What is the SH-101 of television and film?
What is the SH-101 of television and film?
I don't know, but after watching a couple of youtube clips, I want one.
I finally got mine this week. No other synth compares. It’s perfect.
>No other synth compares.
>Implying there is something magical with stupid oscillators
look kid, there are many great synths out there. In fact, if you know what you're actually doing, the shittiest shit synth will just do fine. Being this much of a faggit synth fanboy is a clear sign of a shitty musician.
Ok great argument. You’ve essentially said nothing. The magic of the SH-101 lies in the filter you moron, which are no longer in production. There’s a reason they don’t go for less than $1200.
>it's the filters stupid
ah yes, other that sweep isn't just right, people totally would notice. Besides, same argument holds. Many great filters out there. So fucking what.
>but my filter doesn't to the gibbs so much
just go drill yourself a hole into your fucking knee
>There’s a reason they don’t go for less than $1200.
Ye, it's a collector's piece, great artists used that particular synth to great success, and then there are way too many morons like you, who think the best synth will make the greatest music.
>only a real 303 can do the sweet ass 303 beeps
I never said it would make the best music. You’re just projecting shit to be an asshole. I’ve owned dozens of synths, many high end, and nothing compares to the immediate satisfaction the 101 brings in my opinion. It’s cliche to say at this point but it is one giant sweet spot. There is literally no reason to be this negative about it. There are some amazing softsynths out there, but not even TAL’s bassline compares if you want the 101 sound.
You could make an amazing album using nothing but ableton’s operator, but if you want the 101 sound you’re not getting it anywhere else, you can get very close, but it won’t be the real thing.
The benefit of this is not so much the sounds which are replicable pretty much on Zebra say, but the tactile hardware which makes it better to use than clicking and dragging mouse knobs and levels
>if you want the 101 sound you’re not getting it anywhere else, you can get very close, but it won’t be the real thing.
See. This is everything wrong with you people.
Every 101 emulation completely falls apart in the higher resonance ranges. This is a completely valid criticism against them. Again, you’re providing no actual argument just trying to be a contrarian asshole.
Stop being hipster cunts and just get a plugin
tal-software.com
>completely falls apart in the higher resonance ranges
The higher resonance ranges, eh? Lemme guess, somewhere above 16KhZ?
It costs 1000 dollars on ebay
>buys future proofing and heavy-duty monster cables
I have the real thing and bassline. It’s not about being a hipster. One sounds like the real thing and one sounds like a digital emulation. Not everyone is poor, some people might enjoy owning the actual thing. Ever think of that? God, anti hardware fags are such cancer.
>anti hardware fags
Noone in this thread so far...
Let me guess, all the new hw synths are shit, because they're basically also just computers/digital. Am I right, or am I right?
No. I own multiple modern digital synths and even some of Rolands boutiques. You’re yet again projecting to be a dick. I’m done replying to you, you’re obnoxious.
> it was real in my head
Where is that from
>Noone in this thread so far...
The guy he replied to who called people 'hipster cunts' for wanting hardware synths, maybe?
Dumb frogposter
Hey man, if you're a collector go ahead. All I'm saying is that emulations are good enough for some really fantastic music. Don't spend $1200 just to make some tunes, unless you get off on it of course.
I never thought I'd find synthfags on Sup Forums.
Here's a better question, though. What's the DX-7 of television and film?
>something ubiquitous, used over and over again 30+ years later
Roland Juno 106
>implying anyone understands FM synthesis
fucking hell
>What's the DX-7 of television and film?
Some kind of funny steel horror instrument, maybe? youtube.com
I've browsed this board for years and no other thread has resonated with me as much as this one. I don't know shit about television and film. But when you listen to some amazing Aphex/Vibert/Squarepusher/Ceephax/etc track and you hear something that sounds like a 303 but definitely is not a 303, it's probably a 101. Amazing, amazing synth.
Why are you getting so frustrated that other people are doing things differently to you? It's not like their choices affect you in any way. What's the problem bud?
>you hear something that sounds like a 303 but definitely is not a 303
kys
how about you kill yourself you stupid fucking frogposter
i know easily 1000x more about synthesizers than you do, so please kindly fuck off
Seinfeld. I can’t remember what gear the guy that made the theme used( there’s a cool video on YouTube of him going through it if you’re interested), but that slap bass always reminds me of the DX7
>he can't make 303-esque basslines on his 101
lmaoing @ ur life desu
it's not fair. THIS ISN'T FAIR!!!
...
>ableton live is shit
>FL studio is shit
what isn't shit bros?
okay, okay, let's hear something, shall we! You, 101 dude! Post a tune, just a riff. Go. Bonus points for 303-esque basslines.
What don’t you like about Ableton? They just announced 10 by the way.
>FL studio is shit
No it isn't. Gol is inerrable.
Ableton is nice too. Doesn't matter anyways
>blaming the tools
you two argue it out
what the fuck are you talking about my dude
>Ableton just announced 10 by the way
>paying for an update of your daw
FL wins.
*blocks your path*
Polynomial C just wouldn’t have been as good with any other synth. That little sequencer is gold.
