Japanese dubs of cartoons

Haven't had this thread in a while. What cartoons have Japanese dubs that you like?

Mine has no voice acting, but it's a nice song.

why are japanese OPs so good

I heard that ATLA B3 wasn't dubbed in Japanese until last year because anime obviously couldn't compete

I always skip them

Star Vs. has a great dub.
youtube.com/watch?v=ssOEda6Os7o

>Marco is Jonathan Joestar
that's pretty neat

>I heard that ATLA B3 wasn't dubbed in Japanese until last year

The dub got cancelled early into Book 2. They continued the dub with 90% of the original cast last year as a Netflix exclusive.

For the best. Mainstream Japanese audiences hated ATLA because they viewed it as anti-Japanese propaganda. Putting it on Netflix makes it more niche so only those diligently interested in foreign animation will seek it out, rather than it getting mixed in with "inoffensive" foreign cartoons on a satellite network.

>anti-Japanese propaganda
why?

Lion king 2
Dem ponehs

Fire Nation is Japan-like

Fire Nation resembled Japanese more than other nations.

>Jonathan Joestar
You think Marco will learn some sick Hannon techniques?

Fire Nation. Each Kingdom in Avatar is based on a different Oriental culture. The evil imperialistic Fire Nation, who invade, conquer and oppress the other nations, is based on Japan.

The Japanese are EXTREMELY sensitive about how foreign media portrays them and routinely ban or censor outside media that satirizes or criticizes them. The episode of the Simpsons where they visit Japan is banned from home video and broadcast. Likewise, multiple episodes of South Park that made fun of Japan were skipped on TV and DVD.

The fact that they're finishing ATLA via Netflix is actually really surprising; usually they're so strict about that stuff it would have been banned from release forever.

Nickelodeon channel had been cancelled in Japan
like 10 years ago.

They use them to shill for Idols, some of them aren't even meant for the particular show.

Pussies.

That is actually some pretty big names in there. What kinda budget do these dubs have?

Gumball is pretty popular in Japan and the same VA as Naruto

youtube.com/watch?v=PlqBt__7KZM

Thats pretty much every asian country. Sensitive as fuck.

You'd think they could take what they dish.

>What kinda budget do these dubs have?

The Disney kind.

I'm pretty sure it's on Amazon, not Netflix.

Unless you mean both? Though I think it's an Amazon original anyways.

youtube.com/watch?v=8RlWeFW3Kkg

This is my favorite episode of DiU

I'm guessing the fact that ATLA is set in a different world, and doesn't use real world country names, was likely an important factor.

>The dub got cancelled early into Book 2.
Are you sure about that?
IIRC it was completed just in time before the channel shut down, though I've also read otherwise.

Jimmy from Edd Ed and Eddy had the most perfect voice. I was stunned for a moment when I heard it.

I'm not gay I swear

>Edd Ed and Eddy

BUMP I need answers people

youtube.com/watch?v=AVbUE7rxEoA

There's a full version too. This is some of the comfiest tv music I've ever heard.

how about ones that arnt good at all?
youtube.com/watch?v=9ccsxo52q2s

>people just believing this guy at face value without any concrete evidence

Sup Forums is truly the most gullible board.

He's right on some of the facts about the show's release in Japan, at least.

Then why dont you set the record straight, sir?

You're right, Amazon not Netflix.

They completed the dub of Book 2 during the original recording, but only broadcast up through the first few episodes, so the rest of the dubbed episodes went unseen. Amazon only had to dub Book 3 since no recording had been completed on that season.

Those voices are pretty on point.

so wait, are the Gems male in Japan?

...

King of the Hill is my favorite anime
nviewer.mobi/player?video_id=sm7385863

I dunno, they gave Garnet a male voice even though shes clearly female in shape. But then when you remeber how many anime's have effeminate males I guess they got confused.

thank you user
here, have a GIF

at least their good songs though

I wish I had the other pictures that got made

They are not.

The singing itself seems a little bit off, but the voices are on point.

Rick and Morty? The Japanese choose the weirdest shit to dub.

They dubbed Home Movies:

youtu.be/9WcCCNyK9r8

But not Futurama? Plebs.

