It's an incredibly dated referenced episode

>It's an incredibly dated referenced episode

Was the reference already dated at the time.

And yet it still managed to be better than the CC episodes.

>"Like the Kardashians!"

But we still don't have AI waifus yet.

The Hobbit was a good SP episode though

To be completely fair it makes sense that the guy frozen in time since the 90s would pick a celebrity girlfriend that was popular in the 90s.

Sure, but how many people remember Napster?

Millions of people over 25

Napster may be a dated reference, but what makes the episode work is that Napster itself isn't the core of the parody. The episode stays relevant because it's largely focused on referencing the idea of internet piracy in general while only using Napster as a joke for the company name.

Did they ever follow up on that ending?

Unlike, say, basing an entire episode around Apple, iPhones, Twitter and Susan Boyle.

Be honest, Sup Forums
If this existed and you could do this with your waifu, would you?

>Electro-Gonorrhea: The Noisy Killer
>Spacepope
>Observations about AI and custom sex robots have a negative impact of society
Come on, there are parts that hold up extremely well.

>Please pick me up before you go-go

>And yet it still managed to be better than the CC episodes.
Fuck you. Except for a weak start, CC episodes were fucking awesome.

Lucy Liu is eternal user.

But it makes complete sense in the story. Fry comes from the year 1999 so he's going to have crushes on celebrities from 1999. If he was from the 60s, he'd have probably chosen Marilyn Monroe or Audrey Hepburn.

There's also the fact that the biggest running joke in the show is that a story based in the year 3000 has constant references to the 90s/00s.

You couldn't fucking stop me. Besides, my waifu is already a robot.

There are serious concerns that it might destroy Japan once and for all.

Or a whole episode spoof of the Da Vinci Code.
Or a whole episode about a piece of gay legislation from few years back.

>It's amazing the way you NOTICE TWO THINGS.

The episode is fine.

>Japan keeps pushing the "fucking breed" agenda
>Japan's birthrates are actually steadily growing
>Inventor creates a way to bring waifu's to the 3D realm
>ThisKillsJapan.png

>Fry referencing something that he literally shouldn't be able to know the existence of
>just to shoehorn in a stupid topical pop culture reference
It's shit like this that made me hate the revival seasons

>>Japan keeps pushing the "fucking breed" agenda

Is it just me, or is there a lot more emphasis, especially in dialogue, in doujins about the joys of nakadashi than say five year ago?

Of course. My genes are too shit to pass on so its not like humanity would suffer from me not reproducing. If anything it'd stop me from joining the beta uprising.

WOULD I?

> It's a Y2K episode

Kidnapster is a dated reference?

>his head is frozen somewhere with Walt Disney

Yes because my fetish is sentences that end in a LOUD MONOTONE

>It's a "Trying to make a viral video" episode

>It's a 90's recton episode

A weak start? They only got worse as time went on
>Neutopia
>Yo Leelaleela
>Naturama
>Leela and the Genestalk

References don't age well, just like memes.
If 90% of your humour consists of memes, it won't age well, since people of the future will just watch an unfunny skit and ask what the big deal is.

I wish the creators of now would get that.

Creators of now generally DON'T use memes. So somebody gets it. But if you're hoping writers are going to take out anything relatable that is a product of our current day and age, keep hoping.

Off topic but I was hanging out with a cool as fuck Asian girl the other day, and the first thing I thought when I saw her was "she has freckles so she looks like Lucy Liu."

Don't take it for granted, but I remember hearing about a government sponsored manga about a young couple about to have kids.

It's a real threath for Japan, so it may be.

This. The show used to operate under the premise that 31st century people had very little knowledge about 'the stupid ages' and Fry was there to correct them, even though he usually gave them wrong info too.

>That's just a phonebooth
>What were they used for?
>In New York? Bathrooms

It really bugged me in the CC episodes when they'd reference something contemporary they shouldn't know about.

