Mmm... I love Saw films so I'm a bit bias but I would try and be honest and give it a 7/10. It could have been better, but it is good and worth a watch if you like these kind of films

Why don't they just tie a knot in the chain so when it pulls them the knot never goes through the slot in the wall and either breaks the chain or breaks the pulley system?

not OP but I just (saw) it too. the game is played in a barn back when John was still alive. in the last act John shows up in the game and basically gives away it's in the past. john mentions in one of the tapes that he's using a primitive trap and also in one of the tapes the doll looks like a first design. the doctor who seems idiotic is actually the original buckethead. I called it in the first 5 min bucket head would be final boss and I assume anyone with a brain can too just remember this. the doctor is using other bodies from the victims of the crooked cop to make it seem like the game in the past is taking place now. just remember, BUCKETHEAD IS FINAL BOSS

The first was different I guess but it was the same shit over and over again. I cant believe people kept the franchise alive, then again next year Fast 9 will hit theaters.
