Can this be adapted to western audiences like on Netflix or Amazon, or is the weeb shit too strong to adapt it?

They just need to get rid of Murrrican, actually jewish, conventions and cliches in movies.
Death Note had a literal ubermensch for its protagonist because it actually asks if people should decide on who lives for the good of society and who doesn't and putting a character whose only moral reference is his own excellence only makes it all more difficult to answer. You could argue that Light is a danger to society but he doesn't make an outwardly selfish or unreasonable use of his power until he is cornered, but before that a lot of people believe he is helping society by getting rid of those them judge as irredeemable threats to society. At the beginning, a running idea was that if Kira only kills people who are confirmed to be evil then he is not really evil, but that claim goes to hell once he targets L who is by no means an evil doer.
Light as a character could represent on his own how crooked justice could become if there are no checks and balances despite it being administered by a intelligent and benevolent person.

Now, what fucking nuance does a bullied teen killing people have? None, that is.
Like, just fucking get someone that cares and appreciates the ideas presented in these stories lmao

>care about the message and themes instead of half baked shit trying to cash in on name recognition
you're crazy, it'll never work

>what fucking nuance does a bullied teen killing people have?
If that's the only thing you think is going on in AKIRA then I dunno what to tell you.

No it can't. The manga is perfect as it is, and the film is okay.

Maybe. The original manga is a story that's almost entirely about about post-war Japan up to the 1980s. The film is a bit more vague about it all which is one part of why I think it's so much more popular and also shows you don't have to be super weeb to adapt the story. It's not like there haven't been plenty of films and shows to rip off Akira in recent times anyway.

You grossly misinterpret Death Note and its themes

>If that's the only thing you think is going on in AKIRA then I dunno what to tell you.
I was talking about the Netflix Death Note movie.

Please tell me why. I'm rusty on my Death Note.

Akira is about some invisible force that can be controled through the power of blood and mind. Like in the Prequels of SW with midi-chlorians. The main character Tetsuo becomes semi-hedi but can't control the power and wants to go to the grave of more powerful jedi to commune with his spirit.

Am I the only one who likes the movie better than the manga? It seems like anytime someone talks about Akira they bring up how much better the manga but I just thought it was overlong and stuffed with unnecessary characters and scenes. Movie isn't perfect but I still like it a lot more than the book.

It already was

im 100% with you. although they're really kinda doing different things, like miyazaki with nausicaa otomo recognized that you have to approach storytelling differently for forms that are as different as serialized comics and a single film.

for me personally centering the film's story around layered metaphors of adolescence and focusing it on tetsuo and kaneda as character is much more compelling that the larger social story the manga tries to tell.

I would most certainly recommend the film first before the manga. But the manga has so many things going for it, primarily in terms of characterization. The film condenses the themes pretty well, but it's so worth it to read just to see scenes like Kaneda's gang taking on Tetsuo, Tetsuo's taking over of the Clown gang, seeing the workings of the esper program, Tetsuo firing a nuke from an American aircraft carrier. The spectacle of these and many other scenes makes it worthy of consumption, even for people who don't care for comics.

soundtrack alone puts the film worlds ahead tbqh

Akira is pretty westernized already. There's a reason the anime adaptation is one of the handful of weebshit things normies will acknowledge.

Akira was gay

I hope not. I don't need normalfags or niggers pretending to like Akira.

I did watch the film first, I think most people do. I think it's funny you bring up characterization as a positive of the comic since I don't find most of the characters that interesting. There are some that I really liked and thought were better in the book like Kei and Ryu but a lot of them felt unnecessary or just forgettable. I also prefer the Kaneda and Tetsuo in the movie compared to the book which is the main reason I like the movie in fact, feels a lot more focused on those two characters and their conflict.

Who do you think the Akira fanbase is? Its people like Kanye, not the Sup Forums crowd.

there was talk of a live action domu adaption, which is probably better suited anyway

I'd much rather it be a 26 episode anime with the highest budget ever given to a televised anime.

It's already adapted into normie culture.
