taking his father's place not a good enough indicator that Luke had just fucking flipped out? Angry people do unrefined violent shit
>Vader takes a knee for no reason
Come on nigga losing your footing is a concept that exists, was him grabing ahold of the rail to steady himself lost on you
>Sheev wants Luke to go to the dark side, but points out he's going to the dark side every time Luke starts to use the dark side thus reminding Luke not to go to the dark side
It's almost like his overconfidence is his weakness or something!
>George Lucas decided to cut out the subplot where Vader wants to overthrow the Emperor so that the surprise ending wouldn't be ruined
Vader intimates that he still has some feeling for his son because even if he won't join him under the emperor then maybe he'll join him as his son at the end of the second film
At the end of the trilogy Vader shows us evil can be redeemed and that his love for his son won out in the end, where's the problem here?
If he gets to capture his son and have him train under the Emperor then he gets both, but obviously when it came down to it and he had to choose he chose to save the life of his son
it's ok alright stop nitpicking
you guys are overthinking it
Luke gets pissed off, beats up Dad, then remembers being pissed off is the Dark Side and he doesn't want to end up like robodad
no b8 empire is boring as fuck m8
>>Set is blandly lit
>Luke is literally hiding in the dark at the beginning of the scene
If you pay attention Luke isn't actually hidden at all. He standing right behind the staircase which is not dark at all. It's a camera trick and it looks like ass.
He's doing it before he loses his cool. That whole fight is poorly choreographed
>>Vader takes a knee for no reason
>Come on nigga losing your footing is a concept that exists, was him grabing ahold of the rail to steady himself lost on you
He doesn't even lose his footing though. He dips under Luke's saber and then just leans up against the railing. He doesn't even literally "take a knee" he just gets sleepy.
>>Sheev wants Luke to go to the dark side, but points out he's going to the dark side every time Luke starts to use the dark side thus reminding Luke not to go to the dark side
>It's almost like his overconfidence is his weakness or something!
I'll give you this. Palpatine being retarded on purpose is at least believable.
>>George Lucas decided to cut out the subplot where Vader wants to overthrow the Emperor so that the surprise ending wouldn't be ruined
>Vader intimates that he still has some feeling for his son...
In TESB Vader wants Luke to join him so that they can overthrow the Emperor. In ROTJ this is not his plan. This is called an inconsistency. GL even admits to dropping this subplot in The Making of ROTJ (2013) so it's not like I'm just making it up.
>which is not dark at all.
>Luke is literally hiding in the dark at the beginning of the scene
God, they couldn't even get a light for the main actor? So fucking cheap.
>Come on nigga losing your footing is a concept that exists, was him grabing ahold of the rail to steady himself lost on you
Sounds like a real clumsy fuck but oh this guy is supposed to be a threat? What?
>It's almost like his overconfidence is his weakness or something!
It's not even overconfidence. The Emperor has nothing to tempt Luke with, even though he could easily say "hey, if you turn to the Dark Side, we'll spare your pals, I'll let Han and Leia and Chewie and even the Ewoks live on a lush mansion on Coruscant under house arrest." Instead we get nothing.
>If he gets to capture his son and have him train under the Emperor then he gets both, but obviously when it came down to it and he had to choose he chose to save the life of his son
But his plan was to kill the Emperor so he and his kid can rule as "father and son." But then oh no in Jedi he's now suddenly super loyal to Sheev, even though he was planning to kill him last film. Why didn't Vader just go "okay Luke, let's jump Sheev" and then him and Luke could figure it out over Empie's corpse. Keep in mind, Luke had no intent to kill Vader, so even if he refused to join the Dark Side, Vader would still be alive.

originalfags utterly BTFO
Obviously Empire, you faggot.
>>set is blandly lit
Great taste user, this sequence is one of the best in the movie, especially where it slots in and just keeps the pace moving so well

Autism is acting like some boring kiddie movie has any artistic merit. It doesn't. It's a fucking toy commercial, and not a good one.

No, I just grew the fuck up. I invite you to do the same.

