For Conan: 1. Actually base the movie on the friggen' book. Fuck, even the recent comic book adaptation is a goldmine. 2. Conan's role needs to be played by someone of actual European descent, and has black hair and blue eyes. These guys do exist, and Hollywood needs to stop nepotist-fagging it up. 3. Your COnan doesn't need to be Schwarzeneager-swole, but mofo, at least try to make him tall, beefy and ripped. Otherwise the illusion completely dies.

When she's telling him to give up on doing the honorable thing and just to run away with her. The whole way that played out is great. If it were made today, he'd still have left, but then apologized for it later, and said he'll never leave her again, giving her complete control over him.

But in 82, he leaves, she follows, because that's how it actually works in a world that makes sense. She ends up acting pretty damn honorably, too. I don't understand all the complaints I've heard about this movie specifically. It's always mentioned as the film that shows everything "wrong" with "toxic masculinity" of the 70s and 80s, but Valeria was a solid and likeable female protagonist.

Not really. Race is approached in a lot of interesting ways in Howard's stories. One example would be the story The People of the Dark where an Irish pirate attacks a Briton village, wants to bring a Briton girl back for sex and marriage, would make her a queen in his land, but she's escaping with her lover, he tracks them into a cave where subhuman snakepeople from ancient times live, and they forget their racial differences and ally to survive the creatures. Howard was race conscious, but I honestly don't think it ended up mattering to him in the way it might have meant to someone like Lovecraft. Howard had his view of tribal savages and such, and freely talked and wrote how people degraded into barbarism, but at the same time, those men, he believed, were much more free and living a true life than he or the civilization he saw as inherently weak.

It's almost as if these concepts and people's individual ideas of them are all different and complex.

In the stories it's sometimes mentioned Conan becomes king of the nation of Aquilonia by his own hand, but even then Howard hinted that wasn't the end of his adventures.
