Personally, I thought they were going for that D-Grade, Gymkata vibe. The weird dent in his chest and the stuffed crotch seemed like references to the usual protagonists in that sort of movie. But they hit their mark a little too well. It's just as boring as those movies can be outside of the fight scenes.
