Why does goodfellas and the gangster movie genre appeal to me so much? Is it a sense of community and belonging with deeply loyal outlaw groups that draws me in? Or is it a false sense of masculinity where a man succeeds by flouting conceptions and laws that would have held them back in mediocrity and gaining wealth and excess that I crave?

Casino is great but it felt too claustrophobic for me. Every scene felt very closed in, save for the desert.

The only reason I put Goodfellas over Casino is because it came first, so I feel like it’s more original. Also Goodfellas was just more fun to watch the first time. I’ll never be as interested in a movie as I was the first time I saw that. No movie lives up to that, it’s like your first high.
