I mean he's right though. People who were 0-4 on 9/11 are claiming they're the "ultimate generation of 90s nostalgia" which is over the top absurd
>In the future
Don't need to look that far, Stranger Things already exists.
I've got nostalgia for the 80s and I was born in 92. Refn and Perturbator have manufactured an entire fake decade based on synthesizers and neon lights.
what do you gain by making the same thread in multiple boards?
Ugh, you're probably right and that makes me sad for them
Stranger Things is 80s memery, though
I was born in October 1998. Answer is nickelodeon stuff like icarly, early spongebob, drake and josh, etc... As far as movies go its things like lord of the rings, the dark knight, raimi's spiderman trilogy, and other early-mid 2000s blockbuster franchises like that.
this. you have nostalgia for the era you experienced as a preteen-teen. I was born in 81 and don't have 80s nostalgia, I was too young to remember or understand anything.
House, whitest kids u know, psyche, eureka, how I met your mother, tosh.0, archer, arrested development
>I was born in 81
Go to bed, grandpa.
It's manufactured nostalgia pandering to the millennial demographic who weren't even alive back then.
This.
This guy is claiming he's nostalgic for things that happened when he was 3 years old.
You must be 18+ to post on this site. Excuse yourself.
return of the king came out when I was 5. spiderman 3 came out when I was nearly 10. You're the one who can't do basic math.
House went off the air in 2012 after 8 seasons. People born in 2000 would have been 4 when house started and 12 when it ended. How many 12 year olds were really that into house?
garbage animation like fairly odd parents
oh and that shit with the platypus holy fuck what a steaming pile
Millennials aren't 15. They were born in the 80s.
>manufactured an entire fake decade based on synthesizers and neon lights.
Synthesizers and neon lights were popular in the 80s.
Young millennials? Gen Z? You know what I mean, don't be pedantic.
Phineas and ferb actually won critical acclaim
A lot of parents buy slightly out of date stuff because they're jews.
is the writing good? the animation is unforgivable
The Iron Giant
t.born in 97'
born in 94. My nostalgia only really kicks in 2001 onwards.
It's been established by now that 80s nostalgia isn't going to go away, despite the fact that most of the people consuming it weren't even alive in the 80s and only understand it as a vague collection of music, movies, clothes, and funny haircuts
Vaporwave is a good example of this phenomenon, the aesthetic is strong enough to make an impression even if you have no real familiarity with it
I don't know. Born in 85 here and I still have nostalgia, though it mostly begins in the early 90s.
Vaporwave is 90's nostalgia.
Synthwave is 80's nostalgia.
i got into vidya at like age 4 from older kid neighbors. Granted I had no idea what the fuck I was doing 90% of the time.
The nostalgia is manufactured in the sense it's what people think the 80s was like, not how it was. It's still fake.
It will literally just be capeshit. All capeshit. I can't even think of a blockbuster that that era of children will be nostlgic for.
well yeah I fondly remember a few things from the late 80s like the goonies and thundercats but nostalgia really gets vivid when I think of the 90s
Family Guy
My nigga just recently started listening to perturbator and carpenter Brut, can you recommend me some other artists like them?
I was born in 1990 and my nostalgia seems to kick in from about 94-95 with some late 80s due to hand me downs from older siblings. Also because mexican tv plays exclusively decade old movies and that's what I would watch as a kid.
Millennials have fond nostalgia of a better time. Our childhood days. In the 90's. We prefer to group together and remember our childhood fondly.
What we don't appreciate, is shitheads like these Tumblrs who want to claim the same childhood, despite being born nearly a decade later, or at the very end of the 90's with no recollection of it. It's like kids born in 1950 being nostalgic for WW2. It's assanine. They're trying to ride on the coattails of a trend where you want to be nostalgic for that era to fit in, when in reality your life began after 2000. It's like people jumping to a new football team because their actual team sucks. It's disrespectful, selfish, and evil.
These late 90sfags should just accept that they're not part of the phenomena that was the 90's. We know they desperately want to, but you can't on the basis that you didn't live it. You know, part of the whole nostalgia thing, where you have to experience something to be nostalgic for it.
>see Shrek, Incredibles, etc. at theatre as very young child
>grow up experiencing stuff like iron giant, toy story, babe, indian in the cupboard as cemented "classic" movies despite not being old for other people
>perpetual post-9/11 mindset, iraq on tv all the time throughout childhood
>fucking around in flash as an 8 year old
>making maps in starcraft, warcraft 3, doom
>motherfucking narnia
>cat in the hat
>VALIANT
>Bionicles
>motherfucking cats and dogs
>dumb trashy movies of the decade's subconscious as a kid include THE CORE, the day after tomorrow, click, around the world in 80 days etc.
>get to experience 2007 as a 9 year old - halo 3, cowaduty, hot fuzz, stardust, tf2, STALKER
>contemporary movies background to adolescence: Drive, The Dark Knight Rises, Spring Breakers, fucking Foodfight
/1998/
sounds like awful taste but hard to list chronological nostalgia apart from common denominator things
I think at lot of the warped nostalgia timeframe online these days is third worlder/poor families being at odds with everyone else.
Err, I was born in 94. I remember almost nothing about the 90s. I'm not a le 90s kid. You definitely aren't if you were born in 97, you're just hopping on a retarded fad.
I get what you mean, I was born '97 and would never call myself """"a 90s kid"""""", but a lot of things from the 90s also aired/were popular in the 2000s. When I think of my early childhood I think of Disney films from the Disney Renaissance era, Goosebumps, early Britney Spears, etc. because those things were still popular when I was a kid in the early 2000s even though they came out before I was born. I think it might depend on peoples' home situations as a kid though. My family had no money growing up so we had nothing but a PS1 and a modest VHS collection for quite a while.
Fags born in the late 90s are not nostalgic for the 90s, they're jumping on a fad and pretending to be nostalgic for a decade that they don't even remember.
What they meant to say is they're nostalgic for pre-2007. People born in this 1997-2001 range are the last to remember the world pre-2007. 2007/2008 was the finale to the world and society; the iPhone released, the Great Recession began, Facebook rose, current "social justice" politics began to take hold with Obama being elected, and other things occurred that turned the world into an absurd post-modernist social media self-parody, which it had been tranisitoning into since 9/11.
Born in '93 and would never call myself a 90's kid or have 90's nostalgia. I fucking hate these dumb teenagers.
>I was born in 81 and don't have 80s nostalgia
Really? That's plenty of time to have memories of the 80s. I was born in 78 and I clearly remember the mid 80s
>fucking around in flash as an 8 year old
I didn't have flash as a kid so I made my own little "animations" in Powerpoint lmao. And my mapmaking game of choice was Warlords Battlecry. Everything else is fucking spot-on though (1997 here).
>VALIANT
I forgot that movie existed. The cast was absolutely stacked though in hindsight.
Other things I would add:
>I WONDER WONDER WHAT'S IN A WONDERBAAALL
>mighty beanz
>batman begins (oldfags didn't get to experience the "Would you like to see my mask?" scene as an 8-year-old and the irrational and long-lasting fear of Cillian Murphy that followed)
>neopets

