What caused all the crops and animals to die?

What caused all the crops and animals to die?

>inb4 hur dur it doesn't matter

It's entire premise of the story. Fuck off.

Yellowstone erupted

>it's the premise of the story
>therefore it matters

You're full of shit and you know it. The reason as to why the apocalpse happened is not important to the story, characters, or overall plot of the movie. It just happened. Fill in the blanks yourself.

I would say the ambiguity made the context of this apocalypse more sinister; and that it's either entirely unknown, or it doesn't matter anymore

In the book it isn't explained either, it's just described in a typicallu mccarthian way :o)

>It's entire premise of the story

It's the premise of the SETTING not the story.
And the story is the focus here, so it doesn't fucking matter.

Are you mentally challenged? The premise is "the world is fucked", HOW exactly it was fucked is irrelevant, HOW doesn't affect characters or plot. Yes, you mong, it doesn't matter.
Let's say aliens did it. One day they came down from outer space and ruined the planet. Then they left. It's canon. Screenwriter is my pal. So, there you go.

>What caused all the crops and animals to die?
Not enough people bought carbon credits and drove Prius cars.

Jews

>DUDE IDK FILL IN THE BLANKS YOURSELF LMAO
Ah so this is the power of one of America's greatest writers. lol

>I want everything spoonfed to me

Ah, so this is the power of socialist education

>t. brainlet

Yeah, that makes sense.

I mean in the book it isn't mentioned either, just as flashes of light and clocks stopping. IMO that makes it all the more unsettling. Whatever it may have been the result is the setting of the book. It makes you fear the Post-Apocalypse world more, takes emphasis off how it began in order to not distract the reader with the question whether the events are realistic. To the child it doesn't matter how it happened, He was born into that world. While the book and movie are in the Father's perspective they do emphasize how important the Child is to him. And that also brings in how he was unaware of the world before. Why the ideas of blue skies wonders him. It isn't the How it happened we have to fear, it is the What Happens After.

I always assumed it was nuclear war. Maybe i should rewatch

>one of America's greatest writers
He's literally not even in the top ten of living American writers doofus.

>What caused all the crops and animals to die?
TRUMP

probably an asteroid. In the book everything is burnt and ash covers the land and the sky, kind of sounds like what is theorized to happen if an asteroid strike does happen.

I'm going say it was aliens.

name my band

this was legitimately a book that made me depressed.
you're two of the last (maybe thousand?) people and you're on a planet where everything else is dead and the resources from the old world are gone or picked over already.
It's like the planet is a terminal cancer patient and everything is dead except for the last humans and they are just wandering, almost in a state of denial like "no I just need to find somewhere warm. I'm going to survive. I'm going to survive" but there's the knowledge in the back of your mind that you aren't going to survive.
All you can do is wander the country and look for anything to live off of.
People have resorted to rape, cannibalism, murder, and theft.
Trees just fall in the woods because they're all dead already and finally just tip over in the wind.

>implying they wouldn't kill and eat the one legged gimp

Religion of Peace

In the book god did it or something

I interpreted it as nuclear winter. Flashes in the sky followed by ash and coldness. Seems to fit the bill.

Such a dreary and hopeless book, indeed. Probably the best book I don't actually recommend to people.

A virus started where cum started to emit a noxious stinky odour and caused everyone to ejaculate almost non stop it also caused women to grow penises and suffer the same symptoms and soon the stinky cum lined the streets and choked out all animals and plants and it stopped about 1 day before the road starts

Touching movie, but I always got confused by the ending where the other family just randomly decides to take care of the boy. Is it fair to assume they're just cannibals like everyone else and just trying to trick the kid into coming with them to be their next meal?

This, or perhaps a meteorite impact similar to the one that caused the K-Pg mass extinction.

It doesn't really matter tho.

It is not important for the story, wherever it is natural on man made. The world is dying, there is no future. The only thing that matters is survival in the present, not what caused the world to end. In the book it isn't mentioned either.

No, they aren't cannibals, they have dog with them. Cannibals would have eaten the dog. The whole point of the dog was, so people woudn't ask questions like that.

