Samurai Pizza Cats was only good because it was a gag dub. The writers didn't speak Japanese and watched the episodes making up the script and jokes as they went along, trying to guess the plot.

You can't recapture something like that.

Still mad that this show didn't get representation in Tatsunoko vs Capcom. Would of been a perfect counterpart to Viewtiful Joe.

I'm saltier about the conspicuous omission of Speed Racer. Tatsunoko's longest lived and most famous character not included in the game?

The article states, that Capcom thought about it with Speed Racer then gave the "Ghost Rider is only on his motorcycle" excuse.
Hollywood made Speed put some beatdown on goons, so Capcom can't even fathom a move set. Then throw Racer X the rep spot.

It was also because it was brought over by Saban, and with the popularity of Power Rangers still high at the time many in the fanbase mostly gave the ad-libbed retelling of Cat Ninden Teyandee a pass. Saban probably wouldn't be able to get away with it again nowadays.

It's kinda like Robotech, congealing three separate anime series into one to make enough syndicated episodes might have been cool back at the time but you won't be able to get away with that nowadays since anime companies have been taking a 'no cuts' approach to how their series' are translated and portrayed.

>A remake
>It's Flash animation

>Samurai Pizza Cats was only good because it was a gag dub
So wrong

The last show I can think that applied the ad-libbing and fusing 3 shows into one was Transformers The Unicorn Trilogy.
Apparently Takara didn't plan Cybertron to be a continuation. Plus all 3 shows were horrendously dubbed.

Oh boy, can't want for SPC user to stumble in here and present his dissertation on how wrong you are.

This approach won't be missed. Robotech is an abomination and Harmony Gold is the devil. What they did to Macross is inexcusable, but even further they've put forth tremendous effort to ensure Americans don't see the original.

It's revolting

I've seen latter Macross shows, and with the exception of Plus, I don't think they're particularly good. After seeing Voltron:LD, I'd love to see that crew do a reboot of SDG/Robotech.

eh, Robotech was one of my first animes and it got me into Mecha.
Yeah all that legal bull-bull that Harmony Gold holds sucks. But I also have the Robotech novels and they make the show a whole lot better.

What the fuck are you talking about? You can go to Amazon Prime right now and watch the uncut subtitled version of Macross. Even before that, ADV Films dubbed a straight version of Macross. Even before that, you could watch the uncut sub on DVD in 2003 from AnimEigo. AND EVEN BEFORE THAT, Streamline Entertainment released subs on VHS in the early 90s.

It's been easier to watch the unedited version of Macross than literally any other goddamn edited anime in the history of US anime distribution. We only just recently this decade received a sub release of Samurai Pizza Cats.

>Apparently Takara didn't plan Cybertron to be a continuation. Plus all 3 shows were horrendously dubbed.

Well, Hasbro was the one brainstorming the UT shows, and Cybertron was clearly designed to be a continuation of the last two shows; considering Red Alert returns from Armada, and there's a bunch of design cues from past series in the characters. They're clearly meant to be the Armada/Energon cast. Its just that takara didn't give a shit, and they where the ones securing the show deal, and they took no measure to make sure the series followed off from the last two. so as a result, you have things like characters clearly meant to be Hot Shot and Jetfire renamed. Naturally when Hasbro got it, they where like "WTF is this bullshit" and tryed to patch it up.

There's a good reason you don't see Hasbro letting them handle much TF media anymore.

It took Third Dimension and NickToons Voltron before Americans could come up with something watchable in Legendary Defender.

Do you really want Macross to run that gauntlet?

But I don't want the Third Dimension of NT Voltron doing it, I want the Voltron Legendary defender crew doing it, which have a track record of doing something good.

>which have a track record of doing something good.

They did also Korra. So no, they don't have a track record of doing things well.

I would a robot bunny princess

But also the first avatar, so 2 out of 3 isn't bad odds.

