You're being obtuse on purpose.
"Marco is learning about Jackie, it's just off-screen" doesn't mean anything if we never see the results of that affecting their relationship on-screen.
They're not actually making any progress until we see that progress happen, or at least the results of that progress. Their dates have all been basic couples stuff, plus skateboarding. As far as we can tell, Marco still doesn't know Jackie any better after three dates than he did when they went to the movies. She got throwaway lines about her interests beyond skateboarding, but they haven't been explored, so they're hardly worth more than fluff on a character bio.