>tamagotchis

there is so much more that is more laid back
people in this range look more fondly on nickelodeon than disney shit
think spongebob, fairy show, jimmy neutron
why has nihilism become mainstream?
more and more people seem to resent their own existence and aren't seeking to secure a future for their children
Because we're all going to die in a nuclear war
Sheri/spongebob maybe? new Star Wars prequels?
Maybe even Harry Potter? Those movies went on for fuckig ever
'81 fag here, too. I remember the latter 80s, but I can't say I'm nostalgic for them. I just remember being there. Some comfy shit like watching cartoons, getting a nintendo, etc., but I wouldn't say I immersed in any kind of culture of the times.
I'd expect you to at least remember 86-89. I remember when I was 5-9 years old well.
Why would anyone want to be a millennial?
I was born in April 1999. Early to mid 2000's is where most of our nostalgic media comes from. Some of my favourite memories are running hope with my friends to play Halo 3 split screen on Valhalla for hours.
I will never be that comfy again, won't I bros?
Nihilism is the ultimate goal of post modernism, a society full of rich jews and a stupid underling class that does all of the work and doesn't care about life or death, just materialism
you mistyped tropic thunder.
>ultimate 90s nostalgia generation

>"remember le meme faces, guys?" "oh man, I used to make meme comics all the time." "i was troll face for halloween one year. 'u mad?' hahahah"

