This show is garbage in every way imaginable. Not one aspect of it is original. Everything is ripped from old movies. Every character is a cliche. Winona looks perpetually worried 24/7 like that's 'good acting'. This show is not engaging or interesting or creative at all. Even the monster looks exactly like the one from aliens. The girl is just a copy of Drew Barrymore in Firestarter, the kids are larping ET copies. The soundtrack is fake-80's. Everything is just plastic shit stained garbage. It's just super shitty in every way, 80's movies were good because they took risks and boldly pushed to new creative dimensions, they were playful and tried out new ideas and were emotive. People just don't make anything emotive anymore and want to go back and dwell in the past. fuck this show and all these sequels prequels, braindead crap.

The CGI this season actually looked worse than last season and there was only one dude working on it then instead of a fucking roomful of people.
Just look at the people the Duffer bros. associate with man, it's all there and why it's such shit.
Season 1 was enough for me, there were too many new characters for 9 episodes and I fucking hate Brett Gelman but even his character had some good shit compared to the gutter punks.

The homages to 80s tropes is part of the show though. Not everything has to be fucking Tarkovsky. Like yeah, the show isn't innovative in any way. But it is entertaining and ballsy in the sense that it's childish, but doesn't treat the audience like morons. I will say the kids can get annoying at times (especially the chubby retarded one), and the CGI is Jumanji tear. But as far as pure flick entertainment goes, I'd say season 1 is like 9/10, season 2 is 7/10.

Looking at their ages this 80s movie homage thing is a bit of a stretch, what's the difference between homage and just ripping off E.T. for the first season?

This season felt all over the place and it's because they hadn't written it all the way out until they were halfway done filming the season. They need to have more structure and flesh things out but I guess the pressure can bring out ideas and turn a "shadow monster" into the Mind Flayer

What does there age have to do with it though? I was 6 in 1999, yet I have seen probably all of the big movies of the 90s, and look back on a bunch with nostalgia. But yeah, I guess you could argue it is pretty much a ripoff of ET, I tried to think of refutation to that but really couldn't.

To me there is something off about their 80s vibe, it's too much 80s movies driven instead of real life experiences and it's a cop out to not have to incorporate any tech aside from those walkie-talkies which get Way better signals in S2 for some reason.
Like I was 11 when Ghostbusters came out and that Winston thing never came up. Plenty of kids liked him because he wasn't a scientist and for some reason All of the kids are into sciencey shit. Not every group of kids is into Exactly the same shit like they are, it's a little too convenient for me.

The point of the sister arc was to get El some training so that her power boost would make sense later. They also laid down some ground work for Season 3. The indian girl will be back, and El will most likely go after her "papa". Only brainlets would have trouble understanding the point.

S2 has massive pacing issues, first 4 or so episodes basically are way too slow then it speeds up to too fast (with E7 being complete filler).

I felt though it had moments scarier than S1 though with the Wiil stuff, the Mind Flayer being recorded on VHS, the moment Will gets grabbed and spazzes on the ground when the burning happens were all way creepier than S1 stuff.
Problem is also too many plot lines go nowhere and are just filler.
Nancy and Jonathon stuff was all mostly pointless filler (since all the people get eaten by Demidogs)
Max and Billy were pointless, (and the digdug arcade stuff was all pointless yet went on for episodes)
Mike was pretty much pointless this season.
The El story was fucking TERRIBLE.
Episode 7 felt like a shitty episode of Dark Angel.
Bringing back the El's father from death.

I still thought it was a enjoyable watch and there were good ideas, but it was way too jumbled and too much shit went nowhere.

Mike was the star of s1 and got left behind in s2 as if he was the one in the nether...
They didn't know what the fuck to do with El... shit I remember reading some fanfic after s1 came out where Brenner survived in the nether and merged with some being in there to be the new villain so it would be Papa v. El.
They really overdid it with the inbetween world this season and use it as a fucking get out of jail free card
