We're getting 3 MCU and 2-3 Fox capeshit movies per year, they must try anything to make something fresh.

Supervillains getting their own movies is literally the only thing left that was not overused at this point

Deathstroke can be viewed as an antihero depending on the circumstances. You can make it about one of his odd jobs goes awry with Wintergreen being kidnapped or his daughter.

Solo villain movies would fully develop a villain with no development and give you a reason to either go for the hero or the villain in future films.

Why does he feel the need to innovate the genre? What's wrong with making a respectable conclusion to the story when you end it on such a cliffhanger?
If he wants to do more he could mix in new martial art styles like jiu-jitsu, go for an international approach, have a fight on something with moving surfaces like a crashing plane, a fight scene in a crowded place with innocents involved, etc. Even Headshot had a lot of original stuff in it beyond traditional martial arts.