The new version of Ableton was just announced. What is hard to understand? Unless you’re the other guy I accidentally quoted.
>implying I pay for Ableton
That’s where you’re wrong.
Sweet.
MAGIX MUSIK MAKER > ALL
The most kino digital synthesizer is the Kawai K5000.
I will fight anybody who disagrees with me irl
pirace is wrong, kid. Programmers are people too, and it's okay to be a programmer.
SH-101 is Family Matters
Star Trek Voyager is the V-synth
Miami Vice is Jupiter-8
Nothing personnel, kid.
...
Not even close, lad. The SQ-80 is far superior.
>tfw in a moment of pure stupidity I sold mine for $65 because I wanted to clear some space in my studio
Well that's just fucked up
Never played an SQ-80 but I sold my ESQ-1 for the same reason. Fucking thing was huge. I do miss it, though.
i dont get it
It’s hard to see in that pic but Kanye started posting on twitter and he posted a pic of his computer screen, in those background tabs it was seen that he was searching piratebay for Serum, a nice vst by a company deadmau5 has some part in. Started a pretty funny twitter feud between them. Also proved that even multimillionaires steal software.
>multimillionaire stealing software which costs less than $200
part of me feels thats awfully negro-ish of kanye to pirate shit despite being so rich but part of me also thinks he's pretty based for doing it plus pirating shit is way way more efficient and quicker than buying shit
absolutely brilliant
What's the Minimoog of films?
goddamnit synths are fucking ruined
*teleports behind you*
Why?
>synths
Is there a more numale instrument? Why don't y'all play banjo like real men?
>behringer
Enjoy your shitty build quality lad
I get this post was a joke, but it still annoyed me. Fuck off.
It’s saving me $3000 and giving me the same sound, I wouldn’t care if it came in a cardboard box, desu.
What does this even mean? Literally everything on TV in the 80s used a DX-7 at some point.
so this is what it looks like from the other side?
of what?
>he doesn’t understand FM synthesis
Absolute pleb. FM is the thinking man’s synthesis. Stick to your premade patches, kiddo.
This reminded me of a lame highschool story
>battle of the bands
>there's like 10 bands
>9 of them are mediocre dad-rock, 3-11, or Led Zep covers
>only one group uses synths, exclusively
>they played all original music, very much in the vein of old Kraftwerk, but with more dancefloor rhythm, and a touch of David Bowie 80's synth pop in there
>the lead vocalist crooned like Bowie too
>great stuff
>the audience is losing its shit, dancing and all that
>and then the faggot emcee that nobody likes steps in, cuts in with a microphone and crashes the party
>screams into the microphone
>"THIS ISN'T ROCK AND ROLL YOU GUYS THIS IS TECHNO SHIT. THIS DOESN'T BELONG IN BATTLE OF THE BANDS"
>people are booing to get this faggot off stage
>and then the vocalist cranked the volume control to full blast, got in front of the vocoder and sang "You suck. Go awaaaaay" into the microphone, with chorus effects and a touch of oscillation at the end
>kino
of autism. I am a fag of a different technical area and I suppose this is what my arguments look like.
>>"THIS ISN'T ROCK AND ROLL YOU GUYS THIS IS TECHNO SHIT. THIS DOESN'T BELONG IN BATTLE OF THE BANDS"
i bet that was you and your subconscious crafted this bizarre scenario of you being a third party to deal with the repressed embarrassment lmao
>the thinking man’s synthesis
Exactly. Because developing any kind of intuition about FM synthesis (I mean, with a bit more than single a carrier and a modulator) is fucking impossible. Anyways. What's the best FM synth, and why is it Sytrus?
What the fuck is this thread even about? Anyway one of my favorite tracks featuring the SH-101
B-But...this mis my baby...
>one of my favorite tracks
wow, that was fucking gay. BOOOOOOHH
nah it's decent
this fucking sucks
what do you listen to mate
But that sweet ass 101 sounds, amaright?
i don't even like it and know it's better than whatever you listen to
These days? Lots of Vladisav Delay, Autechre, Markus Güntner, Tetsu Inoue, Plastikman, the usual stuff...
>Lots of Vladisav Delay, Autechre, Markus Güntner, Tetsu Inoue, Plastikman, the usual stuff...
>muh IDM
At least you didn't say Aphex, who wouldn't even be making music if it weren't for 808 state
>Aphex
I like his ambient works. Markus Güntner, Tetsu Inoue are hardly IDM. Check it.
808 State is super gay
>Autechre
Fat chance Richard gives a fuck about that shit. That song was literally cheesy 80s sax nonsense.
sounds like the soundtrack for an educational VHS tape from the early 90s, and no not in a good way
I keep listening to good old classics like Amber, Chiastic Slide, Incunabula, ... not really too happy with their later/-st works. I think they're trying way too fucking hard. Asshats.
>Of all those artists to pick out you chose fucking Autechre
Lol
Ew wtf is this.
Maybe the most subtile troll. Ever.
Huh?
>this fucking sucks
lol
>he doesn't know about 808 state
