Kevin Fiege responds to marvel criticism

screenrant.com/kevin-feige-marvel-formula-criticism-response/

>Marvel tends to dip their toes in darker storylines but they never really fully immerse themselves in it; they dance around the concept of deathbut there’s always a joke to break the moment whena scene gets too intense. The villains are almost always half-baked and there is really no sense of threat to the characters. And while there is obviously a market for these kinds of movies, those who tend to criticize this blueprint perhaps just want to see something drastically different from the MCU knowing very well that they can up their game by taking bigger risks.

stop watching capeshit

marvel is for manchildren
dc is for pretentious manchildren

capeshit was a mistake, its nothing but trash

>knowing very well that they can up their game by taking bigger risks.
He's right but the problem is because of his actions studios won't do it as they want the same amount of money hes getting

Says the man posting on a Tajikistan papercraft forum.

Marvel is making action comedies with some serious moments while DC used to make serious action thrillers with light hearted moments.

so?

I'll be watching til RDJ and Evans leave. I won't have enough interest after that.

Why not actually quote Feige and not the hack writer.

“I think it’s just the way we make the movies. I think all the movies are relatively different. I think there’s a narrative that people like to write about because they’re all produced by the same team and they all inhabit the same fictional cinematic universe. That we look for common similarities. And I’m not saying there aren’t common similarities throughout it, but I think Thor: Ragnarok and Spider-Man: Homecoming are two totally different types of movies. They’re both fun. People both enjoy them. Is that a similarity? If so, I’ll take it. If that’s a criticism, I’ll take that, too. But really, yeah, Homecoming, Ragnarok, Panther, into Infinity War, Ant-Man and the Wasp after that. And a ’90s-set Captain Marvel after that; these are six very different movies. If what they have in common is they’re all really enjoyable and fun to watch, then I’ll take it.”

DC also makes films for adults while Marvel makes children's movies. With the current state of the West it's no wonder marvel capeshit films are doing so well.

Capeshit for adults?

>DC also makes films for adults
Manchildren you mean

DC films aren't capeshit. They're explorations of the human condition and also manage to create very strong symbolic connection between biblical figures and their characters which builds upon the themes displayed in their film.

Its annoying because early MCU wasn't like this. It had humor but comedy wasn't overbearing. The Incredible Hulk is still one of the better movies

yes they are

...

Not an argument.

When you make b8 like this, you should really stick to just MoS and BvS, because it's ridiculous beyond the point of believability to say this about SS.

This post coming from someone who can't form his own independent thought

OP that's what makes marvel movies so fun. They strike a good balance between different elements and execute it very well. Some people want serious grim dark movies which treat death realistically. Those people don't have to watch Marvel movies and its arrogant as fuck for them to demand that every single movie conform to their expectations.

More like not address the criticism at all. Just deflection.

This. Marvel movies are just dumb, shit movies and those always have a market.

Blade, Punisher, Watchmen, Logan and maybe Deadpool and Super but those are more a deconstruction of the genre.

There is a reason they don't do dark movies. Just look at how the dceu is going.

Financially very well just the critics hate them.

To be fair...

SS is an exploration if the motives and relationships of the 12 apostles with Jesus. It's rather brilliant what Ayer was able to accomplish.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

Again, you're going to far. Just stop. Unless you're trying to mock DC fans who somehow think that DC films excuse their general lack of appeal by how high-brow they are, which in that case, keep going.

>DC character making an entrance

they had ONE chance to make a dark movie so far
ONE movie to be more than quip shit due to the nature of said character
they had ONE way of introducing more of the expanded universe and the multiverse (alternate universe)

dr strange

AND IT WAS ALL LINEAR QUIP FEST GARBAGE EXCEPT FOR THE CGI

feige is a fucking hack fuck disney

>financially very well
i don’t see the problem then capeshit producers are very open about the movies being assembly line products to pump out

They're villains are weak but capeshit doesn't need to be dark. If I wanted more serious stories I don't go to 80 year old characters in tights punching monsters

Because marketing is half the game. If your movies are perceived badly by taste makers and influencers that will eventually trickle down to your audience, at least that is what marketing guys keep hammering into the heads of execs.

