The Argonath - Isildur and Anarion, they were brothers. You'll have to go to the book wiki's, because for whatever reason, Jackson removed Anarion from the movie, and made him Elendil, Isildur's father.

Isildur and Anarion founded Gondor and ruled it together, when they arrived from the west, those statues are the northern border of Gondor.
