>Star Trek: Discovery
>Season 1, Episode 7
>Magic to Make the Sanest Man Go Mad

>THE GOOD
- This episode was a lot more episodic and self-contained than any other episode in the series. While I've been enjoying the story thus far, it's nice to be able to take a break from it.
- Stamets was really strong in this one. He's definitely not wasting the time that he gets in the spotlight.
- Mudd was also really great in this episode. I'm really enjoying what they're doing with the character in this series.
- The time-looping Groundhog's Day plot was interesting. The best bit was probably Mudd killing Lorca over and over again. It was executed in a visually-interesting way (and got a chuckle out of me).
- The idea of a space whale was a neat one.
- The Ash/Michael romance is alright, it's actually making me like the Michael character because we're seeing her struggle and grow as a character, and they do some cute things with the romance. I'm not a super big fan of it, though, but I don't know, we'll see where it goes.
- Book-ending the episode with a personal log was a good move.

>THE BAD
- Not enough Tilly. Not enough Saru.
- In the end, they just let Mudd go, which doesn't make a whole lot of sense given that he tried to sell an experimental Starfleet vessel to the Klingons in a time of war, and he knew all this top secret information about said experimental ship. It seems like a really dumb thing to do and doesn't make a whole lot of sense. I get that he needs to be able to later appear in TOS, but given the whole time-travel aspect, you probably could have worked out a better way where it makes sense.
- The "random ship guy" or whatever it was line was supposed to be real funny I guess but it just fell flat for me.

>THE VERDICT
This was one of the better episodes in my opinion. It's up there with episode 5 (which, prior to this episode, I considered the best of the series so far). Really pleased with the direction this show has taken.

fake Q is lame
ending of this was retarded

Good review. Don't think Tilly should've had more screentime though. I can't stand her

How did it have ended?

Mudd goes to jail or gets mind wiped or time resetted or something. Instead, he walks away knowing the Federation's military secrets during a war after threatening to sell them to the Klingons with no assurance that he won't at least tell them what he knows for a smaller cash payout.

Should*

Just catched STD Episode 7 here on Netflix in my country .. and I'm wondering.. is there any more tv shows with this 'repeating the same day' theme? Not as good as STD for sure.. but gimme some suggestions.

I love time travel episodes .. and this theme is sort of time travel.

not by the bad guy reluctantly getting pussy and a steady source of income
fucking dumb shit

I don't know about tv shows but Groundhog day is the GOAT "repeating day" movie

Lorca should have killed Mudd with the Blade Runner gun and then turned to the camera and be all like: "Sorry, nerds. guess I messed up ya canon."

>hey lets give just about all of the federations secrets to the space mafia

>this is a great plan

the writers will just forget about all of this, though, so its okay

TNG does it pretty well, so does TOS and all other star trek shows

Mods confirmed for shilling for CBS deleting STD threads.

>the space mafia
This is a cool idea so of course they'll never revisit it and thus the secret is safe.

I think I want to fuck Stamets.

The writers have to follow canon

Get out of here, kevin.

>get beaten by a a mere second
>cry about it

Payed off Mods deleted the real STD thread
This is a CBS shill thread. Its just like reddit now where mods and admins are bought off.

>catched

Isn't that black chick the captain?
Why is she standing at parade rest?
How do you guys honestly watch this show.

>actively shit all over canon every episode
>we're going to keep mudd alive, though

brilliant

The real thread Was up after the bump limit yours posted before that one was too early yet not deleted because the mods are payed off by CBS just like how marketing teams buy reddit admins.

>Payed
>thinking that suits are going to spend money to advertise to pirates that aren't going to pay for their service
Fuck off ESL.

TELL ME WHY SHE'S STANDING AT PARADE REST

Same way marketing teams pay off Reddit admins which is known. They just went to IRC and offered to mods money to get their way already knowing who to go too.