Game of thrones nostalgia will be crazy
>"remember harambe? oh man, that was so sad but so funny."
>"what about pepe?" "hey, dude, that nazi shit isn't funny."
>"you know what was a good frog meme? dat boi! or how about kermit sipping tea?"
>"heh, remember doge? remember ppap? OPPA GANGNAM STYLE! remember dabbing? remember arthur's fist? or how about
Seriously, 10's nostalgia is going to be a ton of shitty meme shit. Just scroll through "Behind the Meme" and you'll get a good idea of what it's going to be like.
Speaking of Youtube channels.
>"remember jake paul? remember team 10? they did such crazy shit at that house."
>"oh, what about ricegum? his diss tracks were just so great!"
>"leeeeet's get riiiiiiight into the neeeeeeews!" "eh, scarce was better."
>"papa bless! fupa!"
>"brofist!"
Can confirm. There was 70s nostalgia for about 5 minutes in the early 2000s, we've been on 80s nostalgia since, with some cues from early-mid 90s in the last few years.
I don't think a lot of it is true nostalgia, it's just that people like synths and fashion elements that haven't been around since then, rather than trying to outright copy a particular time. Hence some 90s stuff being enthusiastically adopted too. The same works for films, a lot of people are getting excited about models or about narrative structures and plots and characterization that hasn't been seen since the 80s, but that's doesn't mean they just want to copy the 80s. It's like convergent evolution in some respects. Of course there is also the direct inspiration, it's a bit of both.
This. The pre/post 2001 generation dichotomy is totally obsolete, 2007 was the watershed year for a generation. 1989 -1999 give or take a year should be its own generation, I notice NO differences whatsoever in people born in that timespan, but we're apparently two distinct generations based on the arbitrary 2001 based system that puts 94 as an arbitrary cutoff for Gen Z.
To be honest, I can already feel the prelude myself, as I feel nostalgic for Stickam and Tom Green raids, for desu desu desu spam, for a cat is fine too, for a whole bunch of shitty proto-memes. I was born in 1993, and shitty Internet culture was a big part of my early adolescence, and I can't pity those kids because I enjoyed it all. Your parents and grandparents prolly thought you were a faggot for feeling nostalgic about cartoons and video games.
Who cares, they're not even real people.
I was 82 and I later discovered music and stuff from the 80s I wish I was old enough for
tfw people born in 1999 can now post on Sup Forums
84 and 94 people have nothing in common.
FAAAAARRRRRRRTTTT
Fucking embarrassing user.
>there are posters in this thread right now who don't remember the /comfy/ 9/11 thread as we watched the towers collapse together

and look who is in the fucking White House

Tho when I came to Sup Forums in 2004, the 9/11 jokes really sank in what kinda place it was.
accurate
>Refn and Perturbator
yeah these were the masterminds behind 80's nostalgia
the guy who made drive and one of the people whose music ended up in hotline miami
it wasn't something all the people who were in their teens or twenties in the 80's who happened to be going through midlife crises at the time were pining for
There are teenagers buying Space Jam shirts these days. The fuck?!
Exactly, but someone born in 84 and 90 are supposed to represent the same generation. I think it's a load of shit. If you were 21 in 2005 you were fully mature before smartphones, widespread broadband, widespread social media etc etc. If you were born in 1991 you were still basically a kid then. It's a huge difference to your social and cultural development.
Gen Z should either start late 80s/early 90s or there should be a separate grouping for ~1989-99. Gen YZ or something.
>be born in 94
>still distinctly remember a lot of 90s stuff
>probably because a lot of it spilled into the early 00s
It's not as clear cut as that. Cultural movements don't end right when the decade does.
Gen Z aren't millenials.
It really depends on your parents and siblings. I introduced my brother born in 90 to a lot of shit i enjoyed but i work with a guy born in 94 who doesnt know shit from 2008 because he's a sheltered fuck raised by a single mother.
saccharin coated patriotism and troop supporting. Their logo will be a yellow ribbon car magnet.
I'm from september 1991, I have some memories from the late 90s, mostly 98 and 99.
I think if you are born pasta 92 you are not a 90s kid
You need to be born in the 80s to be a 90s kid
Incorrect. You need to be born at the end of the 1960s to get the TRUE 90S KID EXPERIENCE™
So are my parents baby, baby boombers or ancient gen xers?