I will always remember you Fr- MEMORIES DELETED!

nice blog

The cost of raising children is so damn high, and Japanese kids are so damn smart, they actually actively try to avoid having kids to improve their individual success. Being a culture that values achievement above all else is a baby-killer.

>Implying Lucy Liu isn't more relevant than ever.

Would you?

>Brought to you by Mutual of Omicron
>And so, the endless cycle of life and death comes to an end. Why did they live? Why did they die? No reason.
Fuck you, Naturama was great

>Season 6
The have more than Sherlock

>Brough to you by Thompsons Teeth
>The only teeth stong enough to eat other teeth

I know it's not from that episode but I always liked the faux-advertising bits

Def-Con Owl Traps will always be in my heart.

...

Congratulations, you can count. Have a Watson for your troubles.

Fuck you Lucy Liu is forever.

So anons, if you could have a sex robot and make it look like anyone who would you make it/them resemble and what would you do with them?

Mary Elizabeth Winstead

We would go for a walk along the river in the snow then cuddle

I'd still fuck her

>TWO black guys in a grunge band

>That's just a phonebooth
>What were they used for?
>In New York? Bathrooms
But that's correct.

Damn she ugly.

Y2K actually almost happened in some banks.

It really wasn't

No one does it like molten boron!

One is Indian

No, that's Lou and Carl who are both black

>implying black people weren't into grunge

O-REN ISHI!!

WE HAVE UNFINISHED BUSINESS!!!

livestreaming was still pretty shitty back then, and pop ups still exist

That Tron Legacy reference is easily one of the worst for being so randomly out of place.

Not all entertainment should be timeless, though. It's totally fine for something to exist just for the here and now.

are you literally 12?

I really dislike the CC episodes. They felt like the opposite of what makes Futurama funny.

Only the critically retarded ones.

My stepdad had countless pounds of Hershey chocolate bars stored in a secret back room in our house in preparation for Y2K.

Yes, he was indeed an alcoholic.

>alcoholic
>hoarding chocolate

u wot m8

Personally I don't mind referential humour that much. Its a nice way to connect, reflect or even learn what the times were like back then. Also gets people to actually go out and research what they're watching, which can be pretty fun.

Lucy Liu looks like Voldermort's daughter these days...

The only real answer here is how many of these can I afford to run at the same time. For a start just imagine the exact same episode but replace Lucy Liu with Asa Akira.

So swap out Lucy Liu with Constance Wu.

This isn't the worst episode of the Simpsons

but holy shit, it's in the top five

Japan is no worse than, say, Germany

The primary killer of a person's early childbearing/siring years in the first world today is high cost of living and the relatively long period of time it takes to get self-sufficient even in the best circumstances

Which is why my life sucks

recovering alcoholics eat chocolate to cope, it's the alkaloids

user's dad was prepared for his booze supply to suddenly stop

Man, occasionally I'm reminded that Dancing Baby and Y2K were global socio-cultural phenomena, and it blows my mind.

It's kind of a shame, because there a number of good jokes in the script. If it wasn't a hideous abomination, it would be genuinely funny. Maybe a script for a different show.

mostly for the Photoshop stuff but yeah

unfortunately no, would be nice if it came up in Fractured But Whole

>main character is frozen in time during the 90s
>surprized when the show feels dated

yeah, its a no brainer. Its not like real women would miss me much anyways
Hell porn is already stealing most of that market anyways

That's just silly. You'd stock up on more booze, or at least yeast and sugar.

A lot of people. Napster actually is still around and just focused on being a music streaming platform these day.

I always found it kinda funny that despite being in the year 3000 they still had an old, really small tube TV.

Partially because flatscreens weren't really a thing till the mid 00s but I'm not sure if they ever changed that in the show.

jokes about Lars Ulrich immortalised Napster

Beer gooooood!
Grab asses baaaaaaad!

90's stereotypes dictate that any multi-racial band with more than one black guy is a ska band