I just came back from Thor Ragnarok. And its honestly an amazing film.

If you think there comes no threat from the villains you should honestly see this film. It might be light hearted but the villains are truly powerful.

...

No, they had two chances.

Civil War could have been cemented as a great film if they didn't use as many jokes, didn't rely on CGI, and actually killed Captain America.

Imagine what fans would have thought if Cross Bones actually killed Cap at the end of the movie like the comics did. Killing one of the fan favorites in his own movie. It would have been amazing. But they couldnt even kill off fucking Rhodes. They're pussies.

The movie could have been a lot darker and thus scarier. But this works as well.

>with some serious moments
Hm? Where?

It's a kids movie, why would they full immerse in darkness?
Dumb Jew doesn't know his own product

>If what they have in common is they’re all really enjoyable and fun to watch, then I’ll take it.”
No. What they have in common is they’re all boring, predictable, no-stakes quipfests.

sometimes a character dies or nearly dies

>It might be light hearted but the villains are truly powerful.
It doesn’t matter how powerful the villains are when the stories are light hearted. There’s no purpose to anything when nothing is serious.

The only death I can remember was Yondu (and hes coming back in IW). Quick red shirt doesn't count.

They never kill anybody of importance.

The purpose is entertainment.

That's not responding to the criticism. It's a response to his own strawman. It's precisely the sort of response I'd have expected from him, dancing around the issue in a display that is precisely the same threadbare, hackneyed way that his corporate masters' product misdirects from its own glaring inconsistencies, lack of depth and continuity, and paper-thin, plot-driven husks of characters I love.

Quilcksiver, but i feel that was something to do with FOX.

The story impact of ragnarok is pretty huge. They do bring it as if its nothing. Everyone just shrugs the major events off even as everything they know changes. But the movie is pretty tense. And the movie is fucking beautiful.

I honestly think its a top 2 marvel movie. Winter Soldier is the king of the more serious marvel movies. And this one blows the guardians out of the water.

>Imagine what fans would have thought if Cross Bones actually killed Cap at the end of the movie like the comics did.
We all would've loathed the movie since we all had already know what happened before watching it. CW was fine as it was.

BvS was still shit.

>Yondu (and hes coming back in IW)

Wait, what? Source? Because while I do think Marvel needs to grow some balls, killing off best boy was a mistake.

>We all would've loathed the movie since we all had already know what happened before watching it

Yeah because that has stopped the fans from loving all the other Marvel movies

>BvS was still shit.

You really need to get over this searing hatred you have for a cape movie and it's fans. One that's over a year old, I'll also point out.

You are a complete failure of a human being, i miss the days were this board wasn't full of retarded losers like you.
fuck you and fuck Disney for making possible to have idiots like you shitting on a medium that was supposed to be art.

>(and hes coming back in IW)

Fucking hell, why? The MCU is safer than Disney cartoon films at this point

...

>It might be light hearted but the villains are truly powerful.

So are Dragon Ball villians

It's marvel, people die all the time and come back. The comics are more about pushing a progressive agenda using mutants and heroes as stand ins for groups than attempting to tell a realistic story.

It's why it's all quips and bright colors nothing matters.

LEL AHOY AHOY OW YOU SHOULD NOT PICK A FIGHT WITH THIS PERSON

Enjoy your shit movie.

I dont want to spoil the movie for the Americans here.

But in thor ragnarok ragnarok happens.