SEMEN
DEMON

Abby sounds familiar...

god damn that hip swing and adding the jap dub just makes me harder

Not Sup Forums but you never see threads like this on Sup Forums
youtube.com/watch?v=hqTwi5BvUMI

Oh fuck, there's a Japanese dub of Seinfeld. And it doesn't sound half bad.

Well, she IS Japanese.

God look how 80's this is.

Spongebob needs a redub, they cast a woman as Patrick and Plankton and they dint sound that fitting.

>Square Bantz

What did they mean by this?

This is the first I'm hearing about this.

That's a woman as Garnet. Mitsuki Saiga and she has the deepest voice a woman has ever had.

The GOAT theme.

youtu.be/rZUs3XQ6fuY

youtube.com/watch?v=YEMbIoKPbyA
Surprised they didnt get Jenny's original voice actor considering she speaks Japanese,

It's so Shounen I love it!

Okay, thanks for clearing that up. Still does'nt explain why other countries paint Garnet as super masculine though, she has the softest voice to the other gems.

youtube.com/watch?v=TANVaUwCK98
beast boy is the worst one

Saiga can sing might be a factor. She is capable of going higher sounding. Personally I think Megumi Ogata would have fit Garnet more.

Probably because she's American.

Is there a japanese dub of this?
youtube.com/watch?v=ZsZ1FED4zn4&t=339s

f a m what are you on, those voices are on fucking point

Wasn't Eddy voiced by Onizuka and Okuyasu voice actor?

That was a season 4 episode, and Ed, Edd & Eddy got cancelled in Japan after season 2.

>ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/エド_エッド_エディ

the fact that the captions and dub don't match bothers me. i know that subs and dubs aren't usually consistent but it's really irksome to watch

The Simpsons in Japanese is trippy.

They are used to eat up run time so might as well use that saved moolah for something good to hype up the episode. US shows have forgotten that for the most part.. fucking Thundercats 2011

youtube.com/watch?v=8dGGY_JpYAo
tfw Gumball is Naruto and Darwin is Blackstar

Is RWBY cheating?
youtube.com/watch?v=jBj1b5ErphE

spot on voices, holy shit.

The delightful children sound incredibly creepy in Japanese.

This show was actually more popular in Japan.

youtube.com/watch?v=DukqGL4E-5U&index=8&list=PLDkodzycIHvNJ0_4kuEoqNf7rLKIdztZ8

They gave Misery a sort-of Yamato Nadeshiko kind of voice but it's still pretty good.

Yup.

fuck it makes RWBY like 50% better

50% of 0 is still 0 user

youtube.com/watch?v=Hab8cfQt5lk
It works

>wwhooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooah

Wrong board, faggot.

It's still a cartoon user

I miss pre-wing Twi

youtube.com/watch?v=TnCfXm0Xzbk

i hate the jap dub because they had to cut scenes out of every episode to make room for their fucking OPs and EDs

Holy shit these voices range from mediocre to terrible.

The Gravity Falls' Japanese dub is pretty good. Mabel's voice was cute.

thats funny, in the LA dub Gumball also has the same VA as Naruto

They eventually stop dubbing the songs except for special cases like this.

horrendous

Holy shit Abby's voice.

Damn, now I gotta see what the rest sound like
gonna be disappointed if flutters isn't the cutest sounding one

that's fucking dumb. they never dubbed songs that feature dress horse prominently due to her va's contract
she also happens to be the least known va of the group, which just sucks a whole bag of dicks

Why does the voice acting in cartoons dubbed in Japanese sound better than the voice acting in anime?
It sounds more natural vs. Anime which usually sounds way less natural and often times exaggerated for moe.

They've also dubbed all four Equestria Girls long after the main series was cancelled. Commissioned by Netflix Japan, the first two EqG movies proved popular enough to warrant a dub of the third, and recently the fourth. No song dubs though.

Sunset Shimmer
youtube.com/watch?v=deA08_zvdG8&t=2s

Twilight Sparkle/Midnight Sparkle (Midnight Sparkle gains her own voice in the 4th movie)
youtube.com/watch?v=ORV55rBXwWo&t=5s

The Dazzlings
youtube.com/watch?v=4_mhQ4_oma0

The Shadowbolts
youtube.com/watch?v=BD160AE8_CY

Because cartoons are way more expressive in their movements, so the voice actors are instructed to reflect that.
