They made king crimson focus less on fighting the religious alien nuts and put more emphasis on finding and rescuing his digital girlfriend who at this point is more interested in destroying the galaxy due to a bad case of A.I corruption.

Everything of interest I can think of in Halo (story-wise) was done better by Marathon, the AIs in particular. Halo is kinda like the watered-down action movie to Marathon's science fiction novel. And I'm referring to the Bungie Halos here. The story under 343 is just retarded.
Halo 5 was great and has a great story (for the really low Halo standards), get a life you Xbro manchildren.

I feel like the biggest problem with Halo after 3 though I actually enjoyed Reach is that they're trying to make the story more serious and have more morally grey shit going on. Halo worked because it was humans fighting a massive alien invasion force with some vague deep lore about the forerunners. It was simple, not particularly deep but it worked. I mean, I know they just keep the franchise going because it's all microsoft has going for it, but it feels like they're over-writing it.
Karen Traviss was responsible for the deterioration of Arby and the Elites. And for the random hate for Halsey
Reed was the main writer of Spartan Ops, and the main writer of Halo 5.
So while he wasn't the one who created Palmer, he is the one who is responsible for her insufferable attitude and character.
Reed is also responsible for Halo 5 abandoning all the plot points of the last game, Locke and his team of power rangers, Blue Team's lack of characterization, and the whole evil robot uprising story they decided to go with
Adding a bit of depth can work with the setting. Take Eric Nylund's work for example

Was Halo 5 really bad in just the story, or gameplay too? Any of the novels past the Traviss shit worth reading? Is Halo 5 ever coming to PC? Did I hear there was a Halo Wars 2 now?
I feel the same way honestly. Even by the time Halo 4 came out I really couldn't bring myself to care, and I'm not really sure why. Maybe it's because Halo 3 wrapped up the war with the Covenant and I didn't really care about the continuing adventures of Master Chief.
He fucked the lore to the point where Halo 6 needs around 4 or 5 massive retcons just to have a coherent story.
I still love Halo but barely played 4 and didn't even touch 5. It's not like it would even be hard for me to do, I have a Bone like 3 feet away and could get the game super easy, but hearing about it totally sapped my will to play it. Sad but stuff like this just happens to franchises.
I've read that book. It's overrated, some good ideas but I found the prose to be rather clunky.

Why don't they get one of the people who write the halo novels to be the lead writer? I've never read them and I've been needing to but I only keep hearing good things from the people who do read the novels.
nah gameplay was great, the multiplayer is actually good and balanced for the first time in ages.
Also halo 5 kinda came to PC, you can play custom games and thats it, there aren't a ton of people playing but you can always find at least a few games.

Nah, humans are from the Milky Way. Earth is still their planet of origin. Forerunners just didn't own the entire galaxy, and hadn't met them yet.

The Halo novels aren't really good any more. Fall of REACH was the best one.
Because the last one Eric Nylund wrote wasn't all that great, and the setting isn't even close to how it was then. Now the UNSC are functionally the biggest faction in space, because the Elites are in a civil war. And the Prophets are all dead.