>WAAAAAAH MODS DELETED MY THREAD I WANTED TO BE THE ONE WHO MADE THE THREAD BAAAAAAAW MY Sup Forums FAME

a goofy ending makes no sense in a grimmdark universe, choose one or the other, both are fine, but not mixed

relationship development was also goofy sitcom shit, i don't mind it, but make up your mind what kind of series you want

shes a stiff vulcan

Shills and payed off mods dont know that the show has always been called STD before the show even aired.

go pay off more mods CBS to delete the real STD threads keeping the one made way before the bump limit.

Your so retarded but we all see what happened.

>people still arguing over what to call this shit show
why are we still talking about this?

everything about this show is goofy as fuck. the only reason people confuse it for gritty/grimdark is because of how shitty the lighting is.

He does this every time. It's really pathetic

Spoken like an out of the loop retard who doesnt know that the mods can be bought off same way reddit admins are.

hurrrr durrrrrrrrrrrrr

I'm not the OP. I just jumped in to mock you for being a child and throwing a tantrum over something that's really fucking stupid and doesn't matter even in the slightest. If you want credit and internet points, there are websites where you can get upvotes, go to them.

...

oh yea it has nothing to do with the edgy deaths, curse words, and action packed scenes
its only because of the shitty lighting and not the gay tryhard grimderp shit

not that person but your clearly a shill shilling BS by defending deleting real threads for you corporate BS.

You only prove how retarded you are and right the other posters are.

...

>still shilling /dis/
its /std/

>edgy deaths, curse words, and action packed scenes

they said fuck twice! Fuck! stop the fucking presses they said FUCK in star trek! FUUUUCK

the rest has just been standard fare.

it was decently dark the first bunch of episodes, i was enjoying watching the series as a kind of trainwreck, just incompetent people fucking things up in space and getting saved by bad writing when convenient

i am annoyed that they changed the tone at this point, i watched the last episode in the background while doing other stuff. those are not likable characters, don't try to put them in goofy, heartwarming situations because nobody cares about what happens to them in the first place, just keep doing incompetent shit and blowing things up

youtube.com/watch?v=qS7nqwGt4-I

its monday looks like the marketing teams are back to buying off mods to try to force their failed meme.

yo seriously we are 7 episodes into this crapfest and you fags are still arguing over this
who gives a shit
you faggots must have legit autism if youre still talking about something to tiny and frivolous

Last episode was great

...

Greetings fellow Sup Forums posters. Be sure to sign up for CBS All Access and dont call the show STD we bought the mods to delete all STD threads.

>/STD/
Cut this shit out

vocaroo.com/i/s04b8KZl87wz

...

only paid shills are complaining about /std/

nah were not as retarded as those who are too dumb to know how mods can be bought off same as reddit admins.

They already know who to go to and their paypals to deposit the shekels.

They really aren't though.

The guy who creates /STD/ threads is a NEET who monitors Discovery general 24/7. Most pathetic poster on Sup Forums by far

>the rest has just been standard fare.
dude shut the fuck up
this show is not standard fare for star trek
the space battles alone make it seem like some star wars bullshit
fucking kys

is this next level shitposting or did the CBS shill bot break?

>a serious sci-fi drama
>a campy joss whedon production with ham acting
wish the show would make up its mind

.05 shekels have been deposited into your account. Nice google image there CBS, dont even have any reactions saved from our board.

You could at least try to not look like a shill.

...

you sound paranoid and delusional
stop shitting up threads with your autistic nerd rage

>implying any normal person would title this DIS
nice try, STD just rolls out of your mouth when talking about the series

Mods get called out for being bought off and CBS cries about it.

so sad.

and you come off like a shill by paying mods to stop users from calling them out for being payed off and deleting the STD threads.

dont go full retard.

...

stop time travelling dumbass, or it's space jail for you

>o-CRYING-BABY-facebook.jpg
>o-CRYING-BABY-facebook.jpg
AHAHAHAHA
wow
STD fans for you

its a short lived groundhog day meme
only newfags dont know about it

CBS shilling intensifies.

...

shills get away with spamming, getting threads deleted because of the payed mods.

Great job selling out Sup Forums.

...