>No, I just grew the fuck up
user said he grew up, but him still posting on Sup Forums determined that was a lie
star wars has gone from something i loved to completely unwatchable for me. thanks disney and reddit.
>No, I just grew the fuck up.
>arguing about a fantasy movie on Sup Forums
Why didn't they do back flips?
The only big problems I have with this sequence are, like this guy said, the Emperor basically reminding Luke that he just defeated Vader by using his anger, thus snapping him out of his rage, and the sound design fuck-up with Vader's respirator already sounding like it was badly damaged even though that's supposed to happen later when he gets hit by Sheev's lightning. Other than that, it's glorious.
I read that in Maury's voice. Damn you, user.
>I want to show that they are equal swordsman
Then why aren't they hitting each other?
>i dunno, lol
>George Lucas decided to cut out the subplot where Vader wants to overthrow the Emperor so that the surprise ending wouldn't be ruined
Would have been cool, and made the line in V make more sense.
Tbh, I found episode 7 to be far better. As time goes on so does film making.
...
Gen Z is so lost. They parade around like everything is currently at it's peak when in reality mostly everything is trash now.
>Sheev wants Luke to go to the dark side, but points out he's going to the dark side every time Luke starts to use the dark side thus reminding Luke not to go to the dark side
You can't trick someone into embracing the dark side. You can't go: "Whoops! You just used the dark side; guess you really are a Sith now, my young apprentice."
You've got to convince someone to do it of their own free will. The emperor was making it possible for Luke to discover the power of the dark side and then make the choice whether or not he wanted to pursue that power.
He did something different with Anakin. Anakin surrendered to the dark side based on the power Sheev promised him. He didn't even need proof that the power existed; he just accepted Sheev's promise that the dark side would give him what he wanted. All too easy.
With Luke he had to actually demonstrate the dark side's power and then encourage Luke to give in and embrace it.
>The Emperor has nothing to tempt Luke with
I think it works differently from that man
The dark side of the force is supposed to be a temptation in itself, it's not a choice like "I'll betray my emotional and mental resilience to save my friends", it's supposed to be about giving in to your darker emotions like anger and distrust or lust for power. He wanted Luke to join him willingly, not bargain with him. He does even mention that embracing his hatred to kill them is the only way to have the power to save his friends anyway.
>His plan was to kill the Emperor/This is called an inconsistency, George says-
Be reasonable now, you know just as much about Darth Vader's true intentions in that moment as I do. He could have been plotting to overthrow the Emperor for two movies or just saying it to his son to get him to join him by presenting a common enemy- he IS part of the rebellion after all. When other than this has Vader shown any disloyalty to the in any of the movies? Besides
>Listening to a word George Lucas utters after the 1980s
This is the man who says "This is the end of Star Wars, there will be no more saga movies" and then sells the rights to another trilogy to Disney.
>Sounds like a real clumsy fuck but oh this guy is supposed to be a threat? What?
Cut him some slack, he's a 60 year old triple amputee on prosthetic legs walking backwards on a metal floor in a swordfight parrying a trained combatant who's going absolutely apeshit on him and this is probably the first time he's fought on the defensive in decades. You think it's so improbably that he could get bludgeoned off of his footing?
But Anakin WANTED power. Luke didn't. This is why is it so hamfisted how Sheev tries to seduce Luke. What good does it do to show power to someone who wants nothing to do with it.
If I refuse to drive a Mercedes, you showing me one in your garage isn't going to suddenly make me want to drive one.

>Listening to a word George Lucas utters after the 1980s
GL talks about abandoning the "turning against the Emperor" motivation for Vader while they are writing the script for Jedi. It is said in the making of book for Jedi.
probably because his son threw himself to his death the last time he asked.

That moment when you can see the Millennium Falcon in Blade Runner.
braderunner
Vader wanting Luke to help him overthrow the Emperor and the Emperor wanting Luke to kill Vader and replace him would have been a good subplot of double crossing.
As it is now, we have the retarded rule of two, which means I guess Vader was handing Luke to the Emperor knowing there can only be two Siths, and that he would obviously get the short end of the deal. Of course before the shitquels we all just assumed neither Vader or the Emperor was thinking they would be replaced and that there could have theoretically been 3 dark force wielders.
>ranking TFA or R1 above the original trilogy
seriously hope you don't do this
this
the emperor needed a stronger foundation on why luke should go over to the darkside. something that might have workedl would be when han and the rebels on endor got captured a video is transmitted to the death star and shown to luke. this causes luke to fear and the emperor then hints that if luke had enough power he would have been able to protect his friends. or something like that. something to actually give him a reason other than. be evil because it is better.
It's Sheeveson, then
The Empire really should use some kind of medium sized craft to chase the Falcon. The Destroyers are too unmaneuverable, and the fighters are useless.
