>Oscars are shit
Yeah, people have known that fact for a very long time and that's why they keep getting lower and lower ratings every year.

Visually piper was more appealing but Borrowed Time makes up for that in emotion.

Borrowed Time was interesting animation that wasn't blatantly for kids but Piper was just so gorgeous, and also evocative- just in more of the "this is so cute I want to vomit" way.

Maybe that could explain why there were so many mistakes. Since it made news and got people interested. Engineered drama. Seems plausible.

The Oscars are the equivalent of a Grandma who likes movies because they're "cute" and dislikes movies because she doesn't know what's going on.

neither are that good really. What else got nominated?

Also, somebody post that thing from the oscar ballot the year frozen came out that's basically all "my kids liked it" "i abstain" or "i'm so pretentious and full of myself that i refuse to give animation any respect despite the massive effort put into it"

Piper is a film about nothing

Don't forget the part about not voting for chingchong shit

youtube.com/watch?v=DksTejjWDMc

It's really cute and Astoundingly well animated, I might have voted for it on the sole merit that it probably got the most reaction out of me.

Really? I thought piper was shit. I mean, borrowed time really hurt me because i still feel suicidal, so having such emotion in a short film is not an easy task.

Nobody in the Academy watches animation. They just cast their vote for whatever the fuck Disney/Pixar cranked out in the past year and call it good.

I think I missed that one.

>so many mistakes
Like that shitlord Casey Affleck getting an award instead of prison.

...

...wait, Borrowed Time was nominated? That's bizarre.

That was a totally unremarkable short featuring a contrived "tragedy" driven mainly by total retardation, just so it could try to crudely yank on the audience's heartstrings.

It was painfully simple. It didn't so much hit the right notes as jam its finger down on a single key and wait the audience out.

It's the sort of thing I'd expect from an animation posted online as part of a technical student project, just much better animated. It's only notable for being tangentially associated with Disney. The main lesson here is Don't Let Animators Write.

Now, Kubo, that was robbed. I liked Zootopia, but Kubo was gorgeous stop motion. Its ending was the only (slight) letdown. Give Laika some Oscars, you fucks.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Academy_Award_for_Best_Animated_Short_Film

The only Laika films that deserved Oscars were Coraline and Paranorman. As mindbogglingly beautiful as Kubo was its story really let it down after the first act.

It tells a story about overcoming a fear and growing for it entirely without dialogue.
user, it has merits.

I'm betting that those were the only two nominees you saw, OP.

>mfw I stopped giving a shit about the Oscar when Kimi No Na Wa got shafted of a Best Animated Feature nomination

This short is shit.
The Oscars always makes the right decision.

Wait, it wasn't even nominated? WOW.

Its just misery porn, why would Sup Forums care?
