I am ruski and I hate that shit. I hate the way he speaks, I hate his "wise simpleton" mindset. Literally the only good things are music and kinda gritty atmosphere.

As for me, my best picks are Downhouse and Solaris. Complete opposites tonally and thematically, so I cant pick one.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Stalker. The thematic elements are extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of the human condition, most of the dialogue will go over a typical viewer’s head. There’s also Writer’s nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation- his personal philosophy draws heavily from Narodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these conversations, to realise that they’re not just the ramblings of tormented men- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Stalker truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn’t appreciate, for instance, the pathos in Stalker’s existential catchphrase “For me it is prison everywhere!,” which itself is a cryptic reference to Dostoevsky's Russian epic "Notes from Underground". I’m smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Andrei Tarkino’s genius vision unfolds itself on their television screens. What fools.. how I pity them.

I think that trash caused the crime to go up a notch. Just when the 90s crime explosion was fading away, they made this shit. I was at middleschool just when it was airing and the dumbasses were LARPing brigada, forming gangs, stealing and all that. So the kids who couldnt remember the horrors of 90's were made to think its cool to be a honourable gangsta.