Honestly before seeing it and hearing there was a romance thing, I was dreading it but it's not actually as bad as I thought.

But yeah for the most part I agree, it wasn't that bad. Series is getting better, I don't ever think I'll like it as much as TOS, TNG, or DS9, but it's not as bad as I thought it was.

There was a space mafia in DS9. It was one of those things that sound neater than it was but it was a cool O'Brien episode so it gets a pass.

Check out Cause and Effect in TNG Parallels as well though it isn't repeating so much as going though different versions of shit.

>and you come off like a shill by paying mods to stop users from calling them out for being payed off and deleting the STD threads.
dude my whole point is who gives a shit
you can call it std, i dont care
its the fact that your faggot ass is STILL shitting up threads about it
who cares, let that small shit go

This. People who scream "CBS shill" are newfags

next level spammers from CBS dont get banned but make a thread that says STD and watch what happens.

...

>deleting post complaing about the name
>leaves baby shitposting pictures
/std/ threads are more civil than this /dis/ thread because everyone already embraced the name

even if STD decided it doesn't want to be a dark trainwreck of shit characters and how is a campy sitcom in space, at least i still have this kind of trainwreck STD threads to remember that tone :3

my prediction is they will keep the campy shit until it's revealed that the space guy is an spy, then be dark for 1-2 episodes, then campy again

but i am hoping to be surprised by a level of shit writing that i'm even unable to imagine with my human mind

Their the smart one not the retards screaming everytime their called out because their scared.

...

>>deleting post complaing about the name
>>leaves baby shitposting pictures
The mods wont ban them since their the ones paying them, hence they can spam but try that in any other thread and the ban hammer comes down swiftly.

I've liked STD so far but I hated that episode. I was laughing to hear Mudd was returningand he was well cast but last weeks episode had a compelling cliffhanger for this week to start with 'Months have passed and life is...' cliche.

The series started strong with the outbreak of war but as of today that's all barely relevant background noise and Discovery came across as a rear echelon ship awaiting orders. Rather than the super snowflake weapon it's been built up to be.

It's Star Trek enough in the TOS sense. Wacky episodes thrown in among better ones and no real continuity so it can be syndicated in whatever order but TV has progressed alot since then and the 10 part miniseries press really had me hyped that we'd get something closer to the BBC TV cut of Das Boot but Star Trek.

Ofcourse they'd never go that dark but they've taken it too dark to have wacky episodes thrown in the mix in my opinion.

Autism triggers:
It really annoys me in 21st century Trek that the Transporters have no rules whatsoever and are just magic. First off I'm 90% sure in the TOS era they had to use transporter pads for all teleportation (which I can forgive) but the scanners missing a whole ship with a man onboard inside what they're transporting is too much my so far extremely forgiving headcanon.

No security whatsoever. Even on the bridge. Lorca's been built up as a crazed warrior yet he's passive as fuck when a man walks on his bridge. Disappointed with him rather than claiming it's bad character writing (too early to say) but it was absurd that the crew sat around and did nothing even if since Mudd had computer control they couldn't do much.

Super Autism I should leave mode:
I hated all the frat party vibe. Let alone on a warship under way on a war footing. TNG made it pretty convincing that you had to be an on the spectrum workaholic to make it through the Academy.

Mudd beamed him and Stamets to the shuttlebay by waving his hand. Telling the computer nothing.

No it's because people who call it DIS aren't easily triggered autists.

>/std/ threads are more civil than this /dis/ thread because everyone already embraced the name
/std/ threads are more civil because you /std/fags only cry and shit up threads with shillspamming when you don't get your way.

>but it's not actually as bad as I thought.
lol, no, it's even worse

>Series is getting better
not better, it's just getting campy for a few episodes, because the writing is horrible and it's the only way the are able to present "Michael being happy for a few episodes" instead of writing scenes with actual emotion

then they will change tone again when it is revealed that the spy guy is a spy in a twist episode. high level writing there

Oh look the mods didnt delete the shills paying them to spam in their shill thread.

hah this is most likely the case
