Always thought he should live abroad
He always wanted to do that since he got fucked up, but thought someone should at least get something from his life.
He wanted to take a journey into the unknown just like vincent.
>tfw jerome was more of a brother to vincent that antoine
>remake the movie with Ryan Goosling
>Gattaca 2049
Depression is an inability to construct a future.
It's possible to live abroad
He can move around on his own now
Vincent wouldn't mind getting exposed in space
He should really run for it
I pray that film producers just forget this film was ever made. It needs no revision.
>Produced by Danny Devito
This gets me for some reason.
They needed a hack ending for a hack movie.
It's literally numale garbage.
>man u just gonna believe lol
Helping Vincent was the only thing he was living for anymore.
What else was he going to do? His journey was complete, whereas Vincent's was just beginning anew.
Been a while since I've seen this, but didn't he kill himself in a gruesome way like burning alive? Why would you choose to go out like that?
I thought the point of the scene he climbed up stairs is to show that now he can motivate himself
He wasted his potential and now it's his turn to find something important to do
Every time I talk about this movie I think the suicide is a flaw
so there was no body to be found and Vincent could totally assume his identity upon returning
Why not kill himself in a less gruesome way and then just leave instructions on destroying the evidence? Death by fire fucking sucks
Dude, you'll feel it for 1-2 seconds and it's over
That's how he shows his superhuman will power
All this will power for a secret suicide. Heroic and dumb.
Implying Vincent won't die of a heart attack for being a genetic failure
I interpreted it as showing the consequences of a society who strives to be perfect. His inability to be genetically perfect from being crippled damaged him mentally so much that he decided to just kill himself. He could not imagine a life where he wasn't perfect. Being imperfect was a taboo for him and he couldn't accept it. In other words, just bee urself
If he was going to die from his heart problem he already would have done
Oh, I agree, Vincent is probably going end up fucking that mission over due to dying in space, but at that point it doesn't really matter, he had already achieved his dream and gave everyone, his brother, society, etc., the middle finger. He'll have his shitty heart attack/failure, but he has already won in his mind.
I disagree. He was already on borrowed time. His test heart monitor treadmill test thing scene pretty much proved it, he nearly died there and then. He is still genetically fuck and his heart will give out sooner or later.
i always thought the one flaw in the movie was that he didn't die from the heart condition at the end. It could have been a mature movie about life's purpose being the journey and making the best of what you have, instead it was LUL JUST BELIEVE BRO YOU CAN WORK THROUGH GENETICS BRO
Just because we don't see his death on screen, doesn't mean it isn't going to happen. That's not the point, but he is still as good as dead due to his shitty heart.
I could've sworn the movie ended with him having a heart attack during the launch.
Are you forgetting the fact that he beat his brother at swimming?
one of the most feely movies i ever watched desu
Only because they were going out "too far". His brother, genetically speaking, could have easily kept going and Vincent would've probably ended up having a heart attack in the water. That is not the point of that scene. Vincent has the 'heart' (not the muscle but the concept) to keep going beyond the limit, whereas Anton lacked the 'heart' to keep going.
How does one imagine something so totally off?
Angelina Jolie cut her breasts because of genetic screening
no the point was vincent didnt give a shit about coming back, he didnt save anything for the return trip, unlike his brother
the point was fuck it, do it anyway
>he had already achieved his dream and gave everyone, his brother, society, etc., the middle finger.
He didn't because the society still thinks it's his genetics because dumb Jerome didn't blow it wide open on Earth
Which, if we continue the metaphor of:
>he didnt save anything for the return trip
the Vincent is very much going to die in space. The return trip is/was never important. It is getting to the other side (or space in this case) without worrying about being able to come back.
TLDR, Vincent is dead in space.
>vincent didnt give a shit about coming back
Another hint that he would not make it back
Sad news for his black and Korean colleague
No he didn't "win" anything for the genetically inferior as a whole, but his personal victory of making it into Gattaca and space in spite of his inferiority is the middle finger to that society. Only all of like four people know about it, Vincent himself, Anton, the real (and dead) Jerome, and the doctor who clears him anyway at the end. His goal wasn't to change the society he lived in, it was to prove to himself (and possibly his brother) that he could achieve more than what genetics predicted of him. That he made it was his big 'fuck you' to that society, again even if hardly anyone knew about it. And they would actually probably find out about it upon his death in space due to his bad heart.
The better question is, "Why does the incinerator have both a handle on the inside of it, and more importantly, a way to turn it on from the inside?" That is poor design, unless it was actually meant for suicide purposes, which raises even more questions.
Good question showing it's a hack movie doing shit for shocking value
How come they never think of things like this when making movies?
He didn't have a bad heart.
Because he had literally nothing left to live for
I mean, the inside handle I can understand, for the same reason that walk-in freezers have one, although those are intended to be walked into. I supposed the incinerator was "intended" to be used as we see Vincent use it to get inside and scrape off as much of his own loose skin, hair, etc. so an handle inside makes sense. But, why even have the ability to turn it on from the inside?!? What if Vincent accidentally hit that button while doing his thing inside it? That is definitely a terrible design flaw.

This says otherwise.
maybe he turned on the gas, got inside and used a lighter
it probably had a timer function
Pretty sure they thought of that they just think people are too dumb to ask this question
Angelina Jolie cut her breasts because of genetic screening
The movie is anti technology basically
Again nope, see:
>the flames reflecting off the silver medal make it look gold
too deep