Their track record so far is Good (Avatar) > Bad (Korra) > Good (Voltron).

So whatever their next project is will be Bad. Then the one after that will be Good again.

Sort of like Star Trek movies or Windows OS.

This was a show? I thought it was a porn character.

The whole lot of you should be sent to Prisoner Island.

Yeah, the cat girl on the left gets a lot of porn for some reason.

The guys who made Korra bad(Bryan and Mike) aren't even involved in Voltron.

He but Japanese G1 time line is crazy, its one of my guilty pleasures. Like how the author of those TF Legends comic strips threading the Jap G1 lore.

...

>Reboot
>Beastwars

But I would rather not see it happening cause it would turn into some sjw shitfest anyway.

SEND THAT user TO PRISONER ISLAND!!!!!!!!

Kek

NOBODY KEKS AT ME!!
SEND HIM TO PRISONER ISLAND!!!!!

Polly is just bitchy enough to be endearing.

Well meme'd

She's alright in my book, all three of them have something about themselves that goes a little overboard.

...

>praise Kek

I think you could apply a gag dub onto the Bakemonogatari series.

This never got finished, what the fuck happened?

It got cancelled when they had something like 8 or 9 of the 12 treasures.

Pretty much everyone who worked on teh show loves it, and have said that they would like to make a new one, but it's unlikely to happen because despite having a large fanbase it never made much money. Almost all of the VAs and such have also gone on to superstar level in the 20 years since which would make recruiting them all back incredibly expensive, and one of them even just died last year.
You know the original was already full of all the stuff people claim made the dub great, right? Puns, pop culture references, fourth wall breaking, ad-libing, self-deprecation, it's all there.
At the time it was still a dormant IP that hadn't been touched in years. It wasn't until 2012 that someone somewhere decided to give it another chance, and then boom, DVDs, book, toys, Crunchyroll, translations of said book, more toys, etc. If TvC2 were to ever happen, I think it would be a lot more likely to make it in now.

There's one guy who's pretty heavily involved in the furry artist community constantly getting people to do commissions of her. Apparently some of the people he commissions don't even know she's from a show either.

I know who you're talking about, made a drawing for him and I don't mind drawing her myself. He also likes to draw Polly so it's not like most of the stuff out there is done by other people.

>Samurai Pizza Cats was only good because it was a gag dub.

Duel Masters is the same way.

The original Japanese show is just a paint by numbers Yu-Gi-Oh knockoff with no original aspects to speak of.

The English version went full-blown gag/parody and was the only thing that made it enjoyable.

I prefer her mother.

Yeah, he's sort of a friend of mine, we swap SPC pics and stuff often. I also help him track down old SPC doujins. He's got a few built up now that he's planning to scan eventually.

She was a fun character, shame she was only in one episode.

Didn't it come on Toonami, I remember watching that and somewhat enjoying it (saw it as the yugioh ripoff it was which soured me back them).

BTW, SPC's character designer has had a blog since 2006, and he's drawn over 300 SPC-related things there over that decade:
blogs.yahoo.co.jp/robototenko/GALLERY/gallery.html?fid=0&p=1
There used to be a forum thread with links to the SPC-related pics, but that forum is down now, so you'll just have to wade through the gallery.

I still wish we got that Police Cats sequel, all the shenanigans a cop could get into plus robotic animals.

I Didn't watch the show but played nes game.

Yeah, it seems like that never got past the really early idea phase. Character designer says that it was shaping up to just be a rehash of KNT, maybe if it had actually gotten picked up they might have had some time to give it some of its own unique twists. Although apparently there was at least a short story/setting treatment written up, but when the whole concept was first revealed to the public in that book in 2012 they couldn't find it, just some of the character drawings.

how bizzare

The NES game is pretty nice, it's like Ninja Gaiden Lite. Not surprising since it was made by Tecmo. Does a good job of capturing the feel of the show in its cutscenes and such.
