Is anything worse then being a teen sidekick of a legacy hero...

Is anything worse then being a teen sidekick of a legacy hero? They will never take on the mantel of there predecessor permanently as they will always come back and never retire. Wall held on the longest and the thanks he got was written out of existence.

Wally could have made it if Johns didn't have such a fucking silver age nostalgia boner.

Wally deserved better. he held the mantel for so long then they bring back barry and he appeared maybe twice after that. That then flash point then gone.

And gets killed in citizen cold.

I can see why they redesigned/racebent Aqualad for the YJ show, he looks like a 35 year old sephardi jew.

So did Jericho, good fucking god.

They had their moment in the 90's

>Wally actually got to be Flash,
>Aqualad was the normal fish guy while Aquaman was doing his pirate hobo things
>Speedy was a solo book character for about a month or two

But Donna was in a pseudo limbo and Robin was passed over for being Batman for some totally newly invented character for a few years. He got to be Bats in 09'ish for a short while though. Now Gordoon gets to be Batman for even longer than him.

Dickbats was best bats

There was a time when comic books was for little boys and the kid sidekick was a big sell

now comic books are for 35-year-old memelords and the little kid thing doesn't go over so well. Take Miles Morales for example. Everyone want Miles to get raped and then decapitated and then never seen again. so

If you are Dick fan, sure you will think he's the best.

That has been an issue with comic artists for a long time now. for some reason they were totally incapable of depicting a teen aged hero that looked any younger than mid 30's at best until about 10-15 years ago.

I had a lot of trouble seeing New Warriors as a bunch of 15-17 year olds when they have the exact same size and body type as every other hero in the setting.

Speedball was 15 and supposed to be the scrawny little 90lb weakling of the group too, they even called him skinny and toothpick every other panel.

Marvel Boy and Firestar were 16, Night Thrasher was 17, and I think Nova and Namorita were 18-ish. Namorita being in her 40's but physically 18 and a freshman in college.

>Everyone want Miles to get raped and then decapitated and then never seen again
Not really, there are some people who hate him with a passion, some who like him, and some people who would like him to be more interesting and less reliant on his 1-hit-KO move.
Besides seems a bit disingenuous to put the hate entirely on him being a kid, some other kid heroes seem to go over better with Sup Forums (Ms. Marvel, Blue Beetle, ANGR notably).

TO be fair. Dick left the shadow of teen sidekick and did his own thing

Night Thrasher was supposed fucking 17? Wasn't he the head of his own company or something?
I remember reading his mini around that time and thinking he was like 40. He even had a sidekick who looked and behaved much younger than him.

They shouldn't. Wally isn't flash. Dick isn't Batman. Donna isn't Wonder Woman. They should become their own heroes, like Dick did with Nightwing. And look at him now, getting a movie of himself. He proved himself of being able to hold people interest without having to dress up as one of the original iconic heroes. The only reason why people would want them to take over is because they want them to be more relevant to more storylines/ and or bias against the other heroes they are trying to be. But clearly if they can't even hold the interest of people themselves, they don't deserve to to replace them.

Being Dick is being eternally passed over for that promotion and always seeing it go to some other unqualified asshole.

Jean Paul Valley shows up out of nowhere and takes it while wearing bright yellow armor

Jason puts on the bat suit before Dick

Gordon takes it and wears anime themed armor

And now some illegitimate little bastard is next in line to take it.

He was an edgy teen that dropped out of private highschool to go be a superhero in the beginning of New Warriors. But yea a teenager that inherited his family company after they were murdered. He was then tutored by his two mentors after that.

He has a way too similar to Batman origin that Marvel tried to spice up by adding in some weird Vietnamese death cult for his parents and a few other people.

>some weird Vietnamese death cult
I imagine that's when this guy came in?
I only remember liking his design as a kid.

This man speaks the truth comic companies need to create new heroes instead of trying to replace an old hero

Kamala Khan shouldn't be Ms.Marvel she isn't related at all to the Marvel legacy and her powers have fuck all to do with them, but she is a mildly interesting character and people like her pretty well she could be her own hero instead of taking the name off an established character

The same goes for Jane Foster, Riri Williams, Amadeus Cho, and Sam Wilson though i have less of a problem with that one and others who got shoved into the role of an established character to fill a diversity quota when they could've been someone new and interesting

>And look at him now, getting a movie of himself
Yeah, from the same company who think it's a good idea to give Cyborg his own movie too.

>But clearly if they can't even hold the interest of people themselves, they don't deserve to to replace them
Though, I definitely agree with this.

The Marvel legacy hasn't been worth protecting in 30 years. Nobody likes Carol, and nobody likes Phyla or Mar's other kid.
The rest, sure.

They have been tossing around the Captain Marvel name for years.

Monica Rambeau had the name for a while too while also having a totally different powerset and was unrelated to anything before her named Marvel.

Both of Mar Vell's kids had it, then some random skrull, then some random Kree that may or may not be dead atm.

>Marvel tried to spice up by adding in some weird Vietnamese death cult for his parents and a few other people.
And the he kills the big bad by pulling out a machine gun and unloading into their back during their gloating.

Night Thrasher sure was something.

He was armored black Batman who used a skateboard and had an uzi tucked away just in case shit got real.

>Jason puts on the bat suit before Dick

Dick originally put on the batsuit after Jean Paul Valley. Bruce beat him but still needed to recover so Dick filled in

>then some random Kree that may or may not be dead atm.
No he went back to being Marvel Boy, fucked Kate Bishop for a while and bummed around with the Young Avengers, and now he's taking the Inhumans to space so that they can get more Terrigen

Johns likes Wally more than Barry.

He was told to bring Barry back so they could put his name on it. He promised up and down Wally would still be relevant and get his own book and shit. All the Wally shitting was people over his head, particularly Didio, who never liked Wally or Nightwing or anyone in that generation.

>Is anything worse then being a teen sidekick of a legacy hero?

Yes.

Being a separate character that gets shoehorned into the teen sidekick role because they sort of share a powerset, to be promoted the legacy mantle role, to be killed so they can put the guy that was wearing the costume when I was kid back in the costume even if it means bringing a bunch of people back from the dead. And then they don't bring you back.

Fuck's sake DC.

He was always kind of in the teen sidekick role. He's Barry's grandson. Being Bart is suffering, though.

he was never really slated to be a Flash though, despite being Barry's grandson. The suddenly he was all hype about being a kid flash right at the end of his run so they could shoehorn him into that weird Titans run that was basically a YJ reunion minus half the original characters.

>mfw one of Bart's biggest abilities was that he didn't get affected by timeline changes because he was an anomaly.
>tfw he should have been regular old YJ Bart when nu52 hit. Instead whatever the fuck Bar Torr was supposed to be.

WHERE'S MY BART DC?

I miss when comics were fun.

Wally wanted Bart to be his replacement though and only picked Jesse because he's a dick

>>mfw one of Bart's biggest abilities was that he didn't get affected by timeline changes because he was an anomaly.
>>tfw he should have been regular old YJ Bart when nu52 hit. Instead whatever the fuck Bar Torr was supposed to be.

Bart Allen died in flash point in his mini he sacrificed himself to help Barry fix the time line. So he may have been regular Bart when nu52 hit but he was dead.

>For the YJ show
>Being this casual
Black Aqualad had been a thing for a while before YJ

He was created for the show first, but due to the nature of cartoons taking forever to come out, he debuted in the comics first.
