Casual AS viewers who tune in expecting FOX programs don't like old AS originals.
Also, the timeslot is fucking terrible. You have major market football games, FOX animated premieres, and loads of other primetime Sunday night programs to watch at 8 PM. The block would have done better ~midnight, plus the fact that more devoted AS fans would be watching at that time.

it's probably somebody from the toonami threads they HATE adult swim originals especially the classic stuff, home movies in particular has received a lot of vitriol from a lot of posters in those threads over supposedly being "terrible", "a kid's show", "ratings cancer" etc. etc.

Holy shit, you're right. Part of the fun of watching some of those shows, for me anyway, was staying up later. Not to mention the casual viewer wanting their FOXshit fix at that time probably getting scared and confused about what was going on.

Exactly. They've tried everything from edited episodes of The Venture Bros. and Squidbillies to Home Movies to Aqua Teen to The Oblongs to lead off Adult Swim's first hour on the weekends in the past couple years and surprise surprise, none of them did as well as FOX shows (though the "classic block" is by far the lowest rated experiment).
They just don't seem to realize that YES AS fans want to see these shows air, but NO the FOX rerun contingent doesn't and NO AS fans won't go out of their way to watch them during early FOX hours instead of the 11:30 - 1:00 block.

Honestly, it's AS' highest rated show in premieres, but the fact that AS has rerun the same 20 episodes a million times already (sometimes the same episode up to four times in a single night) has really destroyed its ability to be re-aired and draw in a sizable amount of viewers.

What would Adult Swim be like had Turner Broadcasting turned AS into it's own channel instead of Boomerang. By not judging the ratings in the thread would it have been a mild success, would it have been given the Boomerang treatment and be turned into a Premium with no commercials
Also why bother turning Boomerang into a channel when it was just a CN rerun programming block that only aired on the weekends and got it's 5 hour run reduced to only 4

I know some people back like 3 - 5 years ago actually believed that shit about Home Movies and now, even when HM hasn't aired on the same night as Toonami since 2013, it's been twisted into some weird bait meme thing in those threads.

When it first started Cowboy Bebop was the only anime on Adult Swim.
The Saturday night anime block was a totally different thing with some 8bit green and white Samus looking character as the mascot.
