How come renowned actors who star in critically acclaimed movies or shows suddenly decide to star in schlock? Like, take Peter Dinklage for example. He went from Game of Thrones to fucking Pixels. Another example: Patrick Stewart: went from Shakespearean theater to the emoji movie. Do they not feel absolutely embarrassed? Where's their dignity?

A paycheck with two commas probably does the trick.

Work is work.

> hey here's 10 million dollar

From Game of Thrones & Star Trek to big budget Hollywood movies wow how the mighty have fallen

>evidence that they're not delusional about their own qualities or contributions

they're not making any sense!

Pixels and The Emoji Movie both grossed almost a quarter of a billion dollars. 99.99% of working actors would cut off their genitals if it meant having a prominent roles in those movies.

>Hey here's a fat paycheck just to come and show your face on set for a couple of days
Would you seriously say no to that?

>Game of Thrones

it's shit, and strangely not every movie need a midget

>actor goes from flick to kino

It's a paycheck, and itäs work. Good roles are always far and few between. You also don't get to be as choosy once you're old.

>Patrick Stewart: went from Shakespearean theater to the emoji movie.

The dude did Star Trek and capeshit. That already "ruined his career" by your standards, and that happened over two fucking decades ago. Stewart doesn't give a fuck, he's having fun on TV and movie work, it doesn't matter to him since is shit compared to his more renowned stage roles which he still does frequently. He was superb on Pinter's No Man's Land play that he did with McKellen not that long ago, not that you'd have ever even gone to see it.

Pretty sure it's got to do with what that porky ginger Jew Ryan Kavanagh refers to as "the moneyball".

>The dude did Star Trek and capeshit

I don't know about you, but I think there's a pretty big divide between playing a well known character like Professor X or starring in famous franchises like Star Trek compared to playing "Poop Emoji"

lmao look at this fuckin hipster everyone

All three are media aimed at manchildren. If you think an animated movie is somehow degrading, so is capeshit. Let's not forget Stewart appeared in Wolverine Origins and X3: Last Stand, both absolutely shitty movies.

>emoji movies
>for manchildren

>Do you want enough money to ensure you'll never have to work again, and pretty much be able to pay your way into or out of any situation you could think of?

Gee, I wonder.

peter dinklage is a midget, he is happy as long as noone is trying to drown him in a well or cast him as a goblin

Sam L struggled his way up the ladder and used to be a junkie. Which is half the reason he is pissed black brits are taking roles from black americans.

It's sad and hilarious that he is right and nobody will listen. Since they're still hiring blacks, just from different countries.

Dude was obviously always a great actor why isn't he in more kino

>trying to drown him in a well

Is this the common way to kill midgets?

It's their job. As romantic the notion of actors acting to ensure their legacy and create something of genuine value is, most of them view it as work and being in something good as a privilege rather than a requirement for taking a job.

After that Kingsman travesty, he deserves to not work again. Movie might have even been tolerable without that fagtastic "villain". Might.

Fuck him.

$$$

>when the only movies you ever starred in were certified kino

Daddy's Home 2 will always be remembered as the crown jewel of his filmography.

Even "What Women Want"? You are allowed to have some stinkers if you have been working a long time.

Stewart is basically the only star wars actor that people (aside from trekkies) respect. And that wasn't a given when TNG started airing.

Wars, Trek, whatever

you joke about mel, but I honestly cannot think of a single movie eastwood has been in that can be considered "undignified". Eastwood has such a large fucking filmography and one of the best track records in the industry.

Not even the ones with the monkey? Pink Cadillac? The Rookie? Blood work?

Semi-related but Jackie brown had a scene that was a perfect representation of De Niro's career

spoilers duh

To me, those are just movies that ended up being bad, that doesn't mean they are undignified.

>when all the films you've ever started in have won best picture

The rookie features a scene where a woman tries to rape Clint, who is tied to a chair.

if you were a woman, wouldn't you try to?

In terms of Classically trained actors, they’re trained to never turn down a role and to do the best they can with it.
The mentality sticks later on, even when they can just do whatever the fuck they want. Actors with that work ethic tend to be the ones that are treasured, and people generally forgive them for being in shit movies because they’re generally the only entertaining but in it, or even single handedly turn it into so bad it’s good. Actors like Tim Curry and Christopher Walken are good examples of this

Others just like a big pay check and phoning it in. They generally fade into obscurity later, as producers and audiences alike realise they think they’re too good for certain roles.
This is especially true of one role wonder actors.

>it's an "user doesn't know what money is" episode

I'd play a goblin if I was a midget.

It's more about how the entire scene is portrayed, since Clint directed the movie. He could have done it in a number of ways and the result is just... there are no words for it.

I mean, the entire movie is hilariously bad (one of the first movies to use really bad early era CGI in an explosion stunt) but the rape scene where she's assaulting Eastwood is depicted as if it's more of a hindrance on Clint, like he had a stone in his boot, instead of any type of real assault. And the guy is like sixty at this point.

maybe im greatly overestimating how much money these actors have, but whats another million to these actors who already have millions?

I guess there is a compulsion in seeing the number in the bank account staying stable or growing. Its like that for me and I havent got much. Id say theres a fair few frugal celebrities SLJ strikes me as one

Their upkeep costs tend to be massive.
The smart ones tend to invest, so it’s nice to have something to play with.
The dumb ones piss it away so quickly that they need more and more.

Sometimes those investments get fucked over, like we saw with the Bernie Madoff scandal where several A-list names learned their savings were fucked over by the Ponzi scheme.

Here's the answer no one wants to acknowledge: those actors were already schlock-tier. They're not great men going to schlock for a paycheque - they're schlock men doing great works for a paycheque. All you need to do is peek into these guys social lives to see what they are: dopers, pseuds and autists who unironically enjoy Adam Sandler films.