But then it literally makes no sense. We have this movie set in a desolate wasteland where no one can really afford to show even small kindnesses to others because there's simply too little to go around. And you're telling me this small nomadic family who has been tracking the father and son the entire time are just going to randomly adopt this kid and take on the burden of feeding, clothing, sheltering, etc ANOTHER mouth to feed for no real benefit?

It doesn’t matter. You’re the reason the SW prequels exist.

no the dog is to alert them to enemies/prey they can't see or hear. There is a reason we have a separate category of dogs named hunting.

The main reason asteroids/super volcanoes/nuclear winter wipe out 99% of life on earth is the fact that they block out a large portion of the sun's light. Every ecosystem on this planet uses some form of plant life that needs that light.

you can notice in the movie how every place is grey, ashy, dreary and not a D.C. filter. This for a reason other than lighting. It is meant to show how the sun doesn't reach the surface of the planet anymore.

>movie set in barren wasteland
>goes out of its way to show how little recourses are left
>people still don't understand how

You're better off watching something like "This is the End."

Fucking retards. So if I write a romcom that takes place on the moon and it has a breathable atmosphere and resources I can just wave away questions about how this is possible/how it happened by saying they should just focus on the characters and the setting is unimportant? BULLSHIT.

It doesn't matter.

>

You’re the dumbest troll I’ve seen in a while or you’re legit retarded or severely autistic.

...

OP is a faggot.

I'll just leave this here:

I actually made this edit, r8, h8, etc.

What's a plot device?

The benefit is the continued survival of humanity.

You post was a literal example of "things women would never understand"

it was clearly the rapture.

Refute his points then plebs.

>his

Hmm, what's this? Quiet all of a sudden?

that's the entire reason why the walking dead is so popular
>what is the reason of the apocalypse
>why this happened
>how it works

you're not going to get the answers because of the so called realistic fantasy bullshit that's popular nowadays

REALISM

FROm a thematic point of view a man made disaster makes it more poignant.

More importantly
What's with the people with cut fingers?

OM NOM NOM

Does Lovecraft trigger you?

this is basically every american post-apo story. you have people, and "the dead". not even zombies because that's too "cheesy". THE DEAD. WALKERS. LURKERS. BITTERS. without any end game. sometimes it's not even the dead. it's just "something ambiguous happens" and the people "pretend" we're living in post-apo. it's all the same. one of the few good post apo franchises is fallout, because since it's a video game they have no limitations. no budget limit. they can have more than people with zombie makeup. not to mention, it's not the modern world, it's the alternative timeline, which makes it even more interesting.

the rest though, it's all the same. And it's not going way, that fucking dumb movie It Comes at Night. It has all the post-apo realistic fantasy bullshit. "Unknown disease" "people fighting with each other" "tough choices, though decisions" "edginess because the father kills the kid" 89% of the RT. Hilarious.

The Road was the same bullshit.
>dude I'm gonna force this nigger to strip naked. SO SHOCKING. SO DEEP. 100% on RT because viggo didn't have a shower for a month.

god I fucking americans so goddamn much.

I bet you like the Star Wars prequels because they introduced midochlorians.

so the kid gets eaten at the end by that couple right?

>god I fucking americans so goddamn much.

Calm down. You forget words when you're mad.

No. In the book it skips ahead and we see the kid as an adult so at the very least they don't kill him.

If the clocks stopped working like the one user said, its probably a nuclear related.

Nuclear bombs let out EMP, so the clocks and other technology would stop working. Its also been a while since the bomb dropping or what ever since the child is in adolescence, so you don't see much mutated people.

It would also explain why no plants or livestock is still alive.

Canada let their citizens marry their pets.

does not matter

Imagine being this fucking stupid.
Maybe you think every single one of these movies should be like a Roland Emmerich movie, where we get multiple POV stories from the president/ the scientist who finds the solution/ his relatives and millitary / pilot

What? He's not an adult. He's still young. But we do see he lives past that, because it talks about his praying and everything.

>GET ME THE PRESIDENT
>CUTS TO THE PRESIDENT
>SIR THIS MAN IS A COOK
>I HEAR YOU GENERAL STRONGHAMMER BUT LETS HEAR THIS MAN OUT HE MIGHT BE ON TO SOMETHING