Thanks for the oscar

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

The MCU is the single biggest problem with capeshit. It's not that the MCU movies are incompetently made, it's not that they're all bad, it's not that even the worst ones don't have some enjoyable aspects. It's that they're seriously damaging and limiting people's perception of what capeshit and by extension modern blockbuster cinema could and should be. Marvel Studios approach to film making is devastating the idea of distinct directorial style in all but the most trivial ways. Their approach to their own characters is robbing superheroes of their power as symbols and myths and reducing them to sitcom characters. Their steady stream of 6/10s is, in conjunction with the equally damaging Rotten Tomatoes system, is training audiences to think that an unremarkable film is better than a controversial one. Ultimately the root of this problem goes beyond Marvel itself and back to Disney, you can see the same thing happening to all the other properties they own. Now compare this to DC and X-Men, who's lows are worse than any MCU movie. Why? Because they have further to fall. Because they actually aim high, and their best are the best of the genre and in some cases even transcend it.

>there’s always a joke to break the moment whena scene gets too intense

I hate that shit. They can't even do good gallows humor either.

Why is there 0 comments on Screen rant? Is it a bug?

Capeshit has a place.
I can watch movies with my children, and I don't mean sitting through Rio2 wishing I was dead.
They're a fine way to spend 2 hours. If they're ore than that to you, and you're an adult, then there are probably better movies you could spend your time with.

...

This is the worst thing about DC capeshit. It tries to act grown up and just comes off cringy.
They're kids movies. Embrace that.

Does Thor poo himself when it happens?

Why should they lower themselves to literal toilet humor when TDK and rises both made over a billion for therm?

Essentially MCU movies are for when you want to go to a movie where you will have fun and enjoy yourself and walk out feeling satisfied and happy.

DCU movies are for when you want to feel ripped off and walk out with a headache.

Ive never heard of this before, such an original thought.

Poe’s Law in full effect here

Good post.

thats because it was made by universal

Because not everything can be TDK.

And even TDK was pretentious. Ask Rob Ager

Marvel Studios has the greatest combination of critical and financial success relative to the number of movies produced of any movie studio created after the 1930s.

They have been able to reshuffle and swap out some of the parts of 2008's Iron Man and successfully remake it twice so far.

They can make significant parts of their movies have the cgi of sci-fi short films with budgets under $100,000 published on youtube while having completely forgettable music and still succeed.

They have shown with their remakings of Iron Man, reuse of ideas for the Damage Control show in Spiderman: Homecoming, the reuse of ideas for things falling from the sky as a finale for a movie, and the reuse of ideas for music usage and a thief main character for Wright's Ant-Man into GOTG and Dr. Strange that they can brainstorm information for movies and tv shows and simply reuse the ideas from one tv show or movie for a different movie, but with a different take on the idea all as a way to increase the efficiency and cost of pre-production and speed up the production timeline of their movies.

They can not be stopped and they will never fail.

Fucking this.

Honestly I preferred batman begins. Although TDK increased the general production quality, especially with fight choreography, Batman begins developed the characters excellently, and really understood what they were adapting.

Superman is a fucking glory hound in the Snyder movies. Instead of just helping people he slowly descends making sure that everyone understands that he's literally jesus before actually doing something.

I applaud you. I couldn't have said it any better myself.

BB is the best superhero movie after Raimi's first two Spider-Man films. It's a shame people dislike origin stories so much.

Fucken this. You missed they're now doing the same thing to Star Wars.

Im the future, MCU will be marked as the trailblazer for the death of film as an art. I should start my thesis on it now

You should remove DC remark because marvel drone will only focus on that and not the rest of your valid argument.

You should. Everyone should. The art of the motion picture is dying, but no one notices. Even Hollywood is too wrapped up in its own stew of shit, what with the revelations that have been surfacing. We may very well be seeing the American Film's death, only to be replaced by foreign cinema, Netflix, and so on.

No death or rape, no kino.

You are stupid.

Except Jesus' father didn't tell his son to hide his powers instead of helping people and thus being both loved and hated for his abilities.

I AM JESUS

That has nothing to do with him and everything to do with the free market. If you don't like it, move to Russia. Pinko.
