Is Miller's Crossing the best gangster movie ever?

Is Miller's Crossing the best gangster movie ever?

No.

Sonatine

No. It's the best Coen Brothers movie though.

this
coincidentally, it's also the greatest film ever made period

4 hours of nothing happening: the movie

It's certainly my favorite Coen Brothers movie.

No. It's Lesser Coens

Take that back.

Blood Simple is better than Miller's Crossing, either way Godfather is still the king.

wrong

RING RING RING RING RING RING

to be fair OUATIA isn't really a "gangster" movie. it just uses the mob as an metaphor for family.

I like Coen Borthers and all, but I prefer Casino.

>Casino
casino > goodfellas

It's Goodfellas and you all know it. Closely followed by The Godfather

ok bud

I'd much rather watch Casino and Donnie Brasco.

Best english language film involving gangsters

It's definitely the most intricately scripted Gangster movie I've ever seen. The dialogue is like music to my ears.

No, in fact it's not even a good gangster movie and is easily the second worst Coens flick.

> Donnie Brasco.

>second worst Coens flick
What's the worst?

No, White Heat is. Miller's Crossing is great though.
As good as OUATIA is, Miller's Crossing is better.
>easily the second worst Coens flick.
It's top 5 Coens. I don't understand how someone could rank The Ladykillers, The Big Lebowski, The Hudsucker Proxy, True Grit, Hail Caesar and Burn After Reading above Miller's Crossing.

>True Grit
What's wrong with True Grit?

It's decent but nowhere near as good as Miller's Crossing. It's also very similar to the style in Miller's Crossing so I find it hard to see how someone could think it's better.

>LOOK INTO YOUR HEAAART

THE OLD IRISH MOB BOSS TOMMY GUNNING THE ITALIAN HIT CREW TO THE TUNE OF DANNY BOY ON HIS OLD TIMEY RECORD PLAYER IS ABSOLUTE GANGSTER GOLD

COENS ARE MASTERS OF PERIOD AND GENRE THERE CAN BE NO ARGUMENT

No movie has ever made me feel more retarded than Miller's crossing. I literally couldn't follow or understand any conversation apart from the fat retarded comic relief character and John Torturro. I felt like the film was mocking me. Maybe I was having a stroke during the film, I'll rewatch it

The Ladykillers has interesting characters and a timeless atmosphere.
Miller's Crossing has nothing. There are so many great crime/noir movies and it doesn't come close to any of them. It's not even as good as Blood Simple.

that's kind of a neo-noir trope: make the deals, backstabs, allegiances, and histories so hard to follow that the audience feels lost. this is a way of making the plot (and the mastermind of it) seem all-powerful and out of the reach of our protagonist.

see:
-"forget it jake, it's chinatown"
-end of true detective s1

>-end of true detective s1
What's amazing is people complain that True Detective s2 is too convoluted - when it's obviously a neo-noir.
You may as well complain that a horror film is scary.

>It's not even as good as Blood Simple.
That's the Coen's best movie by far, so yeah it's not as good as it.
You're saying you didn't like the characters in Miller's Crossing? Turturro gave an all-time performance in this film. It was the perfect love letter to old noir and gangster films.
